Do the Witnesses Still Go Door to Door?

i have lived at my current address for approximately five years and i have not had any visits from the witnesses.

i don't really want any but here's the deal: i left "the truth" about fifteen years ago.

i wasn't disfellowshipped or anything and (since i moved to another state) it was a relatively clean break.

In the latter context of Luke10:7, how many "towns" (or "communities") have told JWs to stay away and yet they keep coming back? I remember going out in service with an elder who insisted on sneaking into a particular condo complex to knock on doors even though management told us to keep out. I hated that.

Edited to add: Back when I quit the JWs I'd talk religion a lot with my walking-encyclopedia friend, and one night at the bar (all too common for us back then) an "evangelical Catholic" overheard us talking and said he went door to door. Also Frank Toth, ex-longtime Bethelite, became pastor of a Church of God (Abrahamic Faith) and he told me his congregation would go door to door sometimes too.

while serving as an elder we had a sister who was moving to another congregation in conjunction with separating from her husband.. another brother and i had been working with them for many weeks and were asked to send a letter to the new congregation, commenting on the situation and scriptural validity of the separation.. the situation was that she claimed he was endangering her and cited one physical incident where she hid behind a door and playfully jumped out to scare him, he reacted by striking out with his arm and hit her in the shoulder.

she admitted he was very sorry about the incident, but she suspected he somewhat did it on purpose.

she also brought up several situations in there marriage of him not taking the lead and weird behavior.

It was the elders that decided that the differences between my wife and I were irreconcilable because I posed a "spiritual danger".

Same here. My JW wife did take their advice and leave me but she asked to come back 5 months later even though I insisted I would never be a JW again. Oh, and when she moved back in she then decided to inform me she had racked up 5 grand on her credit card.

I suspect that maybe a couple thousand JWs will actually read King's book, and a few hundred might be convinced of at least parts of it. Most JWs today I don't think are very concerned with prophecy and live in a dream-like "everything will be OK" state, trying not to think too hard about how terrible the tribulation and Armageddon are supposed to be. The 1/1/1989 Watchtower says that 3,592,654 JWs reported field service time in the 1988 Service Year, when the Revelation Climax book came out (the latest most graphic apocalyptic publication) so at least half the number of JWs today have come into the organization in the last 15 years, and likely they didn't come in because they were impressed with "the generation of 1914" or "Armageddon's right around the corner."

H2O is short for Hourglass2 Outpost. It was a JW-oriented discussion board that had its original intent on ways of reforming the organization. It came into existence in August of 1996 and soon became THE place to discuss JW topics. I joined it in January of 1997. The reform idea pretty much died by June of 1997 and H2O evolved into more of a debate board (e.g. creationists vs. evolutionists, trinitarians vs. unitarians, etc.). The forum admin "Rick" was a rather eclectic fellow and always had difficulty with his Forum Participation Policy and how he and his moderators would enforce it. Around April of 2001 Rick changed the board's format similar to this one's style, and that sort of killed the "feel" of the place, and many of its regulars left it and came here, leaving only a few behind (like JCanon). I honestly don't know what its status is now, or if it is still alive. I have almost every post made there from Aug. '96 to Mar/April '01 on CD-ROM thanks to Joe Malik who compiled it all and sent me copies.

I relayed this story a little while ago, verified by Randy Watters. The GB made a decision that at Bethel morning breakfast everyone had to wear at least a jacket and tie, if not a suit. Freddy didn't like the idea so for a whole week he wore a ratty old t-shirt that said WHERE IN THE HELL IS MCCOOK NEBRASKA?

Edited to add: bethel minute, the other book is "Apocalypse Delayed" by M. James Penton, the most comprehensive book on the history of the Watchtower movement in existence.

Also edited to say the elders and congregation did the same thing with my still-JW wife and we eventually got divorced too.

The last time my door was knocked by a JW was 4-5 months ago, and it was an attractive young lady by herself so I asked her why she was alone as I knew the Kingdom Ministry had said that "sisters" shouldn't work alone, then I saw a "brother" walking by himself on the sidewalk and I yelled out to him why was she working alone, isn't that unsafe? Isn't there at least an unwritten rule that a woman always should have a partner?

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Lo, your king comes to you; triumphant and victorious is he, humble and riding on an ass, on a colt the foal of an ass. (Zechariah 9:9) - RSV

Matthew misunderstands the passage and actually has Jesus riding on two animals:

Matthew 21:2,4,5,7 Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me. All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass. And brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon. - RSV
