Sounds like a series of spiritual trainwrecks. No wonder the guy wrote a book about it all.

Author Robert King
by pratt1 in.
there is a book advertised on this site title "jehovah himself has become king".. has anyone read the book?.
according to the authors bio he is an df elder.. any comments?

Cygnus
I know quite a lot about Robert, having corresponded with him recently in email and posted and replied to/with him thousands of times on H2O. What he says now is true, about himself anyway. He's an interesting character but nothing I'm getting too excited about anymore for my own reasons. I like his ideas, that is, he puts a lot of Watchtower exegesis to shame. He and Fred Franz would have had some great debates 40-50 years ago and had King been around then and had any power at Bethel at all, a lot of Witnessism and their understanding of the prophets and Revelation could be radically different. Who knows? In 100 years none of it will matter, though.

And the Word was with God
by Narkissos inno this is not meant to be another trinity thread.
rather another shamelessly speculative / philosophical one.
one good thing with the latter: they are usually much shorter.. so we often discuss how the logos was or wasn't "god/god/divine" etc.
-
Cygnus
The Psalm says, "By the word (Gr. LXX "logos") of Jehovah the heavens and earth were made."
It was not uncommon in Jewish thought that what resided in God's mind, or his purpose, became manifest as destiny allowed. Thus Paul speaks of the church being foreordained before the world was, and the Christian reward stored up in the heavens, etc.
With that in mind, and Tyndale's recognition that the pronoun for the logos is neuter, i.e. "the world was made by it", I can see an argument made that the Logos was not human until it became a human being, cf. Jn 1:14. Epecially considering that the Messiah or this logos was never described as already alive in the OT but was prophecied to be a man like Moses.
That's what CoG Abramahic Faith (Atlanta Bible College) and their prolific writer Anthony Buzzard teaches, as well as the Christadelphians for over a century, and the anabaptists had such ideas going well before that as I believe.

Can any JWs answered this question?
by Tyre inwhen an apostate(a) and jw having a conversation.. a : in genesis 1:26 with who was god speaking to ?
gen 1:26 and god went on to say: let us make man in our image, according to our likeness, and let them have in subjection the fish of the sea and the flying creatures of the heavens and the domestic animals and all the earth and every moving animal that is moving upon the earth.

What I'm interesting in is not particularly how someone else interprets those words of Jesus, but what Jesus himself really meant by what he said.
Oh, well I'm not your man then, sorry.

Rex, thanks for the apology. I've found that in the past few days my head hasn't been very clear so I might take a few days off and watch hockey. In fact I'm at friends' house right now and that's what we're gonna do for the rest of the night.

Rex, this is my last post for the day, so saith Simon and the restrictions put on me.
: : I''d need the eywitnesses to be independent of each other and carrying along no preferential presuppositions.
: WHEN has that ever been the case? Everyone has their own axioms.I'm not proficient at law, but I'm pretty sure some examples could be found.
: : Christians champion Paul's defense of himself when relating his conversion to the Roman authorities
: That is only the beginning, uninspired traditional accounts list hundreds of martyrs who say they saw the risen Lord and would not recant. Christians who had seen Jesus risen, the apostles and many of their disciples followed suit except for John, who escaped that death. People do not die for a lie and a sham unless they have been fully indoctrinated and not shown any opposing evidence. Chuck Colson gives an excellent analogy of this in his book, 'Born Again'. He was part of a conspiracy that caused President Nixon to resign. You had several men who knew of the conspiracy and could have contained it themselves but they turned on each other and sold each other out without ever having to worry about being killed. That's right, people have been willing to die for all sorts of crazy beleifs. Christians aren't/weren't the only ones.
: : but today he'd be laughed at and tossed into the looney bin. I never did quite get if he heard or if he saw Jesus (of his "glory") anyway.
: Your ignorance is absolutely overwhelming.Well, here's what the written word says:
- Acts 9:7 "And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man."
vs.
- Acts 22:9 "And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me."
OK it was Paul's men. Dude, I'm tired and have been really sick. I should have kept my trap shut.
: : edited to add since I'm out of posts for the day: The supposed eyewitnesses of Jesus who authored the gospels did a poor job getting their story straight. One has to wonder, with all the contradictions and different language (for instance, did Jesus literally say "Kingdom of Heaven" or "Kingdom of God"?) how the catholics (univeralists?) canonized them as Hoy Writ.
: Ignorance knows no bounds with you, Cygnus. I effectively debunked your alleged contradictions and I even sent you to sources that would enlighten you. Too bad you just don't want to investigate it for yourself. No, man, I have, believe me, I have. Special pleading won't make my opinions go away. But that's all they are, opinions, and sometimes I goof up, which is why I try not to call people names like "ignorant" but I do slip up some times. The last couple of days have been rough on my life, a lot on my mind and a lot to do for health and money problem. I should stay out of deep threads like this one for the time being,
- Acts 9:7 "And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man."

OK I should have used ' ' quotes and not " " quotes when I said:
OK well I think they defend their definition of immortality by what Jesus said, that such a person would have "life within himself".
*** Rbi8 John 6:52-56 ***
" 53 Accordingly Jesus said to them: "Most truly I say to YOU, Unless YOU eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, YOU have no life in yourselves. 54 He that feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has everlasting life, and I shall resurrect him at the last day; 55 for my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. 56 He that feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood remains in union with me, and I in union with him.
JWs since CT Russell's time have interpreted this passage to mean the anointed who partake of Jesus' flesh will have 'life in themselves.' They define that as meaning a self-generating life, having no external needs, relying on nothing and nobody for their life. That is what Paul meant when he described the resurrection of these person in this way:
*** Rbi8 1 Corinthians 15:53 *** 53 For this which is corruptible must put on incorruption, and this which is mortal must put on immortality. If I search the watchtower CD-ROM I am sure I can come up with their explanation better than I'm doing.

What silly rules did your congregation make up?
by weinermcgee inelders were famous for making up stupid rules with no bible base at all as an ego trip i guess, what were some of yours?
i am not talking about the stupid rules that we all had to follow, just the congregation specific silly ones.. 1. having to button your jacket while on stage (this was later changed due to all the elders having a beer gut).
2. suits only or no privledges.

What do you mean, dfed? In 1968 we had a 5 minute smoke break in the middle of every meeting.
I noticed "bathtub baptisms." One of the best memories I have of my dad is when he baptized a man and his wife in a bathtub and I was there to witness it. Must have been at least 25 years ago. Now all baptisms have to be done at assemblies, right? My mom got baptized around 1960 in Lake Erie, bet that was quite the chilling experience.
Oh, by the way defd, there was plenty of cursing going on, and some congos did worse than Bingo. I remember several times they'd suggest some sort of (totally unnecessary) remodeling project and they passed around slips of paper and you'd write down what you thought you could "contribute." Just absolute silliness. BINGO would have been more fun and would have raised more $.

I've never given this much thought. First song that popped into my head was an early Rush song, Fly By Night.
"FLY BY NIGHT"
Prologue:
"Airport scurry flurry faces
Parade of passers by
People going many places
With a smile or just a sigh
Waiting waiting pass the time
Another cigarette
Get in line - gate thirty-nine
The time is not here yet....."Why try? I know why
The feeling inside me says it's time I was gone
Clear head, new life ahead
I want to be king now not just one more pawnChorus:
Fly by night, away from here
Change my life again
Fly by night goodbye my dear
My ship isn't coming and I just can't pretendMoon rise, thoughtful eyes
Staring back at me from the window beside
No fright or hindsight
Leaving behind that empty feeling insideStart a new chapter
Find what I'm after
It's changing every day
The change of a season
Is enough of a reason
To want to get awayThe other part:
Quiet and pensive
My thoughts apprehensive
The hours drift away
Leaving my homeland
Playing a lone hand
My life begins todayLyrics By Neil Peart Music by Geddy Lee
Cool midi verson of this tune found at http://www.geocities.com/gregsebay/lyricsflybynight.html
