Question for a JW

not sure if there are any active jw's here.

i think i've seen a few floating around.

(i'm not talking about obvious lunatics like you know but an average jw) here's my question.. were all the bible writers prophets?

Vulnerable to criticism? Are you kidding me? Ever go to a JW chat room or visit a xtian site that discusses JWs? One of the first things criticizing JWs is their claim to be "prophets."

I would recommend you purchase Greg Stafford's book, "Defending JWs" and read what he has to say about propheteering as it applies to JWs.

As far as biblical support, well, most Bible prophets were wrong, or they misbehaved, or did something along the way to incur the wrath of the Almighty. JWs feel that they are no different. Of course, it appears to me that both the JWs and the Bible prophets were all basically just plain silly.

And, Naeblis, I will take you up on your offer some time when borders aren't so clogged up with security. Imagine if I told the border officer that I was going to Toronto to get really drunk with some dude I met on the internet.

The only real experience I have had with lesbians is that I have done quite a bit of work for several lesbian couples. Never seen a kid with them, though. However, every lesbian couple that I have been hired by have been by far the nicest, most understanding, easy to get along with clients I have had the pleasure to do business with.

Lesbians rule!

Okay, Naeblis (btw, I can't be your drinking partner tomorrow, sorry!).

The JW leadership does not claim inspiration on the same level as Bible writers. They claim to have possessed unique direction by means of God's holy spirit to deduce how prophecies and doctrines are to be understood. In a progressive sense, of course.

When King Saul 'acted like a prophet,' what do you suppose that meant? In what sense was Abraham, or Moses prophets? Those are clues to understanding what a prophet is, biblically, and how the Society applies that label to themselves.

The FDS does not initiate prophecy. It merely attempts to prayerfully comprehend existing prophecy. It also asks as spokespersons for God as ambassadors of the established Kingdom by proclaiming both Jehovah's judgments and denunciations, and his glad tidings of good will towards men who take sides with him and his righteousness.

If I see another "bringing this to the top" post I'm going to blow up a building.

Naeblis, Thomas Paine wrote that the original meaning of the term "prophet" in the biblical sense was a poet, or a songwriter. David was a prophet in this sense.

"Prophets" used hyperbole and language designed to induce emotional response. They probably never meant to have been taken seriously by anyone, in a literal sense.

Hope that doesn't help.

Taliban Says Bin Laden Innocent

the taliban leader, mullah mohammad omar said that they did not have the technology to train the pilots therefore osama bin laden could not have been involved.

okay, we know they trained here and osama has money to give these a-holes.

the taliban needs to be dealt with too.

I have had that suspicion all along. It must have been an 'inside job.' There's more to meet the eye here. That said, I do not discount Bin Laden's participation. But it's so unlikely that he and his netword alone could have pulled this off.

Get the point?

We can talk all we want about what JWs _should_ be doing and saying, but the fact is that JWs are a very small portion of all of the people who are interested in their own benefit. That's natural. I think it's unfair to criticize the JWs for their concern about their own.

Any Atheist Hijackers?

just a quick thought: would an atheist ever be a suicide hijacker/bomber?

i think not, because an atheist would not believe they would be in heaven/paradise, etc.

I disagree.

If a person believes enough in a certain ideology, he will do whatever it takes to further its progess. Belief in God or not.

I would probably give my life if the circumstances meant enough for me, and I don't expect any "reward" in heaven or whatever.

Religion should really have nothing to do with all of this. It's about preserving a way of life.

LET'S MAKE A LITTLE WAGER

perhaps you recall the instance in the bible where samson made a wager with the philistines that they couldnt guess his riddle.

as it turned out they wheedled the answer out of him by his fiancee, but the point is that they had a wager.

since the underlying assumption of the apostasy is that we are not living in the last days of this system of things, and that this world is not facing anything remotely like the biblical apocalypse, at least not any time soon, in the spirit of such antagonism, i would like to propose a similar wager.

I Said Goodbye

my father was rushed by ambulance from his rest home to st. marks hospital in salt lake city, utah friday, but i only just heard about it.

i received a call from the floor nurse and she told me he is not expected to live.

his lungs are filled fill up with fluid and are continuing to fill u with more fluid: he has pneumonia.

You have my empathy, old friend.

When my father dies (sooner than later), he will also be dying alone, as the JW community as a whole has forgotten him. I hope he has a funeral 'service' at the Kingdom Hall, and I'm ready for some if not several serious confrontations. My dad got totally screwed by WTS agents and he deserved much, much better than he got out of life.
