Lots of people believe it. Good people. Intelligent people. I once believed it. I wish I had something to replace it with but it seems nihilism and apathy are all that's left.

Who really believes this stuff?
by trevor inthis poor guy called adam (no surname) starts his life as the only human on the planet with no mother or father, brother or sisters or grandparents.
he wanders around unaware that he is naked and could do with a little support.
being first is good but it can get lonely.

Hey Jeff old friend. If I'm still afloat at 8:00 I'll watch it. I liked to go over to my girlfriend's Witness parents' house and turn on EWTN and watch it, that was a hoot. Now that we're engaged (we consider ourselves married) and she lives here she doesn't like religious programming but I'll see if I can horde the remote control for the second night in a row. ;)

Just being able to think for myself and make my own decisions on life instead of consulting old, poorly written books that presented themselves as the near-equvalent to the word of God.

Watchtower Aug. 15, 1968 says to ignore Jesus about tthe time of the end..
by AloneinOh intalking about 1975 and the push by the society got me to looking at some older quotes.
this one here really bugged me and still pisses me off when i read it.
in this instance they are telling you to forget about jesus and listen to the society.

I always wondered why the last sentence was included, italicizing knows. Any ideas as to what the point was to be getting across? I've read Greg Stafford's take on it in his book and wasn't very convincing.

Finish This Sentence....You Know you're a JW teenager If....

" and you shrink down in your seat in an effort to become invisible as everyone in the class raises their hand.

El oh El at this thread. At my high school reunions I keep desperately pleading for forgiveness for being such a freaking dickhead JW. Fortunately "worldly" people do forgive.
A couple more sentences from me.....
... if you dropped all your honors and AP classes and took 2 engine repair classes because the Bible encourages people to 'work with their hands.'
... if you really wanted to get baptized with that cute girl instead of the 60 year old overweight woman recently converted and never shuts up
... if you felt better than your teachers and felt justified for blowing off classes in school because they didn't know the Bible and were bird-food "real soon now"
... if you ever had a party with friends, the drinking got out of hand, and you ended up before a committee of elders, one of which kept asking what your recipe for a "boilermaker" was

Appealing my DF'ing, I just sent the letter
by AlmostAtheist inhey guys,.
this should be fun.
i just sent my jc a letter saying: (as best as i can remember).

I did that too. It was fun toying with them and telling them about the procedure they SHOULD follow as I knew it better than them, having studied up on the Flock book thanks to Kent's website. I had no intention of having the DFing reversed, I just went for fun. Bring a couple of goofy friends with you and tell the elders you want them to testify on your behalf. Or show up drunk and disorderly. Who cares. We only live once. Talk about a once-in-a-lifetime chance to mock people who think they are exercising "authority" over your life.

Does the averageJW really believe it is the truth?
by whatistruth ini ask this question because the average jw does not show true love though they are commanded to do so.
the average jw often confesses that the meetings are quite boring.
the average jw complains about almost everything within the org.

I think a lot of it boils down to friends and how well-liked you are. When I was a JW kid I had a few close friends but not many. When we grew up our wives and their families took precedence and we were never as close as we were when we were teenagers. Then you woulda start to feel the lack of love and a more corporate atmosphere from the brothers in the congregation. You start to ask yourself, why am I busting my butt for basically one invisible man in the sky who never talks back and seems to not give a rat's rear about anyone or anything except books and numbers? That's when you start to do some research and decide it's not worth living a lie for practically nothing in return.

I see a lot of people leaving, such as in Germany, Poland, Phillipines, Nigeria and Britain. And the real whopper was USA, with about 26,000 people leaving last year. Funny, we get a lot of JW chatters from Phillipines and Nigeria in the JW Yahoo room.

How rebellious did you get after leaving?
by JH inafter leaving a controlling sect, it?s normal to want to live ?freedom?.
what did you do to show that you were no longer under the influence of the watchtower?
did you grow a beard, start having sex with whoever, start drinking, start gambling?

Grew my hair really, really long. Grew a beard. Got an earring. Bought a shirt that read FREE BREATHALYZER TEST -- BLOW HERE with an arrow pointing to my crotch. Showed up at my judicial hearing looking like that.

Funny. Neither the elders nor anybody else bothered my baptised brother and sister when they quit going to meetings, celebrated all sorts of pagan stuff, and married into other faiths. Guess they just got lucky.
