What is an Amicus Brief
by 3acrewood inhi, waiting, and all others concerned about this amicus brief:.
just to set the record straight - i have been a legal secretary for over 20 years, and i assure you there is nothing shady about the society filing an amicus brief in regard to this swaggart thing.
an amicus brief is filed in cases in which the verdict could set a precedent that would or could have an adverse affect on other parties not involved in the suit (i.e., other religious organizations, corporations, etc.).

Tyre, how about doing your own research instead of pasting what's on some anti-JW website?

re chap. 44 p. 316 Revelation and You ***Jehovah, the King of eternity, now addresses readers of Revelation for the last time in the prophecy, saying: "Look! I am coming quickly, and the reward I give is with me, to render to each one as his work is. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end. Happy are those who wash their robes, that the authority to go to the trees of life may be theirs and that they may gain entrance into the city by its gates. Outside are the dogs and those who practice spiritism and the fornicators and the murderers and the idolaters and everyone liking and carrying on a lie."—Revelation 22:12-15 7 Once again, Jehovah God emphasizes his eternal sovereignty and the fact that what he first purposes he will at last perform. He is "coming quickly" to execute judgment and will reward those earnestly seeking him. (Hebrews 11:6)

re chap. 44 p. 319 Revelation and You ***15
Jesus now adds a final word of encouragement: "He that bears witness of these things says, ‘Yes; I am coming quickly.’" (Revelation 22:20a) Jesus is "the faithful and true witness." (Revelation 3:14) If he bears witness to the visions of Revelation, they must be true. Both he and Jehovah God himself repeatedly stress the fact that they are coming "quickly," or soon, Jesus here saying that for the fifth time. (Revelation 2:16; 3:11; 22:7, 12, 20) The "coming" is to execute judgment on the great harlot, the political "kings" and all others who oppose "the kingdom of our Lord [Jehovah] and of his Christ."—Revelation 11:15; 16:14, 16; 17:1, 12-14.How do those quotes prove that the WT "teaches that Jesus is Jehovah"?
And, are those the two Revelation Climax book quotes you refer to? Sorry but I don't feel like paging through the other Watchtower material to find whatever you're looking for. Maybe you could at least come up with a publications monthly date and better yet page #'s for those WT magazines, or books.

Shining One's Link To A Dishonest ICR Article
by AlanF inin the thread "the skeptic's worst nightmare" ( http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/10/96102/2.ashx ) shining one gave a link ( http://www.icr.org/index.php?module=articles&action=view&id=2464 ) to an icr (institute for creation research) artcle titled "evolution--impossible to embarass its believers" by the icr's founder henry morris.
why was the soft tissue preserved?
all it means is, "we don't accept what real scientists say.

Poor Alan. He probably spent 2-3 hours on that post to Rex merely for the benefit of lurkers and casual readers. 6 months from now it will be long forgotten and Rex/Shiny will still be offering up his grey matter on the altar of H. Morris and other YECs.
I should have given him a buzz and talked his ear off for those 2-3 hours instead.

What REALLY is Hell?
by defd inis it truely a firey place of torment as some religions teach?
or is it just the grave, as another religion teaches?
-
Cygnus
My old phychologist wouldn't shut up about this common saying:
Religion is for those afraid of going to Hell. Spirituality is for those who have been there.
I'm not a spiritual man in the common sense of the term. Or am I?

Hellrider, JWs have always believed the Word (Gr, LOGOS) was the prehuman angelic Jesus. And their interpretation of the creation account in John's prologue parallels Proverbs 8. Basically Jehovah created Jesus, then everything else was created 'by means of' him (or, "it" if you ask a Christadelphian). Lots of groups have their own ideas. Studying what they all believe about these passages is fun... for a while anyway.

Man Will Consume the Planet
by joelbear in.
man long ago left the natural order of things that keep the earth as a living habitat in balance and healthy.. he now manipulates the earth to make it bend to his wishes so that he can create paper (worthless profit), accumulate multiples of what he needs to survive and make himself as comfortable as he possibly can.. as the billions in the developing countries become more consumptive the world will eventually be used up.. that will be the true armageddon that mankind will face.

I think the earth, properly advanced, can handle 10 to 15 billion people, no problem. And I think science will copy what Star Trek called replicators, machines that could on command reproduce "stuph", even food that satisfies our palletes without the need to slaughter millions of non-humans sentients.
I used to espouse Ben Franklin's philosophy: "Always be a pessimist, that way you'll never be disappointed." Phooey on that now.

Thanks Jeff, old friend (I use that term a lot these days but it's always with much affection). I'll email you soon.
kls, I'm feeling better emotionally lately, although I have my worse days. Not to belittle you, but you likely know 5% of what I've been through. I can drive a psychotherapist batty in 20 minutes. But thank you very much for your kind words. :)
Edited to add: Oh Joel. I was up to 205 lbs. and you might have been into me then, but my cholesterol was 260 so I dropped 50 lbs. and got my cholesterol down to 140. Doc was amazed. Just changed my diet was all. Now that I'm skinny and shaved my head, I'm not bear-like at all, sorry. :( http://members.aol.com/cygnus97/pics/me81105.jpg
