Double life, anyone??

how many of you lead double lives while growing up (especially those who grew up jw)?

in the last few days, it seems that bothers me about my adolescence.

i had to be one person for my mother, while still trying to be myself.

I led a double life right through my teenage years as did my husband, thats why I was attracted to him I knew he was a naughty boy!

I still to this day keep alot of things to myself, I dont discuss what I do with my Mum as she is still in truth and it seems to offend her when I do. So I will make sure my kids dont need to sneak around and hide things(although im sure they still will) but I also live with alot of guilt about those years and I dont want my kids to ever feel as we did growing up in the organization that destroys your childhhood and suppresses normal teenage emotions.

Generation Change

i left the org slightly before the change in the "generation that was alive in 1914" thing was announced and wondered, what were peoples in the congregations reactions after this was announced and did it you notice people falling away because of it?

has it had a damaging effect?

My husband always said if they changed their minds on the generation he knew it wouldnt be the truth. I remember well old sisters crying because they really wanted to survive armageddon, they knew I think that they would probably die.

I dont remember many leaving over it but you could feel the change amongst the bros & sis. I think thats when alot more became depressed and downhearted because with the generation view you knew it would come in your lifetime.But with the knew change alot were left wandering. My husband knew then it was no longer the truth although it took us another few years to finally leave,we kept thinking it would get better!

What made you lose your joy in serving Jehovah?

we all started off as happy witnesses, except for those dragged into this religion by force as kids.. in my case, i found that there were way too many meetings.

then seeing the new system being constantly pushed back, and finally when i saw a lack of true love in the congregation.

and when they hinted that probably there wouldn't be any sex and marriage for the resurrected ones.

I never felt like I could do enough to please Jehovah. I remember the last DA I went to and walking away feeling very depressed. It was do more service, dont miss meetings, more, more, more you never felt like you could do enough! So one becomes overwhelmed and exhausted.

My mum said to me that the truth isnt a burden and its not hard so the only ones having trouble with these things are the ones who dont really want to do it anyway.But ive seen many sisters in my age group in tears with little children, husbands ms or elders just trying to keep up with it all and getting totally worn out. Where is the joy in serving God when you are just trying to keep up appearances

4 years ago today...

my son was born.

now for the first time, i get to have a birthday party for him, without feeling guilty about it.

Which Church do I go to now?

i personally feel no particular need for institutionalised religion, but recognise it is a benefit to many people.

however i am constantly asked, "where do i go to now?

what is the best answer to give someone?

I have had so many interesting discussions with people now I have left the truth then when I was in. I love hearing about different beliefs and what makes people tick My children attended the BAHAI faith scripture at our local school and found it very informative!

I think the idea is not to jump into anything, research everything and make up your own mind. I am personally not interested at all in joining another religion but I feel the need to address my spiritual side; I do this by lots of reading(especially on this site)!

My Wife is pregnant, wow!

the day i was told i was going to be d/f i my wife also did a test and found out she is pregnant.

yesterday she went to the doctor and she is already 9 weeks.

i can't think of a better way to move on and create a new and wonderful life.. i am 36, going on 21, and have a 19 yo step son and 13 yo step daughter that i love dearly.

Congrats to you both! At least you can raise your child from birth the way you both see fit without a religion telling you the way it should be done.

When I think of all the times I use to make my kids sit at long meetings, on cold winter nights when they should have been in bed like normal kids, I could just cry.

Enjoy the good times ahead!

Will we ever fit in?

this has probably by far the hardest adjustment my husband and myself have had to make.

sometimes we feel like we just dont really belong anywhere.

sometimes we still act and think like jw s even though we are getting together a nice network of new friends.. my question is, does it get easier with time to feel like you belong somewhere?.

I guess with being a witness for so long it may just take time to fell like we fit in. Please let me know of your own experiences as sometimes it is tempting to just go back and be part of something, although I know we never will.

it asks many drone-like thought-provoking questions as i've listed below.

incredible that these guys claim to be the sole ownership of what is absolute "truth", yet change doctrines like i change lipsticks.

The generation changing from 1914 was talked about at our district assemblya bout 1 year before the announced it and I remember thinking"what is this talk about", it was very confusing.

When the Wtachtower article came out as a 2 study article I still remember older jw crying at th kh, obviously because they knew they would probably die now. Usually some talk has been given first before they drop the bombshell announcement in the WT article. Has interesting talks been given at assemblies of late? I wouldnt know beacuse my Mum doesnt reveal or discuss spiritual matters with me anymore!

How Many Of You?

how many of you, when you were an active and zealous jw (assuming you were), were motivated by the paradise idea?

i was basically born in, so i wasn't drawn to the religion, it just was.. the whole idea of the paradise never really exicted me though.

i followed the religion and did what i did because i just believed it was the right thing to do and not so i could obtain the carrot on the end of the string.. how many of you felt the same way?

The paradise is still something my 11yr old cries about at night. She thinks we arent going to make it to paradise because we stopped going to meetings, its heartbreaking to try and explain. To us it is just a big carrot they dangle in front of your eyes to keep you going and that worked for alot of years until you see past the carrot.
