My family got internet access in 1998 and I must say that the internet helped my exodus along. But, I think what really did it for me was the fact that my mother would have books lying around the house like Crisis of Conscience. She would also have computer printouts about ex-jw's and the history of jw's. She would tell me not to read them because she was afraid that it would “stumble” me, but of course as soon as she left for work I would read as much as I could.

"keep doing this in remembrance of me"
by totalee ini have re-posted this thread on the advice of another site member.
why is it ok to celebrate a wedding anniversary but not a birthday?
i can understand christmas, easter, halloween and valentines day but birthdays, thanksgiving, mother's day and father's day don't have religious or murderous origins.

Why is it OK to celebrate a wedding anniversary but not a birthday? I can understand Christmas, Easter, Halloween and Valentines day but birthdays, thanksgiving, mother's day and father's day don't have religious or murderous origins. Also, at the last supper, Jesus told his disciples to "keep doing this in remembrance of me". If Jesus set the example, why is it that all JW's do not partake? I understand that JW's believe that only the 144,000 are to partake of the bread and wine, but did not Jesus die so that all of mankind would be saved? I never understood the point of attending the memorial service just to touch a plate and cup. And while I am thinking about it, are any of the 144,000 members of the Governing Body? And, who are the faithful and discrete slave?
Please clarify this for me.
I am sorry for all of the questions; I just have a lot to get off my chest.

The Holy Scriptures vs. The Bible
by totalee incould someone tell me why the jw bible is called the new world translation of the holy scriptures and not the new world translation of the holy bible?
and why do jw's have so many publications to accompany the bible?
if the bible is inspired by god, shouldn't the bible be enough?

Could someone tell me why the JW Bible is called the new world translation of the Holy Scriptures and not the new world translation of the holy Bible? And why do JW's have so many publications to accompany the Bible? If the Bible is inspired by God, shouldn't the Bible be enough? I say that because I grew up attending the Kingdom Hall and I have noticed that every couple of years a new publication is produced. As the years have gone by I see that much of the information goes back and forth on different topics and contradicts itself. When I ask why publications are produced that contradicts publications that were produced 30 years ago, I am told that the light has gotten brighter.
I believe that since the Bible has the same information in it now as it did 2,000 years ago and the light never needed to become brighter, Why not just use the Bible to teach the people.
