Jehovah's Witnesses Are Awaiting Persecution!
by minimus inif jws "suffer" persecution it will make them feel as if they are fulfilling bible prophecy.
they like thinking and believing that they are chosen to be abused and persecuted.
if any political upheavals occur, they look at it as a sign to say that the end is near.

Puleeeze...remember all the assemblies and literature? About the poor brother who walked 5 miles through swamps with alligators to get to 3 meetings a week plus field service. Or the poor sister who has 10 kids and an opposing husband who still managed to get her kids in dress clothes and to the meetings. My aunt is one of those who loves to savor in her misery and in conversation and parts she had at meetings and assemblies where she gave her personal experience, and she'd always end up in tears..(she pioneered and had health problems, but it wasn't that bad..girl, you never worked a day in your life, your husband did)...anyway it'd get to the point of ad nauseam.
Oddly, it's sort of a Jewish thing...God's chosen people who are persecuted for his glory.
If I was God, I'd want my adherents to be happy and having a good time partying. No 40 years wandering the wilderness or 5 meetings a week and 10 hours a month peddeling magazines for my worshipers!
Just my 2 cents

What is Apostasy ?
by Acurardx2007 ini have researched the word apostasy, and it makes the statement about one changing beliefs and speaking out against one's current religion.
as a matter of fact at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/apostasy raymond franz is noted as an apostate of christianity.
however my question is, is it apostasy when it is the truth for instance the society was part of the un?

I've seen several definitions:
A London based band
A rare form of leprosy found in sub-saharan Africa and parts of East Asia that can be cured but leaves pock like marks on the skin.
Protestant religions and modern fundamentalist religions (like JWs)

When you're a JW, knocking on people's doors doesn't seem rude it was our duty and command. In reality, it's soliciting and we were uninvited. The worst aspects of it was when we insisted on knocking on doors bright and early on holidays where people were busy hosting family and friends and/or making preparations or just sleeping in.
I know I tend to blab but this reminds me of my childhood. My mother is Sister Huggy and has a open door policy. JW friends and relatives and non-JW relatives always feel free to stop by any time of day or night uninvited (with some of the JWs, they always seemed to pop in around 4:30 or so, just in time for dinner). This always became a contentious issue for my parents because my Dad is intensely private and resented the intrusions.
Now, my Dad is battling cancer and I visited my parents for a week last month for the first time in a few years (I was banned previously). One weekday morning about 10:00 a.m. a car load of JWs drove up to "visit my Dad." Due to a territory line redux my parents live in the territory of a neighboring congregation and so it was people from that one. My Dad had just awaken and we were giving him his medicines and trying to get him to eat something. My mother was in her robe. They both expressed disdain at the thought of hosting guests at that time and my Dad remarked, "oh gees, it's Brother so and so who never leaves". I volunteered to ask them to come back, went to the door and politely explained to them it was not a good time and if they could come back when they were done with field service. The look on their faces was absolutely priceless and they could hardly manage a response....I was relishing the moment entirely. I don't think they knew me and I definitely didn't remember them. They did come back around noon. My Mom felt guilty about making them come back at a more convenient time and was trying to be even more gracious...BARF. Also, that Saturday my cousin and his wife stopped in during "field service" with his 3 screaming kids...I mean they screamed the whole time and stayed over 30 mins. When they came in the door I said loudly, "Mom it's not a good time since we just got Dad to sit down to eat" (we had been fighting with him all morning to eat).
The WTBTS fights fiercely for their right to solicited door to door. It's not really polite, but then again it's akin to political canvassing, telemarketing and spam, one of life's little annoyances.

As an Ex-JW what have you learned?
by KW13 in.
i have had to mature quickly after leaving the witnesses i was almost 'lost' and spent sometime being stupid.. i have learnt that forcing religion on to people is wrong, if they don't see something themselves then its not true or honest.
they need to decide everything themselves.. parents are also in a position where they need to be careful, they take their child to a religion that affects the child in so many ways, it ruined my childhood and its now a rod for my mums back..

Since I was raised a JW, the last 12 years or so I've been out life has been a rollercoaster ride. However, I've learned that that is what life is about. It's not so neat and tidy as being a good JW person while attending and participating 5 meetings a week and getting 10 hours a month in field service and auxiliary pioneering every April. While that kind of lifestyle provides stability and security for some (well 6 million people I guess), it's not the lifestyle I want. Over-simplifying the entire nature of the JW religion, I would say that JW life is sort of like watching black and white tv. I want to watch color.
With that said, listed below are the things about life I've learned thus far (off the top of my head). They are not constant and unchangeable and I may change my mind tomorrow about some things, but that's what life is about:
Vodka martinis are much tastier with a twist rather than with olives
Fornication is wonderfully fulfilling and hot...just be safe and responsible, dammit
I get much more done when I take back my Tuesdays and Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings (sleeping in on Sundays is nearly orgasmic - plus I'm a much nicer person during the week)
The world is full of good things and bad things, stop harping on the bad things and try to make what's bad better
College Education is a Good Thing, it changes you and makes you a better and complete person
We are in control of our own lives and destinies (except for death of course), we have the power to make life wonderful or miserable
The existence of an omniscient God who's going to destroy the world is highly suspect
The Bible is primarily fiction but has some historical value
Religion is a medium to regulate behavior of the masses
Religion is a medium to provide stability and purpose for the masses (unfortunately most never become self-actualized individuals)

Although most of us including myself would rather not waste precious time reading your responses, let alone responding to them, it might help to get your point across if you could spell. Here's some advice...buy a dictionary and read it, then take the time to painstakingly check each word before you hit the "submit post" button. Just like having good hygiene and a sense of style are important attributes for one socially, in the cyber world, good spelling is just as important......UTHERWIZE YU SOWND AND SEAM VERE STOOPID.
Oh and one more thing, what is your opinion about Lot raping his daughters as described in the Bible?

Joel Bear do I know you? Were you at the ACB conferences in New Orleans in 2002 or 2003? I was there, this is Jesse by the way.
I'd say move up to NYC and be a Yankee for a while but rent is so goddam expensive. We have an active ACB group here too.

I should mention that I'm blond.
Q. Why did the Blond lose her job at the M&M factory?
A. Because she kept throwing out the Ws.
Q. What do you call three Blonds standing in a row?
A. Wind tunnel
Q. What do you call a Brunette between two Blonds?
A. An interpreter
Here's a Monica Lewinsky joke:
Monica went to her dry cleaner to drop off a soiled dress. She had a stain on the dress and was trying to show the hard of hearing Asian man at the counter where the stain was located. He cupped his hand to his ear and said "Come again?" Monica replied, "No it's mustard" -

Thanks for sharing and thanks for the B-day greetings. Yeah the big 35...people tell me I look like I'm in my twenties..don't know how since I smoke drink socially but it may catchup with me someday (plan to quit smoking after this week), occasionally I get carded which is cool. I was raised in the Northwest, but I moved out to New Jersey when I was 19 (after pioneering a year) and became involved in a NJ congregation for 3 years or so.
I definitely encouarge everyone to attend college if they haven't already. The whole world opens up to you. It's so worth it. I did community college part time which took me 4 years, I just want to get my BA asap so that's why I want to go full time next semester.
Has anyone found it difficult to read and form opinions? Having been raised a Witness, studying publications where each paragraph is written for a specific answer and the questions are provided for you. I still find it difficult to read critically. I tend to agree with the author without really forming my own opinion which is a challenge when you have to write about what you have read...just curious.
In all fairness my mother who is talking to me now, is trying. She's from a rural area where few people attend college and was raised a JW so the college thing is very foreign to her. She's learning the terminology and requirements, etc...so she's starting to ask questions, but I often have to prompt her. Also my JW witness brother who's older than me just started going to a community college last semester after realizing that he can't make a decent living going from job to job, many times working for JW's who never pay health or retirement benefits. Anyway, she's more accepting since he's going.
Thanks again,

Thanks Juni,
Sometimes I need moral support or a pat on the back from others (okay so I'm a bit needy..LOL). My parents, bless their hearts, as 2nd generation Witnesses haven't a clue about college or how valuable an education can be. They have never said they are proud of my scholastic accomplishments and never inquire about what I'm studying, why I'm studying this or that and what I plan to do with my education. I know that they don't understand it really so I don't really blame them.
Anyway I'm undeclared right now but I'm looking at the Comparative Literature and Society major at my school (it's a fairly new major), which is a combination of English and Sociology. I'm also very interested in Political Science, Law and Marine Biology. My aspirations including being a writer, journalist and human rights and environmental activist. Anyway I don't have to declare until the end of this semester but I want to make the right decision.
Congratualions to all you who finished school or who are attending now...good for you!!!! Any advice on deciding what to do with ones life??? lol
