I suggest that vitriolic criticisms of ANY translation derive from a faulty conception of linguistics. NO stand alone translation of any language, on any topic, can capture the full meaning and intent of the original. Cultural, circumstantial and historical undercurrents have impact that cannot be captured merely by etymological analysis.
And sometimes there is no single, unequivocal "right or wrong" translation, as is (I believe) the case with John 1:1.

Isn't it incredible that, on the one hand, the WTS berates the "wise ones" of this world as unspiritual self-centered fools, but then turns right around and proudly displays any shred of academic approval they can pry from scholars?

i just saw this movie john q. with denzel washington, and it is a great movie.
the subject is about health care or lack of,,, and the need for organ donations.
i have always felt strongly about this and this movie really made me think about doing something instead of just saying it.

from this its saying its some future event when a christian receives the holy spirit.. my new english bible says.
who has placed his mark of ownership upon us, and who has given us the holy spirit in our hearts as the guarantee of all that he has in store for us.
The WTS applies this verse to the "anointed." They are the only ones who truly have the Holy Spirit. Those of us "other sheep" only got a ricochet of spirit from the "anointed," but actually, only from the "Governing Body" of the "anointed" of the "faithful and discreet slave," but then actually only from the type A members of the GB. And we know all this because they told us so.
They say that a Christian receives HS (in the sense of 1 Cor 1:22) at the moment of "anointing" to the heavenly hope, never before. Less than 9,000 of over 6,000,000 JWs profess to have the heavenly hope. A clear disconnect.
Does this make any sense? If so, please consult your physician and get appropriate medication.

One thing about all the "stuff" Katie brought to our home...lots and lots of pics of her family (3 sons, 2 daughters). I've NEVER had an extended family to speak of, and it's been 25 years since I've even seen my folks' 35mm slides. I "met" my paternal grandmother when I was 2, and met my Dad's sister 15 years ago when she moved to Portland (suffering from cancer, and died). My younger brother died 20 years ago (also from cancer), and my youngest brother's fam are all active dubs. Other than that, I've never even talked to any of my nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc. Never been all that close to my Dad, though Mom has always been there for me (bless them both).
It's a totally new dimension of life for me to have such familial connections. One of the reasons that life is GOOD!
