Pope: WTPH?
Ya got me here...what does that stand for?
Craig (of the I worked at Intel long enough, I thought I knew every acronym in the book class)
it is clear that the evolutionist is so tied to his religion that he cannot think objectively - so here i issue a challenge of a general nature.
let us develop a focussed discussion in which we agree ahead of time which sub-topic of this noxious subject we address first.. i will take the liberty of suggesting the following:.
given the almost inevitable and immediate degeneration that debates about creation and evolution seem to descend into, how about we address the sociological aspects first - to clear the ground, as it were: how would you feel (whether creationist or apostate evolutionist dog) if incontravertible evidence emerged that the "other" side was actually right?

the other night i was upset and decided to pray to god.
i was outside looking at the stars and wondering if i was talking to myself or if he is really out there somewhere.. as i prayed i didnt know who to address, i have said jehovah, jesus, father, who ever is out there please hear me.
i don' t mean to be disrespectful in saying it that way , but just confused.. many of you know we havent been to a meeting in over a year .
When I pray (now not all that often) I pray to Jesus. So far as I know, he was a human, and knows us better than anybody. I want to talk to someone who has been there, done that.
Hell, for all I know, I'm praying to myself!
So what...it makes me feel better.

Know_You: I need your help!!!!
Please provide me with some sapient soliloquy for my stunning starlight Katie. Heavy on the phantasmically phenomenal pleasures of pheromonal physiology, please
PS: As far as evolution is concerned...we are all simply quantum mechanical consequences of maximally symmetric spaces, with a few complex variable functions thrown in for good measure (nothing like i to screw up the works, eh?)

in my current life i know a lot of people who live together.
some of them might have done this because they do not like marriage, and others have done this as a step towards getting married.
in all, in my post-witness life i find that i have no problem with either view.
kenpo: You keep on posting such meaningful topics, pretty soon you'll own this board!
"We just needed to find "us" first before we realize we knew "them""
Only took me 50 years to get to this point, and still on-a-cruse (now with first mate Katie )
Dede: "it was like we were destined to find each other in someway"
Same here. Meeting Katie was a bolt-out-of-the-clear-blue-sky.
shera: "I'm a 50-50 gal"
It shouldn't be any other way, except perhaps 100-100 guy/gal.
Farkel: "I learned all of this after I royally fucked up my own dub marriage."
Same here. I do, and yet don't, regret the foolish mistakes I made with my 2 JW wives. They were as kind and loving as they could be, and so was I. Life goes on.
animal & ballistic: Your experiences with alcohol are very much like my own, and one of the reasons that my first 2 marriages were such a struggle. I joined AA, and was clean and sober for almost 6 years. The addictive mentality continued, though, because I was still trying to be a JW. Now I'm sober, even though I still drink.
footprints: "Life is as good as you are willing to let it be, it's up to you."
So easy to say, so hard to do!
orangefatcat: "But all is wonderful now and that is all that matters."
DITTO, DITTO, DITTO!!!!
yumbyy: "We are truly soul mates. I am glad every day that we are married. I can say with no reservations that my husband is one of the greatest souls of this planet. I'm all for love at first sight."
"Soul mates" is a term I never used, or felt, until I met Katie (bikerchic). I am now a true believer. Such things do happen, even to such hapless souls as me.

kenpo: Thank you for this topic. It touches my heart.

i've been thinking a lot recently about the interaction between people in the exjw community and it seem to me that the "jw experience" (sounds like a theme park ride doesn't it?
) polarises behavior somewhat between two extremes:.
we know in the jw scheme of things that friendships are very 'superficial'.
So much sharing of personal experiences and great perspectives here! I can only add a couple small comments:
Pick it up once, look at it, decide if it's worth keeping...
If not, throw it away and don't look back;
If it is, then cherish it for it's value.
For me: Socially retarded? Yes. Socially readjusting? ABSOLUTELY!!!

i havent posted much here, but ive read a lot for about six months now.
although most everyone here appears to have had some degree of affiliation with the jw organization, the individual posters seem to be from pretty diverse backgrounds.
im really curious about something.
Raised in it here too (0-48) [Mulan, beat ya by 2 years hahaha ]
What sold me on it, after the first 20 years, was to be with my family, and thinking that somehow the WTS would change.

when i was a jw kid, one of the ways we amused ourselves at assemblies, conventions, and the local kh was to play "spot the celebrity".
fortunately for us, the joyful throngs of jehovah's people were brimming with celebrity look-alikes, so we were able to enjoy many upbuilding sessions of "spot the celebrity".
here are some celebrities i have spotted on jwd.
OK, Lilacs, here ya go:
And if anyone says I look like Homer Simpson...well, ya better watch out, Katie will GETCHA!!!
LOL
i was very sure that i was, for several years (in the 80's).
never ate/drank the emblems.
don't feel that way now at all.. i knew a few others my age that had a similar experience.. fantasy?.
wildfire: "if only i could get upon stage of an assembly and tell THE REAL TRUTH.....OF WHAT I WENT THRU AND AM STILL GOING THRU"
Well, you have a stage here, and sharing your pain is why you can say:
"there i feel much better now hahahaha"
That's what this forum is all about! Keep coming back

we all know that mt.
24:45 is misapplied regarding the faithful and discreet slave.
many are aware too, of the misapplication of the"house-to-house" or door-to-door ministry.
I'm struggling a bit with the term "misapplied."
So much of what I/we find in WTS as misapplication is really a matter of the hermeneutic methodology of choice. For example, the "prophetic" passages can be interpreted from so many different perspectives: typological, preterist, historicist, futurist, idealist, premillenial, postmillenial, amillenial, pretribulationist, midtribulationist, posttribulationist, dispensational...
I tend to look at "misapplication" in terms of overt matters like mistranslation and historical/chronological misrepresentation, of which there have been hundreds of examples provided on this board.

being just ignorant former dub i just decided to give our children names and that was it.
i admit i had to twist her (never jw) arm a bit, but no problem (also we did not celebrate xmas.).
a while ago i saw mention about baby shower and (as a native finn) i had no idea what was the meaning of the words.
BluesBrothers and blondie: Thanks for the quotes...I'd forgotten how much "advice" the WTS "provided" for us; just gets to be an osmosis thing after a while.
IS THERE NO SUBJECT ON THIS PLANET ABOUT WHICH THE SOCIETY FEELS UNQUALIFIED TO COMMENT?????
