  Contacting the "other side"

  i find it very interesting that the bible and mythology are very close, when speaking about god.

  also the statement made by god in the bible to worship no other god but him, in effect saying that there are others gods.

  has anyone actually looked into the occult, for lack of a better word, and actually made contact with an entity?

  Even as JW, I was inexorably fascinated with the occult. I had my share of psychic experiences early on as a child but those were quickly extinguished (or buried in dreamwork) by my mother's insistence that what I was experiencing was undoubtedly related to some recenlty purchased garage sale item. There would be burnings, incantations (er, I mean supplications) to Jehovah to expunge.

  Now, I do work with alternate "realities". I would encourage anyone interested in the occult to study it (you know when you're being called). If it scares you, then you probably are not being called or not ready to engage. It also, imo, requires a more mature (not to be insulting) relationship with the Universe/god/gods. "They" do not require or respect groveling or fear of any sort. You will attract darker spiritual energies if you approach the veil with a fearful, grovelly energy. It is just like meeting other beings on this plane. You will attract what you put out. Sometimes that's good and sometimes that is bad.

  I'm actually a bit surprised at some of my results. Whenever I do go to a "Church" it is either UU or Church of Religious Science. And there was no vestige of JW in me left???

  Not surprised at the Orthodox and Reform Judaism bit.

  Meeting a poster

  i want to tell everyone what a joy it was to meet dantheman over the weekend.. i have never felt more comfortable with who i am.

  there certainly is an unspoken understanding amongst people that have come away from the jw experiance.

  in particular i think we find it difficult to be mean and judgemental to each other.. an unconditional love that we all crave.

  Well, then the stars are definitely in line for me this month. This weekend, I have the privilege of meeting fellow Denverites/Coloradans at a get together to be followed by a hike (looking forward to both!). And then at the end of this month, I am going to Dallas to meet fellow sojourners. I cannot wait. For so long now, I have been running from my past, trying to block out the fact that I was indeed raised as and lived as one of Jehovah's Witnesses...like I was trying to scorch the very earth from which I issued forth from. I would not even tell the people closest to me that I was once a Jehovah's Witness. I am getting so much better at that now. I'm actually beginning to know that it was not all negative--in that while I would never ever go back, it very much influenced who I am today.

  So, I am looking forward to meeting anyone I can who shares my past.

  I am sure I've held to at least some of the doctrines/teachings deep down inside, but right now I cannot think of any. I suppose that all holidays are pagan, but I see that as nothing but positive. That Christianity has a lot of pagan influences (again, I do not see this as a negative).

  I hold a lot of the "cultural" aspects of being raised as a JW. I was actually discussing this with a friend the other evening. It was not all negative. I learned to be a good, traditional wife (although that hasn't quite worked out so well for me) but I can honestly say, I was respectful, dutiful, and hardly ever questioned his "authority". Then again, maybe this was not a positive, I don't know.

  Though I was never df'd (technically, I'm still a witness--now isn't that a laugh!). But I would never go back. When I walked out of my last meeting, I was through.

  I have thought about going to a meeting in my old hall when I revisit Texas. Let's see, what to wear?? Should I wear my garnet centered pentagram? Or my triple Goddess motiff?

  What keeps you from killing yourself?

  every once in a while, the whole "futility of life" thing washes over me and something inside of me mentions the suicide option.

  not that it's ever seriously considered, but one of the low-level accounting-types in my head quietly sends around a "worst-case scenario" memo that everyone reads, then dismisses.. after all, things always perk up.

  "but," reminds the pessimistic little guy that should've been fired years ago, "they always go back down, too.

  Well, it's hard to beat Mango as a reason to live (then again, there is Mr. Peepers)

  

  Sorry for hi-jacking a bit (couldn't resist).

  Only as a JW, did I ever have thoughts and actually tried one time to harm myself. I cannot even imagine that space now~it's like I'm a different person. My children, of course, keep me from even having those thoughts. But it's more than just "not hanging myself from the rafters", it's an actual verve for life even with its trials and tribulations.

  It's anticipation for each new day~you just literally never know what or WHO is going to wash ashore tomorrow; some message in a bottle to borrow from the Police:

  Walked out this morning, dont believe what I saw
  Hundred billion bottles washed up on the shore
  Seems I'm not alone at being alone
  Hundred billion castaways, looking for a home

  The soft touch of a beloved (or just the anticipation of this) can keep one going for miles.

  Hang in there, hon. I mean, you just never know how the Universe will unfold if you just expect good things.
