!, what a god- dam excellent site.
i left the jws 7 years ago and still have a sister in there.. my mother has also now left and as a result has been banned from seeing her grandchildren by my sister, yet her father inlaw a jw and convicted peodophile ( he repented so its all ok now!!!
) can have unrestricted access because he's part of jehovahs wonderfull organization.
ELHOIM, hello and welcome. Consider yourself amongst friends, real friends, not the conditional crap you saw in the Kingdumb Hells.
I am one of the more fortunate ones, not having any family that was also a JW, other than my now exwife and her brood. Their choice, so no big loss for me. I hope your sister wakes up and sees what she is losing out, as well as her kids, by shunning, which is no more than emotional blackmail to keep the rank and file in line.
I look forward to hearing more of your story and what you contribute.

did anyone watch dateline last night?
the expose' on pastor hinn was exactly what i would have expected.
mike
Out of all the Televangelists that are out there harping for our money, Benny Hinn is tops for the phoniest on my list. Next would be Robert Tilton.
Just like the line from the Hank Williams Jr. song a few years back, the American Dream, "they say send your money to the lord, but give you their address."

life without tobasco.................could you go on?????
mac, of the "i think not" class .
holy shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
Isn't the stopping of using tabasco still considered grounds for disfellowshipping?
I must admit, though, that I don't always use tabasco. Sometimes, I resort to liberal doses of cayenne pepper, just enough to wake up the taste buds

like the movie of that title, we also were soldiers.
we were soldiers serving a religion.
like the vietnam war soldiers many of us suffered and some of us paid the ultimate price.
IW, as a veteran of both fronts, I applaud your post. The analogy and comparison is remarkable, one I had not made before. Thank you.

hi all, my name is eric, i'm 22 years old i live in kansas, and i am the new guy on the forum.
just looking to meet some people who, like myself, have decided that being one of jehovah's witnesses was not for them.
i stopped going about 1 1/2 years ago and have been feeling quite alone.
Hello and welcome, new guy. Not to worry, though, you won't always be the new guy. Always good to see new faces come in.

the other day i was on the computer and i moved some files on jws into documents as i was in a hurry, didn't think anymore of it.. my grandsons came over who are jws and joined my son on the computer,my son went into documents and my grandsons saw the files and asked him why i had them, of course my son didn't know quite what to say and he didn't tell me until after they had gone home.
i am worried that they may tell their mum and dad what they saw.
if my son asks me why i have these files what should i say because i need to be careful.my family is everything to me especially my grandchildren.. qca1
I would be semi honest. No need to lie, but no need to go into great detail just yet. Just say you were doing some personal research and ran across somethings interesting and wanted to be able to read them later. You could also say you forgot you had them, if you feel like it. If confronted, just say you wanted to see what was being said to formulate a defense, if the need arise. Who knows, maybe your son also has questions that he would like answers to, only time will tell.

it has become apparent to me, through many of your stories that jw's seem to have a hard time staying with their spouses who leave the borg.
i was wondering if this is just a case by case thing or are they in fact encouraged to leave spouses who no longer believes.
it seems strange that they would encourage that seeing as how we are instructed to stay in marriages even with a non-believer if they are happy to stay in the marriage.
Disfellowshipping is not an attack on marriage! The marriage is "attacked" by the unfaithful partner who commited fornication and got difellowshipped and therefore freed their spouse which is the ONLY grounds for divorce in jehovah's eyes!
Is that so? I am an exJW, disassociated because I became very disillussioned with the whole mess. I was married to a JW at the time and am now divorced. She was encouraged to shun me in every way possible, especially talking to me, as were her three brats children. I never cheated and committed adultery. I never complained about her staying a JW. I never interfered with her going to meetings and even drove her to assemblies and sat bored out of my mind through them. I even found articles she asked for in the Watchtower CD and printed them for her. Still, one day I came home from work to find her stuff packed and her gone. The main complaint? I would not tolerate my being shunned within the walls of my own house. I guess it is a sin to ask that all people within a house be greeted upon entering, even exJWs. I guess it is also considered a sin to not get up and leave the room whenever faithful Jehobos stop by so as to not offend them, inside my own home.
But, a question for you. Since you state that adultery is the only grounds for divorce, how can JWs accept those who were divorced and remarried prior to becoming JWs? Contrary to your faulty summation, financial reasons are usually the largest grounds for divorce today, not adultery. If Jehovah says only adultery is the valid reason (and it was Moses that said that, not Jehovah) and Jehovah never changes, how do they accept those converts who divorced for reasons other than adultery and remarried?

just curious.
maybe this topic has been addressed before, but has anyone here read the book, the bible code by michael drosnin?
i am reading it right now.... comments?
Lassie, don't worry about bringing up so called "dead subjects" here. Many are constantly being brought up again and again. Some don't care for it and others will join in with it. Many missed the other mentions so may be interested in discussing it.
As for the Bible Code, at one time, I saw some interest in it, but after researching the subject, dropped it. I view it as just someone else saying thay have found the "inside track" to scriptures. Instead, I have tried reading it again, but from the mindset of ancient Jews, as recommended in the book "The Doctriine of the Trinity, Christianity's Self Inflicted Wound," By Anthony Buzzard and Charles Gooding. Since it was primarily ancient Jews who wrote it, I strive to see it as they wrote it and not as we think it is today.
An interesting side note, I watched a program last night on the History Channel about the Bible and who wrote it. It appears there may be missing books to it, according to some scholars they didn't name. Luke and Matthew seem to be copied from Mark and references are made to another unknown book they call "Q." Of course, this is all speculation so far, as no copies of thius mysterious missing book can be found, but appears to be referenced to. I regret I didn't take notes, but will do some research into it.
I also bear in mind that it was the early Catholic Church that compiled the Bible as we know it today and declared it holy. Yet, most every Christian religion declares them ungoldy today. Still, they use the Bible as declared by the Catholics, save the Apocrypha. What my research will do towards my view and belief of the Bible remains to be seen.

my wife and i have been witnesses for almost 50 years.
we are both third generation witnesses and raised in the "lie".
we raised our kids in it also.
Hello and welcome, Robotnomore. It's nice to see new ones seeing the truth about the "lie." Your story is encouraging and proff that one is never too old to see the real light.
I look forward to hearing more about you and your research and awakening of the "lie."
