Can you imagine any JW, past or present, in a debate with the mighty Hitchens? Talk about a hitchslap!

Notorious A**hole Christopher Hitchens Thrown Into The Eternal Flames Of Gehenna
by Philadelphia Ponos inthe first time i heard of christopher hitchens was today when his named was mentioned multiple times in the comment section of a youtube video.
after reading a brief summary of his life, it became clear that this guy was a complete douche-bag.
a very arrogant sarcastic bigoted f**k who looked down on everyone who didn't share his beliefs.

Q for all Christians (not just JW) about the ransom.
by Anony Mous inso this is the basic logical flaw in christianity i believe.
a brother identified it from the stage for me in a talk.
we all agree (as christians and jw's) that the ransom was necessary because adam lost his perfection and everlasting life.. this is a paraphrase from the talk:.

Sinners in the hands of an angry god, indeed.
As was stated on this forum sometime ago, Jesus didn't pay a ransom, he just had a bad weekend.
Be that as it may, none of it makes sense. The obvious answer is there is no god and it's all a fairy tale. To think otherwise is to be trapped forever in absurd Monty Phythonesque logic.

Would you pose as an "interested one" and "study" to help free my family?
by Essan in...in return for someone else doing the same with your friends or family?.
this is a hypothetical question to see how many would be interested in something like this and if it could work.
(i created another thread about this but the title and op wasn't clear enough.

"Isn't it ironic, don't cha think?" -- Alanis Morissette
Isn't it ironic that people who once spent all of their time and energy trying to get people to become Jehovah's Witnesses are now spending all of their time and energy trying to get people to stop being Jehovah's Witnesses?
If that's your bag and that's what makes you happy, go for it.
But as Gregg Allman once sang, "I ain't wasting time no more."

Streets76, I don't think this is a trivial matter.
Agreed. but it seems like a time-consuming proposition with little if any chance of success (just MHO). Some people just cannot be reasoned with. They live in their little worlds and are happy with it. I'd love to "rescue" my older brother from the clutches of the WTS, but it ain't gonna happen, no matter what I say or what anyone says. If he ever leaves, it will be of his own accord, for his own reasons, and not because Indiana Jones swooped in and showed him the light. Leaving will have to be his idea. And at the end of the day, to be perfectly honest, I've come to the viewpoint of not giving a rat's ass. I'm only responsible for myself. I'm sad that he's pissed away his entire life so far for no good reason, but so be it.

This seems like a good career opportunity -- for $100,000 a pop (plus expenses), I'll go anywhere you wish for six months and de-program the JW of your choice. No guarantees.

THE FLOOD - What's Jehovah's problem now?
by sizemik inthis question has been bugging me for a while now .
since the last thread on the biblical flood.. it's like this .
.. immediately prior to the flood, jehovah had deemed the earth full of badness, totally wicked and "ruined" .

So THREE total Armageddon events just to clean up a mess that HE created in the first place with a ridiculous command not to eat a particular type of fruit.
Three Armageddons just ain't enough, in my opinion. Personally, I'd feel better with seven, it's a biblical number. Make that ten or twelve.

If you're spending more time here than you ever did going to meetings, well, maybe you need a new hobby. I'm getting dangerously close.

What If The Bible Had Never Existed???
by ziddina ini'm thinking way outside the box here.... i looked up my thread title before starting this thread and guess what??.
no one appears to have ever considered this question before.... i've seen far, far, far too many people of european/british isles/african/american extraction defending this regional middle-eastern 'god', without realizing that their ancestors would never have willingly consented to give up their own deities to worship this interloper thrust upon them, usually at the point of a roman sword... or occasionally for trading advantages, as in the case of many of the heathen viking - norsemen.... so.
what if the bible had never existed?.

If the bible had never existed, most people would still be full of shit -- different shit, but shit just the same.
