  The New "Invite" - How Stupid Can They Be?

  while traveling down thru new england, i happened across one of the new district convention "invites".. how dumb can the watchtower society get?

  for the moment, let's ignore the fact that they expect people to drop everything.

  within a radius of one, two or even three hundred miles and attend an inner city convention over a weekend.

  When I came back from a quick trip to the store Tuesday, my husband laughed and said I'd missed the Witlesses working our street. The sister was working one side and the brother was working the opposite side. He said she offered him a tract inviting him to something but he didn't accept it. He had the impression it was for a convention. Wonder why they're not in pairs? Ours is a quiet neighborhood, but isn't this unusual?

  I told him, next time take the, tract so I can describe it on the board, lol!

  Do you have to be "gullible" in order to be a good JW?

  in french we use the word "naif", which means to believe anything that's said without proof of it being true.

  i think that gullible is the english translation.. i was very gullible in my early jw years.

  i guess it's not faith that one needs to be a good jw, but gullibility...

  You would definitely have to be gullible, naive, vulnerable, or lonely. Or all of these. My dear Mother is a sweet, gullible woman who immediately believes everything she reads in the newspaper, or any magazine. If she reads about a new health fad, vitamin or herb, she tries it right away, because she read it will do wonders for you! Imagine what putty she is if it's printed in the Watchtower!

  She lives in her own innocent little world and does not really want to know the truth about the truth. She grew up a naive, lonely farm girl, teased in school, and the Dubs made her feel special. She soaked it up like a sponge, even when they convinced her letting her Mother die from refusing blood was the right thing to do. After an investment like that, she seems to have her feet stuck in Watchtower cement, so to speak. So sad, and frustrating.

  Try to make it to your meetings!

  keep trying to get to your meetings remember the sister who walked 2 hours one way to feast at the spiritual banquet , or the bro who crossed crocodile infested waters to get to his meeting.. anyone remember any other guilt trip inducing illustrations?

  We had a sister with two little girls at our Hall. Her husband was Native American and struggled with alcoholism. They were really poor, and it pained me to see the little girls in rags, while Sister S. scraped up money for the circus ass-embly in Chicago. Invariably, her car would break down in a scary neighborhood. She used to call my dad, an elder, late at night sometimes to say Mr. S. was beating her. My dad used to sigh and tell her to call back if she needed him to come over. Never did he advise her to call the police. Mr. S. was usually mad about her going to the meetings, but that was her "obstacle" she endured for Jehoopla.

  "Giving a fine witness"

  recently i have heard a few movie stars make the comment that entertainers should not look at their on-screen image as any sort of idea of who they really are.

  trying to live up to a manufactured image for the screen is a huge mistake.

  I love Dog and Beth too! They always gather around for a prayer before going on a day's work. If they can help someone thru kindness or give them a push on the right path, they do. They show compassion towards the outcasts, more than I can say for many snotty elders and elderettes! I think they show Jesus' spirit towards their fellow man. Now, that is a witness!

  Another Anti-climactic weekend....JWs you can breathe again

  yep, so much anticipation and adrenaline used in preparation for the district convention.. well, we've just passed the first weekend of conventions and what do we see?

  are there any earth-shattering revalations?

  did anyone (ex-jw) who attended the conventions come back here and tell us they heard one scintilla of evidence that these people speak for god?.

  "I feel sorry for the families who are spending their hard earned money and vacation time..."

  Speaking from the employer's point of view, I wish they were spending their vacation time, lol! Too often, they call in sick if the vacation schedule is full, and it's a bear to cover for them. It's no secret they are at the convention. I had two elders who flat out refused to come to work, citing religious accomodation, when called in the office. They saved their vacation days for their family trips to Cancun, etc.

  My Dad was good for this too, when I was growing up. Demand the days off from the boss, and threaten to quit if the boss said no. He was good at his job, so they let him go, but he was very resented by the other guys. Gave quite the witness, haha. Then, he preserved his three weeks intact for our family summer trip.

  Yes, we can breathe again... our office is fully staffed till the circus ass-embly!

  The Single Most Dangerous JW Meeting....in my opinion!

  the way i see it, pretty much everyone here knows that the 5 weekly meetings, the memorial, the dc's and ca's are all a bunch of rubbish and jibber jabber.

  there is still one other meeting, not as frequently held as the others, that jw's use very effectively to control existing members and bring in new converts and this meeting sadly plays apon the emotions of all in attendance.. what meeting is this?.

  a kh funeral!!!.

  Funny Memory

  when i was 19 i was married, for two years already.

  the elders in our hall went to my husband and told him to monitor what i wear more closely because it was too revealing.

  they told him that a sister in our hall came to the body of elders and complained that before she became a witness she was a lesbian and my revealing clothing made her have immoral thoughts about me and asked the elders to please have me change my wardrobe so her thoughts would stop.

  Before she became a Witness, she was a, gasp, lesbian! Haha, and she still is! Like that's gonna change anything! Hanging out with Jehoopla's people won't change the way she was born.

  Shave heads?

  just a few weeks before the district convention, there was a brother playing a major part in the drama who decided to shave his head.........(there wasn't a lot there anyway) (this happened 3 or 4 years ago somewhere in canada).

  as a result, he was told he could no longer be in the drama...........and someone else had to step in on rather short notice.. it seems they still equate everyone with a shaved head as some kind of a "skinhead", belonging to a gang or something.. is this how it's views elsewhere?

  The Most Humiliating Thing That Happened To You As A JW...

  what was the most humiliating thing that happened to you as a direct result of being a jw?

  for me it was when i was made fun of at school for wearing dresses down to my knees, and tights, when mini-skirts and pantyhose were all the rage.

  i remember that i got this orange plaid jumper dress (dates me) from a friend, and i would hide it so that i could change into it in the bathroom at school.

  It doesn't sound like much, but I used to always have to pee during Saturday morning field service. The cargroup didn't want to break off to drive me to a restroom, so I had to wait. A few times, I had to go so desperately on those cold mornings, that I'd beg a householder to let me in to use the bathroom. I was a teenage girl at the door alone, out of view of the cargroup. Can you just imagine what could've happened to me? That was just humiliating! I now realize I had a urinary tract infection, more than likely, but my parents weren't into taking me to a doctor to get checked out. They just thought I was being a pain. It was SO humiliating that I still remember vividly, twenty years later.

  they are happily enjoying being witnesses.

  they are young and beautiful.

  when they came over today (to pick up a check), they look healthy (a bit too healthy) and happy.
