That is so disgusting. I'm applying my basic rule of thumb I use to Witness behavior: "Would Jesus act like this?" Definitely not!

The Elders want to meet with me ... (Judicial Meeting)
by Oubliette inthe elders want to meet with me.
at least that's what they keep telling me, and they've been saying it for more than a month and a half now.
just so you're clear: this is a judicial committee.

viewing porn makes you demonised!
by highdose inor so claims every jw i've ever met.
porn also makes you turn into a sexual deviant who is likely to become a homosexual, rapist or peadofile.. .
porn has specail powers that once viewed allows the demons to get into your mind and start controling it!!.

I personally do not see anything funny about it. Sadly, right now it is wrecking my marriage and my husband and I are separated due to his obsession with porn. He is up late on the computer and up early on the computer. He joined online groups which leads to cybersex invitations, and he bought porn DVD's.
After awhile, it takes more and more shocking images to hold the person's interest. My husband has no interest in real sex. He can log in and be with a different fantasy person or several- every night.
A man at work got caught viewing porn on a company computer. He was warned. He kept doing it and is now about to be fired. I'm so not thinking this is to be taken lightly. It has ruined lots of marriages. It starts out as no big deal but then it takes over.
Guys, when you think it's just boys being boys, please consider the damage being done to families and devastated wives who have lost their husbands to this. To some women, it's nothing to joke around about.
Sorry to rant. It's just so raw right now for me.

Just saw an elderly JW man...
by zengalileo inhe was walking with such a slump, dragging his feet, carrying a jacket, magazines barely visible just hanging from his fingertips.
if body language has any validity to it, this man was deeply discouraged and depressed.
i remember that slump too.

3rdgen, it's really nice to read your post. My Father passed away a few months ago, elderly and after lengthy health problems. It was so sad, because I do believe he harbored some doubts but it was too late to do his life over. After having been out for many years, some of "the friends" impressed me with their caring and willingness to help my Mom; others were real oddballs and clueless about appropriate times to visit the hospital or how long to stay. They had no idea the family wanted privacy in the final hours.
I do believe there are so many good folks still in who wonder about the direction the JW's are going in and the questionable leadership. Something seems "off" but they can't put their finger on it. After you get too old, (like my mom), you just hang on to basic biblical principles, and the friends you have made. It's too late to start over once you get in your seventies and eighties. They kind of cross their fingers that they've lived a good life and hope it will be allright.
Glad you are doing OK. I was a born in and know lots of us aren't evil people. We just sensed something didn't smell right at the Kingdom Hall, and try to live good lives. I honor my Mother and respect her fear of change. She is better off at her age being happy and naive than finding out there is anything wrong. Best of luck to you!

The J Dub Culture of Skirt-Wearing
by mummatron inthis is something that has always bothered me.
as a born-in jw i was raised as a little girl wearing skirts and dresses which is clearly quite normal in terms of gender-appropriate clothing.
however, the older i grew, the more i realised that all jw women and girls wore skirts to meetings and when out in fs, but would wear trousers in their everyday life.

It used to just mortify me to death when I was a teenager. I felt like a wierdo because after service, we'd stop for lunch at the mall and then walk around shopping. All the girls my age in the mall wore cool jeans but I was a dork in a 1950's get up. It wasn't appropriate for a mall, but we were supposedly winning people over without a word. Not.
Here's what I really didn't get: OK, so females had to wear skirts/dresses at the Hall or out in disservice to show honor to Jehovah. Well, didn't he see us all the time? But it was fine to change into jeans and t-shirt right away when I got home. Somehow jeans were fine at school and around town or at home. Jehovah didn't mind. But we had to rock the 1950's uniform when doing Witness activities, to show we were different from the world. Boy, we sure were and not in a way that impressed anybody like the JW's were hoping. Instead, people thought we were strange. Nobody ran in droves to the KH because of our Lucy and Ethel outfits. We just looked like religious freaks, kind of like the way people snickered at the Moonies.
I see the Witness ladies are still wearing the skirts and dresses, even though community standards have changed. I think they turn more people off with their oddities than they impress. I can't figure how they convince today's career woman to dress submissive and old fashioned for the Hall after a day supervising employees or having responsibilities.

Any of you folks from the awesome state of Colorado??
by SweetBabyCheezits inmy wife and i are thinking of moving our family to a better place in the us....away from jw family and out of the southern bible belt.
just curious how many of you live around co and, more specifically, near fort collins?
of course, we're open to any city that is less conservative and has awesome summer weather and outdoor activities.
-
Virgochik
Yes, Colorado Springs is pretty conservative...but why let that bother you? Your family would be too busy with outdoor recreation to care what a few uptight folks in the north end of the city are chirping about Focus on the Family. Just fish, camp, hike, and breathe deep the fresh mountain air.
But if conservatism does bother you, you can find the outdoor, healthy lifestyle in Boulder.

I feel ashamed of some of you
by Lady Lee ini did not sleep well last night.
i tossed and turned until 4 am .
got up and decided to see what was going on.. i am so disappointed in some of you.. simon posted a thread requesting people not post links to the new shepherding book.

I haven't been keeping up with the thread due to working late, but I think it's a shame. Just because we aren't JW's any more doesn't mean we shouldn't still be good, decent people. All rules aren't thrown out and we just run around screwing others after we quit the Kingdom Hall. All that does is make ex JW's look like the monsters they say we are. Please continue doing the right thing. We all have a conscience and a moral compass. I hope, anyway. Thanks for the reminder, Lady Lee. I'm just sorry you had to give it.
And for those jeopardizing this site, don't assume that's fine with the rest of us. I for one do not appreciate it.
