My mom wears pants and a blouse, but she's 86 and can't get pantyhose on any more. She kind of apologizes about it but says no one has criticized her. She is the old sweet grandma there, I think.

Can the women wear pants YET?
by annalice ini have not been an active witness active for several years now.
so are the women still being forced to wear skirts and dresses still?
i really think that the whole dress thing has been for some time now very outdated.

Beard Question For The Girls Out Of JWD (Guys Can Answer Too)
by jayhawk1 ini told my wife i wanted to grow out my beard a little longer.
she said that was fine with her.
then i mentioned i was thinking of letting it get as long as zz top's beards.

I vote no for that particular unstyled looking beard. How about something with a trimmed, neat, beard? Conditioned, so as not to chafe anyone.

I love the Geico commercials with a real customer and a paid celebrity to 'help' tell the story. I love the Burt Bacharach one, "Hope I'm never hit in the REAAAARRRR again." as the customer rolls her eyes. Too funny.
And then the one with little Richard, it's funny, too. Both those commercials send my mom (86) and me into hysterical laughter and imitations.
(Recall the my mom has a broken shoulder, and I have partially moved back home...)

I am on a committee at work (medium sized midwest hospital) for emergency preparedness. The potential for a flu pandemic has caused us to stockpile oxygen delivery supplies, IV fluids, etc and have plans for deciding ethical issues like "who gets the last ventilator?" The public education slogan is "Stock up and stay home." The federal government has funded huge plans for mass medicating and distribution, as part of the Homeland Security plans.
So actually, religious groups are encouraged to have their members prepare for a minimum 3 day crisis (storms, etc) and a 3 month quarantine (flu epidemic, war, etc).
Of course, you won't find reference to armaggedon or tribulation.
My elderly parents have paid attention to my urgings to stockpile non-perishables 'just in case'. Of course, here on the fringe of tornado alley and having lived through the depression, they are fine with that. Actually comes in handy--Dad's got tons of toilet paper and canned soup!

Do You Like Your Given Name?
by Outaservice inthe bible attaches importance to your name.
if not, what would you like to change it to?.
i always hated mine!

I like the way my Dad says my name, sort of minimizes the second 'N' (may just be the dentures talkin') And I LOVE my middle name, except when my mother uses it in conjunction with my first name . Then it means I'm being scolded. Remember, my mom broke her shoulder 4 weeks ago and I'm still camping on their couch. I'm 44 going on 15 when I'm in their house!

I loved the music at the skating rink get-togethers in the 70's. Once in a while a song would start and then RRRRIPPPP as one of the presiding censors pulled it off the turntable. (That's sort of like a big CD player for you younger folks) You could skate along to the beat of "I Will Survive", breeze in your hair, and actually feel cute and coordinated (of course, not for long; I'm not a very good skater).
Now in my old(er) years, I find myself excited to be holding 2 tickets to the KC and the Sunshine Band "Ultimate Dance Party" Concert for Friday. Includes Gloria Gaynor, Sister(s) Sledge, etc. I'm taking my 20 year old daughter with strict instructions to a)be my designated driver and b)not to laugh at old saggy people pretending to be young--that goes for audience and band, and especially her mom. I'm overdue for a night out.

The pro's and con's of being in the truth
by The wanderer init is understandable that individuals who read this thread will more.
than likely become offended and to those who feel as such i will .
apologize.
-

I can see some pro's, but they aren't exclusive to witnesses. Sure, I can speak in public. I can adapt to my audience. I can read aloud REALLY well...but my morals and values were from my parents. They were real. I saw other families in the congregation with totally different experiences.
My biggest negative was feeling 'different' from 'the world'. I didn't fit in, and still don't... Not even after 25 years.

This happened locally, if your a parent ... learn from it

i actually used to live about three houses down from these people.
when i read of something like this, it makes me all the more careful as a parent and never assume anything when it comes to your young children.

So awful! I'm an ER nurse, and took care of a toddler who was hit by her mommy in a similar 'blind spot' tragedy. Absolutely heartbreaking--one of my worst experiences in my 24 years there...
As an aside, 40 years ago one of the sisters in our congregation backed over a little boy while out in service and killed him. My only recall of the incident that I was dropped off abruptly at a cousin's for a LONG time while Mom stayed with her. Mom says she(the driver) was never the same.

Can somebody update me on Revelation interpretation?
by nsrn init's been a long time, but i've gotten fuzzy on who all the characters in revelation are supposed to be, ala jw... .
was the 'harlot' the dreaded world empire of false religion?
is that the same as 'christendom' said with a sneer?

Thanks, Blondie.
