I have no idea what they currently believe about that but I'll bump your thread to the top of the active list.

can anyone tell me what the jehovah,s witnesses currently believe regarding the date that cyrus destroyed the temple at jerusalem.
i asked a witness and they told me that they now believe that cyrus arrived in jerusalem in 607 bce but did not destroy the temple until 20 years later!!!!
this still makes a nonsense of 1914!!!.

i am listening to the rach.
2nd piano concerto right now.
rachmaninoff was a human of incredible accomplishment.
Not only were talents squelched but I remember hearing several times from the platform that even classical music can misguide us. Many of the composers led immoral, drug-ravaged lives.
Beware of music that debases.

after reading about puternuts (ari) suicide, and also reading about sabine and js losing their daughter to this cult, i think it would be a fitting memorial, so to speak, to write a list of all the people we know who died because of this cult.
i also know that cruzanheart lost her dad to it, too.
i'm sure there are many here that can make a list of suicides brought on by the shunning/threatening policies of the watchtower cult.
We had a family friend (actually my mom's first Truth Book placement and subsequent Bible Study) who I believe committed suicide in 2003 - at home in New Jersey.
I can't confirm because no one will say how she died. (Unusual to not tell cause or details or even circumstances).
I would really like to get confirmation of this but don't know how to.
I don't want to give names out of respect for her surviving son (a bethelite).
Her husband and son were killed in a car accident in 1975 on their way to a special assembly. She was critically injured in the accident but survived. She re-married and then later on developed a fear of people and isolated herself from everyone. Not leaving the house for months at a time. I believe she was also diagnosed as manic-depressive. Her son and a few friends were happy to report that they had finally gotten her off all medications and she was driving again and even going out in service after 15+ years of self-imposed isolation.
About 6 months later she was dead. And no one will say how or what happened.
If anyone knows who I'm talking about, please pm me.

a jw friend of mine who used to be very close to me just sent me a link to this video made by some dubs.
she knows i'm inactive but hasn't said a word about it to me.
do you think she is trying to send me a not too subtle message with this video?.

Edited to correct the link.
i now have a life beyond jehovah's witnesses.
i am able to impact kids in their development into young adults who have risen above challenging circumstances.
these children are always impoverished but may be challenged in other ways, as well.. my job is to mold them into productive citizens, contributing adults.
Good to hear, Auld Soul!
Is your wife as happy with your new lives?? Has she made contact with the local cong?
Don't forget to find things to do for just yourself and the two of you. If you keep spending energy on the kids, you may burn out. Remember to nurture yourselves, too.

this mornings events have got me thinking about things.
i love peanut butter, not the sweet kind but i like the old fashioned peanut butter, usually laura scudder's with no sugar or preservatives - it just tastes better imo.
i put it on everything including pancakes which are really good with peanut butter and maple syrup.
Peanut Butter and Fuji Apples ---> My favorite snack

has anyone here been involved or know anything about clinical drugs testing and trials?
i'd just like to gather as much information as i can before i go ahead.
am interested in info both sides of the atlantic.
When I was around 13/14 my mom would sign all us kids up for clinical testing. It was mostly topical creams and such that they would swab on our arm and put a bandage over it. We'd return in a week or so for them to see if there was any skin irritation and to collect the money.
Not sure I'd put my little kids thru that but I'd consider doing that sort of testing again as an adult.

the basic scoop: my best jw friend from michigan came into org with his wife when he was about 26 (he's about 45 now.
) he loved the org, but, aside from being a really cool and interesting guy, he also suffered from depression quite a lot.
more than 10 years ago he approached me about anti-jw stuff he found online.
Yeah, us regular-work people are funny like that. Not too many of us are up for a 5 hour roundtrip drive on a work night.
Then again, some of us are quite willing to take a day or an afternoon off to meet up with friends.
I sure hope you get to meet some people out there. If my brother still lived there... well, he doesn't so I guess it's a moot point.
Take care!

it seemed that running my business and all the meetings at the hall, plus my social life was taking a toll on my time.
there was a brother at the hall, that was married, and a very good public speaker (used to be a radio announcer) .
anyhow, he was always short on cash and was agreeable to my offer as follows............... if i was assigned to give a talk out of town at a neighboring congregation, i would pay him to take the talk for me as a substitute (at the time $25.00) and then i would stay home that day.. i gave him $10 for an instruction talk, $10 for a service meeting part, and $5 for anything else such as reading the watchtower sundays or a bible reading, etc.. it was a 'win, win' situation for both of us.. outaservice (now out of money).
I never even *heard* of that...!! LOL Pretty funny!
