Going to be 39 this year and there's just so much more upkeep these days! I've considered some cosmetic surgery options, have to color my hair, am wondering how many years I can still wear my hair long before it makes me look "old". I don't like today's music so much and I think the teenage girls at the mall dress like sluts. Guess I am old already, lol.

At what age did you start to notice that you were getting/looking "Old"?
by JH in.
we all get older every day, that's not my question, but at what age did you notice that you weren't able to do as much as when you were younger, or at what age did you start to see a different person in the mirror..and it didn't please you.

How my mind has become more troubled .....
by troubled mind inwell our fade seemed to be going along pretty smoothly even with the slight hitch of having to attend the memorial .
then this weekend good old mother in law who lives a thousand miles away , and talks to us once every few months , called, on speaker phone no less .
i know she has informats here and she has been dropping hints for months that she knows something is up , but she never comes out and just asks .

Good luck (feels good to say that) and take comfort in the fact that being able to openly state your feelings is a freedom that you can now have and one they will never have as long as they continue in the "truth". Prepare yourself for their shunning though. It is difficult, but after awhile you realize it is their loss. I love my parents, but I can only take so much of their preaching anyhow, so not being able to discuss religious things has actually been a blessing. Also, you never know what that maybe your actions will help another one or more out of that religion.

me, the apostate attending jw funeral/memorial service
by Lutece67 intomorrow i am going to pay respects to a woman i knew for many years who passed away.
i'm not really sad, she was in her 90's and i was surprised she made it so long considering her numerous trips to the hospital.
she also was more of a friend of my mom's than mine.

The funeral was actually very good. I thought the elder handling it did a nice job of telling some nice stories about her before going into the "why we have the hope of resurrection" talk. I went up to several people I hadn't seen in years and they gave me big hugs. My mother was happy, she didn't have to go and sit by herself (she feels weak and lowly cuz she doesn't go out in service, the guilt you know). There was a big posterboard with pictures all over it. I thought they did a good job. I just wanted to share.

UPDATE: Semi-Back-in-Business
by RichieRich inover the past couple of weeks, i've learned a lot about myself and those around me.
life might suck, but life moves on.. mom's grip is weakening, prob.
because she's getting tired, or because she's beginning to realize how things are.. not everything i have done is admirable, but its done.

Sorry to give the wrong impression, I certainly know that would be wrong and classless to do at a funeral! I just sometimes think about attending a sunday meeting and leaving flyers all over, but probably at a hall in a different town, one where it won't cause the elders to restrict my mom even further from speaking to me.

Sort of excited about it, though I keep having ideas (not during a funeral of course) of placing flyers all over with www.jehovahs-witness.com or www.silentlambs.com or causing a ruckus, but I probably wouldn't have the guts. I just want to let them know that I was a friend too and they can ignore me, but they can't deny I'm there.

Tomorrow I am going to pay respects to a woman I knew for many years who passed away. I'm not really sad, she was in her 90's and I was surprised she made it so long considering her numerous trips to the hospital. She also was more of a friend of my mom's than mine. I guess you could say I'm doing it more for my mom.
There was no obituary in the paper and she was already buried, but they are having a little memorial at the hall for her tomorrow. I haven't been to that hall in a few years so it shall be interesting to see how they react. My "worldly" fiance will be going with me. I'm kind of excited for him to see how the jw's handle a funeral and also for him to see just how crazy they treat those who have left their religion. He's only heard my horror stories so this ought to be an eye-opener for him. Just thought I'd share...will tell you all how it goes tomorrow night. Anne

I was a newspaper columnist and would get recognized here and there (and free invites to charity balls, etc). The elders used one of my columns about Halloween to try and get me, but I da'd first. I had been planning to anyway, so the column was sort of my invitation to let them know my feelings on their beliefs I guess.

I used to be more of a regular a long time ago, posted as Lutece and Pierced Angel. Well today I checked out this board and found this post and link and am so glad I did. The story is fantastic and I read the whole thing this afternoon. It's very well written and captivating. Enjoy!
