this whole "reform" nonsense is driving me up the wall.. nothing is going to "reform" the wtbts.

nobody is going to "reform" the wtbts.. crying out loud, be realistic about this.

we have a group of men who have at least some faith & belief that what they do is "divinely" approved, and they have 6 million suckers who follow.

While Judge Rutherford was patting Hitler on the back, jw's where operating underground, setting up mimeograph machines to distribute smuggeled literature.

Even if the governments/courts impose fines, direct change of policy, there will be a very high percentage of the six million who will consider this part of 'the great tribulation' serving to empower a fervor for 'the truth'.......and we that were around prior to 1975 know first hand, what people with fervor can accomplish.

It is in fact a fantasy, pipe dream, to believe anything will reform the WTBS.

one of the things that i think i was supposed to believe all my years in the organization was that the earth is the only inhabited planet.

am i right in this or am i having a flashback???

is there other life in the universe?

You make a very salient observation. The bible a book containing some of the most superstitious, other worldly, spiritistic, assertions all wraped up in a package of so-called inspired 'words of God'.

Just how different is the concept of a 'cherub with a flaming sword' guarding the 'entrance' to the garden of eden, any different than the 1,000's of so-called heathen beliefs centering around god's, goddess, totems, or other imaginary creatures?

Why do so many just turn off thier reasoning ability when confronted with amazing claims made in the bible? Yet when confronted with heathen or so called pagan belief's, they will laugh or deride such gullibility of those who were devout 'believer's'?

To answer my own question, it imo because they were and are taught that the 'Bible' is God's word. They cannot prove it, any more than those pagan's who worshiped Baal or any other invented spirit or devine entity.

How true. I remember so vividly the constant haranging, meeting after meeting, mag after mag, articles, talks, on the expected 'persecution'. The book 'Babylong The Greatest God's Kindumb Rules' painting the senario soon after the 'king of the north' (Russia) did it's number on the 'king of the south' (anglo-america), turning on jw's with severe persecution......ahhh then HARMaGeditOn vindicating jw's. Not to mention the tremendous glee we had as jw's to be alive then (pre-1975) to see the UN turn on the 'harlot' riding the back of the beast (UN) destroying all of Christendom and religion. We were eager for the persecution.

Of course that is 'old light' now, instead they are constantly pestered with similar warning's about 'the cooling off of the greater number', APOSTATES now the focus, instead of the 'wild beast with seven heads and ten horns'.....it's watch out for the nafrious former member's like JT who are so obviously EVIL and VILE enough to calculatingly go after poor little 'mindless' sheep like her. Assine position, but it is what they have been drilled to expect.

I think your comments to her, will carry more wieght than you may know.

I did see where you were coming from. I made my comments based solely on the recent debacle involving SL.

Ever since this issue hit the news, it has served to fan the flames of unrest and literaly devasted friendships, aquaintances right here on this board. There has been little tolerance or willingness to accept differing opinion's on this subject matter, from both sides of the fence. Even those trying to take a middle ground have been subjected to ridicule and spite, some people here shunning one another since day one.

It has developed into another religion for some. No quarter given, not even the slightest indicator, that perhaps we should have listened to those who first critiqued our methods. Someone recently lauded BB for being 'ballsy' about the affair........'ballsy' is not synonimus with courage or wisdom, any backstreet rufian can display 'balls', it is the wise, insightful generals who usually win the wars.

So exuse me for using your request of advice, as a platform for what I wanted to say.

In the truest sense of the word we address the needs of the abused every day here. Sexual abuse acted upon children is vile, as is sexual abuse against adults, but the abuse meted out by the WTBS on its 'silent sheep' is just as pervasive, if not more endemic than pedophilia.

The wrenching apart of families, depression, suicides, economic debilitation, resultant from adherence to jw dogma, is imo the worst form of abuse.

Who of us even 20, 30, or more years out, do not suffer to this day, the personality flaws, deeply imbeded thought paterns, planted by this incidious religion? Sure some suffered more than other's, but we all are and will remain in some sort of truamatic shock from our association with the 'Truth'.

Iam starting to feel much like I do about 'special interests' in the world of politics. Child abuse is just that, one of many very serious issues to be addressed. Those who devote almost thier entire energy to a 'special interest' can and do become very intolerant, of those not in 'lock step' to thier way of thinking.

Each individual on this forum should decide just how much energy, how much effort he/she will devote to any one of the number of serious issues involved in healing from Watchtower tyranny.

No more no less, and no one should pass judgement or condemnation for exercising that free will.

I got an e-mail for a long-lost dub friend

there is this woman i used to correspond with back in my dub days but lost contact with several years ago.

anyway just the other day she sent me an e-mail out of the blue.. she wanted to know if i was "in" or "out" as she was planning a trip to australia and if i was still "in" possibly we could meet (obviously i would have to travel to oz).

she had heard i wasn't going to the meetings any more.. i replied that i was definitely not "in" any longer but that i wasn't da'd or df'd and if she wanted to read my story i provided her a link to my story on this site.

If they were'nt so damn predictable it would be funny. Yet the almost clone-like responses from jw's in these situations are proof positive, that they are seriously under the effects of mind control.

The only time they allow themselves the option of communicating with 'apostates' is under the guise of some 'business matter'. Normally this involves $.

Shunning comes so easy to them, because they have installed a 'fail safe,' feel ok, trigger in thier brains. This self deluding 'scapegoat' of righteous indignation, allowing them to totally ignore common everyday human compassion or empathy. Conditional just does not seem to clarify this syndrome. It is much more deviant, bordering on psychotic, no not bordering on, it is psychotic!

As if her rejection, her need to strike out at you, will in fact facilitate a 'turning around' on your part. Don't they realize by this form of conduct, they more often than not, cement the resolve of those they apply this 'godly' discipline to? It has worked perfectly in my case.

As a jw I remember the pity I felt for the Amish. Thinking to myself how silly to live so archaic a life style. It never even crossed my mind, that my own 'religion' was just as archaic, if not moreso. At least the Amish do not have to mix with 'world' pretending to be something they are not.

Jw's should wear some sort of identifiable garb, drive only 1988 Ford Fairlanes, and grow long arm pit hair, so that other's would be immediately notifed, hey were going to have deal with a looney now. It would make things so much easier.
