My 1st cong was full of arseholes. Jumped up window washers who though they were on to a good thing. 2nd was fine apart from a few pricks who moved in to help out. I cringe when I think of those ballbags! 3rd one was full of drunk elders and had a history of paedo trouble which lead to us moving out pretty quickly. All in all, your average JW was ok. I always found many elders and servants were nothing more than a bunch of strokers.

Did You Like Your Congregation?
by minimus inthe hall i was in the last few years was not a bad place.
most of the people were middle class, some had college educations (like the po and his wife); they generally weren't over critical.
of course there were a few elders and publishers that were pains but for the most part the people in that hall were pretty decent.

I noticed that you mentioned 'getting gung up on 80 year old articles'. Its not really down to that mate. You are oversimplifying it. Not that it is complicated! Most of us are/were confused as to how a religion claiming to be guided by god can change major doctrines etc so regularly over the years. And as for the high moral standards displayed by jehovahs people, well that just made me laugh!

As a JW,what affected U most from non-JWs? Hatred, anger, or pity?
by Gayle in.
i think for me,,expressions of hatred and anger only fueled my persecution complex.
pity bothered me..

I really feel that many worldly people pitied the JW`s for leading such an wacked out lifestyle. The lack of love in the org and the real love that I saw in the world really troubled me. After all, they were supossed to be getting destroyed for their wickedness. Yet there is more real love among the worldy people.

I am always surprised that there are so few leaving in my area. Yes, many are slowing down but you would think they would just jack it in. The reason I feel that way is that most people have problems with depression or anxiety or illness (excuses?). There is an overwhwlming feeling of negativity around the JW`s. It is unbearable. The negative outlook really effected my mind. I suppose I am saying that I think a great number are seriously pissed off but yet stick it out for their own reasons, even though they feel like bolting .

Did Being One Of Jehovahs Witnesses Kill Your Drive?

it is understandable how someone who has been a jehovahs witness .
for a number of years could become complacent and except their lot in life.

I was indeed only driven in a WTS way before I left. Now I use my beutiful kids as a motivation to be a great dad, a good provider and a nice person. I am constantly driven to think about them and how I can positively effect their future. My 2 kids are absolutely everything to me. :-)

ADVICE PLEASE. No lit for ex-JW - I have to put an ultimatum to my wife.
by jambon1 inif it is true that it has been announced that ex-jw`s are not to get the study watchtowers, then i must put an ultimatum to my wife.
i look through the wt's at the moment to gauge any radical teachings that i may need to counter with my 2 kids.
if my wife rewfuses to give me the 'secret' wt's then im afraid that it is the end of her taking them to the meetings.

Thanks guys for the advice. I maybe came across a little wrongly. I have picked my JW battles quite well over the last year or so, and apart from the odd occasion, I have kept my cool. I just feel that if my wife decides that she will refuse me the magazine, then not only will it hurt me that my own wife would take such a stand, but I would effectively be denied any opportunity to monitor what they are teaching. Cheers. Yours, cautiously, J.

Funny how the WTS speaks against creature worship (ie birthdays), but the cong can't wait to lick the CO's/DO's arsehole when he rides into town!

What was your 1st Deception as a JW?
by JH inwas was the first thing that really decieved you, in your jw years?.
was it the way you were treated, or maybe a teaching that deceived you ?.
i think my 1st deception was when they said that the resurrected ones wouldn't be allowed to get married in the new system.. then i wondered why ???

I felt that the WTS were really like a radically different religion from the rest of christianity which disgusted me. I really thought that they were different in a good way. Then, when I was in I saw the way elders acted, I was aksed not to wear a jersey to the KH, the beard thing, lots of other man made rules. Then the d/f issue which you dont really have a grip on as a study. The whole thing just began to fall apart very quickly. I should have left earlier than I did.
