I have those same feelings too. I had 10 years in that org and sacrificed a lot of goo dtimes with my entire non JW family. 3 or 4 of them that I loved died during this time and they never got to know how I felt about them, purely because of my estrangement. For 1, my aunt who died last year, it is particularly painful to me. I even feel guilty because I succumed to that crock of absolute shit instead of being with my beutiful family memebers. Make the most of the future.

I hate the fact that belief in this religion stole potential memories .....
by troubled mind inbecause of growing up in a divided household i had a glimpse into family gatherings at the holidays .
my most treasured memories are of those shared times together .
we would come over to our grandparents after the gift giving ,but still shared the meals and the family .

I spoke with an elderly JW this week. Lovely woman. Kind and generous.
It got me thinking; they are'nt all bad?
Some witnesses are ok. Of course they are. Many are really, really lovely people.
Yet, when I think about it deeply, I come to this conclusion.
Each JW has compromised their personal integrity. They have not been true to themselves.
Each time they hear about a disfellowshipping and know that it was unjustly dealt with. Each time they view the good people of this world as deserving of death. Each time they succumb to a bullying elder. Each time that they ignore another human being in the street. Even worse, each time that they blindly back some evil elders in a badly dealt with case of child abuse. The list goes on.................
But every time that Jehovah's Witnesses ignore their natural inclinations, in favour of such obviously stupid, cruel, unloving doctrine, they compromised their own personal integrity.
No matter who they are, where they are, or why they do it - SHAME ON EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM!

Did feel that you were at a mental breaking point at the point of leaving?
by jambon1 inprior to you leaving the org did you come to the conclusion that if you didnt actually take the step and leave, that you would run into serious mental difficulty.. i really feel that for 5 years proir to my finally leaving i was quite impaired mentally by the teachings and practices of the org.
it was coming to a head though when i finally announced that i was leaving.
i really felt that i was under intense mental pressure and that if i didnt get out then i may end up doing something serious.

Anyone else concur?

in my particular case, it was emotional damage because individuals consider me .

This is one thing that irks me about my time in the org.
I converted at 17 years old from a very normal, run of the mill, atheist family. No-one has ever experienced depression to any great extent or had mental problems in my family.
However, after ten years of living in the org I ended up having some pretty big issues. I had a secret drink problem, suicidal feelings, low self-esteem and depression.
My estranged relationships with my atheist family caused me a great degree of concern as well as the constant mental torture of losing everyone & everything that you love dearly at the big A.
Afte a year out of the org I am like a new person. Back to being confident and fully enjoying life as I focus on the aim of being a good dad and provider. Thats all that matters to me just now and I am happy that I am doing it well with no feelings of low self worth in the 'nothings ever good enough' existance that is being a JW.
