This site has not outlived its usefulness by any stretch of the imagination, and that's why it would be such a shame to see it go. There simply needs to be a high-profile website such as this one for people who are exiting, doubting, or thinking of joining da twoof. It's easy to forget, once you've been out 5 or 10 or however many years just how traumatic an experience it can be to leave Towerland. And with respect to amama2, moxie, and others, I just don't see any of the other boards reaching the level that this board has.

HERE'S A BOMBSHELL ABOUT THE 144,000 DOCTRINE......
by Mary injust when you think you've heard it all............in my research for my project, i was doing some digging around on the subject of the 144,000 and came across something in the wts's literature that absolutely stunned me and, being the generous soul that i am , wanted to pass it on to you to get your thoughts on this.. .
we all know that the society teaches that the 144,000 mentioned in revelation is speaking of "spiritual israel" and not 'fleshly israel' or even other christians in general right?
there are countless quotes throughout the literature that we are all familiar with that specifically state this, but to drive home a point, here are a few:.

Hey Dan, who was that elder you were talking about? Me?
Maybe, ... if you look at the explanation the “faithful elder” gave Mary, as I did on my previous post!
Nick!Nick, I'm sure you're not him as I see in your profile that you were raised in da twoof and the elder (Ken) that I wrote of was a convert. But your explanation definitely is just the sort of head-spinning Tower-ese that Ken could recite at a moment's notice, and tell it to you like it all makes such perfect sense and see how easily any doubts we might have are resolved if we just reason it out? LOL

Are we beating a dead horse?
by Gregor inthe wtb&ts has already shown clear signs of defeat which have been pointed out here very thoroughly.
those who cling to it have their own motivations, most of which are based in either self delusion, ignorance or plain old fear of shunning.
the majority of people in mainstream culture who even recognize the name, jehovah's witnesses, associate them with an annoying fundamentalist group who knock on your door to push their pamphlets.

I think that this is what bothers me the most. The R&F may not be fully aware of the fact that it's all a big lie but you know the people in charge do. They are ruthless, cruel, callous individuals who should be made to pay for the lives they've ruined/are ruining. They are the epitome of the fulfillment of the scripture about satan transforming himself into an angel of light.
I'm not sure that *all* among the Emperor Class are aware that they have no clothes. For the ones that do, I'm sure that some are callous and power-hungry individuals who derive their whole sense of existence from their important place within the machinery and who give little thought to whether or not the product that the machine produces has any merit. I imagine that others may have more pure motives - that even if the product is bunk, that there are many very nice people who are emotionally dependent on it, and that it would be cruel to make them suffer the shock that would come were the Society to come clean and admit that they're just making it up as they go along, and always have been.
Most are just victims of victims of victims. -

Wow, good work Mary. That one makes no sense - purely arbitrary.
I love how the Society reasons on these things: If the twelve tribes of Matthew 19:28 and Luke 22:30 was a reference to "Spiritual Israel", then this would indicate that Jesus' disciples were somehow separate from the 144,000, and since there can be No Doubt™ that they are of the 144k, and that all other references to Spiritual Israel Evidently™ point to the 144,000, then in this one special case Jesus Apparently™ used this term in a different context. LOL.

Agreed. I converted in 1992, back when Freddie was still alive. The org still had a bit of swagger left then. It has none now. It would take a person twice as needy and ignorant as I was then to convert nowadays, and that's saying something.

So, you blew your chance to go to college because of JWs? Don't give up!
by cabasilas ini got the jw "bug" as a teenager.
witnesses called at our door when i was nearly 11. my parents are deaf and i was the oldest hearing child, the default interpreter for them in that era before relay services and professional interpreters.
they had no interest in jws, but it started to spark an interest in me.

Congratulations cabasilas!
I was sort-of a college student when I came under the spell of the Washtowel back in 1991. I quit going because college was generally frowned upon at the time. Then in 1998 I started back after the Fartful Knave seemed to relax their views on higher education a bit, but I only took classes here and there. I left da twoof back in 2002, but I still was pretty lazy about school until 2005. I picked up the pace then and finally got an associate of arts degree in 2007. This Fall I'm starting classes at a private university that's close to where I live. My employer pays $5k a year of my college tuition, which pretty much covers all of it. It'll take me about 3 years to earn a bachelor's degree. I think it will be mighty sweet having a bachelor's degree on my wall, considering all the f'n wrong turns and boneheaded decisions I've made in life. -

What features do you like about this site?
by eyeslice ini detect a level anxiety due to the fact that this site is shortly to close.
i too find the familiarity of this site reassuring and i feel comfortable navigating my way around it.
as more of a 'lurker' than a 'poster', i find active topics the best feature of this site, as it means i can log in, and in 5 minutes catch up with the news of the week.
