sorry if this has been done to death, i only did a quick scan and didn't see a topic like this, so i appologize in advance if this was started someplace else.. this morning i woke up and thought about where i was last year, and the complete shock i felt at this same time last year...and i was just wondering if any of you had those same feelings this morning.. so where were you?
i always find stories of what people were doing at the time they heard to be really interesting-please share if you'd like.
no great story here - just flipped on the TV before heading into work, and there it was...my mind was so numb over my personal situation (2001 was a rough rough year all around for me) that it took a while for the magnitude of the situation to hit me.

i have found differences in the way to plant seeds of doubt: here are my experiences.
when speaking to jw's i found that the "un" & the child abuse cases where the jw pedophiles have been convicted and in prison works wonderful.. when speaking with non-jw's i found that speaking to them about jw pedopiles who go door to door makes them totally irate.. i've also asked them to do non-biased research on topics they are not sure.
i've told them if you are in the "trvth" you have nothing to worry about the information that you will find.. let's share what has worked for you when plating seeds of doubt?.
Last November 60 Minutes II had a story about a 15 year old boy who was completely cured of sickle cell anemia by receiving a transfusion of umbilical cord blood. At the time, I was still a JW, but this story made me say to myself "thank god that kid's mom isn't a JW".
I never knew that at one time, that the GB used the exact same line of reasoning that they use to prohibit blood tranfusions, to prohibit vaccinations and organ transplants. (Which I learned on the internet, but, as others have stated, DON'T say that word!)
Also, the 1975 issue was an eye-opener for me. "Some brothers just got carried away" is the current party line. Total Fred-Franzian bullshit.
i don't know if anyone has posted similar thoughts to this, but i've been thinking about this off and on over the past year.. i understand that a dozen or so jw's lost their lives in the 9/11 massacre.
since then, i've often wondered to myself what may have been going through their minds during these frightful moments (if they weren't among the lucky ones who died instantly).
did they think armageddon had come, and, as they lay dying in the smoke and ashes and chaos, did they think that they were dying at jah's hand, because they hadn't done enough?

I wasn't stating fact, just speculating about a possible scenario that may have played out...didn't mean to show a lack of respect towards anyone. I've wanted to post on this subject for a while, but was always afraid of sounding insensitive, but considering some comments that were made on this board about the Phillipino JW's (comments along the lines of "why should we feel sorry for them? After all, they teach that their God is going to kill 99.99% of the earth's pop very soon" - comments that I agreed with), I felt like I could do it.

So I imagine that those who died in the towers who were witnesses must have thought that they had been rejected by God as unfaithful. What a terrible thought to have as one is dying

one of the first "privileges" any prospective witness has is that of being a publisher.of course, once you're a publisher,you are one for life.
so, either you are a "good" publisher or a "bad" one.
a good publisher has to get the national average,be a "good" example, and pretty much do whatever the elders ask of you.
I was pathetic. People used to "heave sighs" when they seen me coming. I would get out about every 3 months. I was never able to go beyond 3 Saturdays in a row. Then I would sink into inactivity for another 2 or 3 months. I used to give very good talk number 2's and 5's. Once I was told I had given the best reading they ever heard......Every once in a while an elder would take interest in me but would throw the towel in after a while
Holy shit Alchemist, that is so me it isn't funny!!!! Except with me it was more like once or twice a year, and two consecutive Saturdays was unthinkable.
I killed 'em with my no.2 and no.4 talks, though. The elders wanted me to be a regular publisher SO bad, they were always trying something ("we could use you brother, if you'd just get out in service!") Nothing worked.

That their bloodguilt was too great for them to be spared? Or maybe the whole situation jacked them so full of adrenaline that their minds switched completely over to survival mode, and they didn't have any sort of contemplative thoughts like these.
Has anybody else wondered about this?

I have a dream...that someday I'll find a female that I really click with, and we would have the most fantastic sex...hey, it could happen...trouble is, I'm always the back-door man, I always seem to attract married women. When I was in the borg, I had to be so careful around the married sisters, but the single ones treated me like a leper. Argh it drove me crazy!!!

There must be a fair number of wealthy JW's who regularly contribute big $$ to the org, because I think the R&F generally don't give very much. I sure didn't. I've heard stories about how they gather like vultures when they get wind that brother or sister old-timer is in failing health ("you have made provisions in your will to support Jehovah's earthly interests, haven't you Brother X?")

Torturing myself with 'meaning-of-life' questions has become a favourite (British spelling for HS and others ) activity of mine lately. I read a book a few months ago by a Catholic writer name Peter Kreeft titled Making Sense of Suffering. I enjoyed some aspects of it, but of course it didn't totally answer the question, what possibly could? His take seemed to be, that no learning, no beauty, no wisdom comes without suffering first. He also likened God's relationship to our suffering to a horse trainer's "breaking" of a wild horse, that this is what God is doing with us, taming our wild souls with suffering.
I agree with Hobbes, that men are motivated by self-interest. But as Hillary hinted, although the fittest do survive, you can get really brutal with that kind of thinking. I think that life has a deeper meaning than survival, though that meaning is still pretty cloudy to me, and probably always will be.
HS, I'm anxious to hear more of your views on this.
