  been trying to involve myself in some different activities, now that i have some time on my hands, being de-towered and all.

  on sundays i've been playing soccer in an over-30 recreational league in town.. during a game last sunday, i was going after a guy who had the ball.

  he passed it to a guy who was behind me.

  She's healing just fine, thanks for your concern. I was lucky the ball didn't hit me straight in the face, it most certainly would have broken my nose.

  Soccer, or football, is a great sport. It seems like it has become one of the most, if not THE most popular recreational sport in the U.S. But for some reason it just can't seem to catch on here as a spectator sport. About 10 years ago a professional league was formed (MLS) - but they have yet to turn a profit. The Columbus (Ohio) Crew is one of the teams, I love going and watching them play. One of the players, Brian McBride, is being recruited by European teams. He is an excellent player, but he gets injured a lot.

  As far as my coworker goes, she works in a different department than I do, so it is only on rare occasions that we need to communicate about any work related matters. In those cases she does speak to me. And she really lights up on those occasions, she is a nice person, but totally towered, she would be absolutely lost outside of JW-World.

  During a game last Sunday, I was going after a guy who had the ball. He passed it to a guy who was behind me. As I was turning around to carry on in my pursuit, I was absolutely SLAMMED in the side of the head by the ball. I mean this guy launched a rocket shot at me from point blank range. People who saw it were ready to run to their cell-phone and call 911. They were surprised that it didn't knock me unconscious. My wearing glasses did not help matters, as the impact forced my glasses up against my eye, creating a small cut. I also have a bit of a shiner (bruised eye).

  Well, today at work, I walk past a JW coworker who I was formerly friendly with, but of course she is shunning me now. She sees my eye, and makes a face. I know she wanted to ask me what happened, but she caught herself and carried on with what she was doing. I would have been more than glad to tell her the story without any vile apostate ranting thrown in.

  Isn't it weird how JW's are prevented from having normal human interactions, in the name of loyalty? What an absolutely kook religious org. God I'm so glad I'm not a P.O.W. anymore.

  i have been smoking off and on for over a year,,,,,,,never smoked before this year in my life.. it all started just for the hell of it.

  then as my hub and i started going out dancing and hitting the town, cig smoke was everywhere.

  i would comehome with it in my hair and all over my clothes.

  I have been smoking on and off about since about a year before I left the borg. I had smoked prior to JW, but I had quit about a year before my first JW contact, so it wasn't an issue.

  I have been smoking regularly for the past 3 weeks or so. It's always that first one that gets me. I enjoy the taste of cigarettes, and the nicotine is pleasurable also. Nothing goes with a beer like a cigarette.

  I plan on quitting Saturday. Don't laugh, I've quit before and stayed off them for years at a time. When you boil it down, they are a huge waste of money. And when I see folks in their 40's, 50's, 60's, and they have that "been smoking since they were a teenager" look about them, and the hacking cough/raspy voice that is the inevitable fate of a long-time smoker, no way do I want that.

  I read 1984 a couple of years before I left. Ugh, my brain was so atrophied by that time that I didn't see many of the obvious parallels. Except the last paragraph stuck with me for some reason:

  He gazed up at the enormous face. Forty years it had taken him to learn what kind of smile was hidden beneath the dark moustache. O cruel, needless misunderstanding! O stubborn, self-willed exile from the loving breast! Two gin-scented tears trickled down the sides of his nose. But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother.

  I spent so many years in the org trying to "get it right". I kept waiting for the day when my deep feelings of unease about JWism would go away, and I would "gain the victory over myself" and become a real, bonafide JW, fearlessly proclaiming the message far and wide. Kinda like Winston's final mindless surrender to Big Bro. That parallel wasn't lost on me.

  newest JW video?

  i"ll start by telling you that i was over at my brother in-laws house the other day with my husband.

  while there my four year old niece was showing me her new disney video.

  my sister in-law turned to my niece and said " sarah , why don't you tell your aunt about the scary video you saw the other day.

  I believe the new video is based on the 2001 DC drama, which was based on the Biblical account of Korah, Nadab and Abiram's rebellion (with generous helpings of self-serving artistic license on the part of WT). The drama was all about submitting to Jerhover's earthly representatives(tm) - OR DIE!!!!!!!!! The drama had the usual "veiled threat" Watchtower flavor. The drama made me ill, I was literally squirming in my seat. It was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. I find it hilarious that they decided that this drama was so great that it deserved a full-blown video production. What a bunch of losers.

  when you were getting fed up with meetings before you gave up, was there anything you did to deliberately get on the brothers nerves?.

  i turned up to a meeting once with jeans on, and a red top with cccp on it with the 'hammer and sickle'.

  i also went to another bs group a few times so that if i wasnt at one group they'd think i was at the other and vice versa.

  Will God intervine?

  or is this life on earth only a testing or proving ground for an eternal life elsewhere?

  as jw's we were taught that god will intervine in the world and bring the earth to a unified state under a theocratic government.

  so, is man capable of maintaining the earth without intervention from a "higher source"?

  As far as the thread topic is concerned, I don't believe that the Deity is going to intervene in human affairs. I could be wrong though. Who knows?
