for what it's worth, here are my memories and how it was explained to me.. late in 1968 my parents decided to have me because, like many other jws, they thought that i would never have to deal with the world or go to school.
they carefully planned to have me during the year of 1970 because they didn't want to go through armagedon with an infant, so they figured if i was 5 years old, i would be old enough to run, feed myself, and at least know enough to take shelter from the elements or hide.
Lady Zombie, that's very interesting. In Australia, rather than getting into debt, it was more common to see JWs selling their home to live in a caravan and pioneer until the "end of the system."
It was also frowned upon to continue schooling after the age of 15 (when you could legally leave school).
driving for miles between houses...sometimes i would lose a hub-cap and have to go back "hubcap hunting.

Yes, also in South Australia. We'd spend more time checking out derelict houses than talking to people.

If you've got the Watchtower Library CD (most current JWs would have it), do a search on '1975'. Check the references from Watchtower mags pre 1974 - you will find quite a lot still on there.
from reading reports on jwd it seems that many are in the process of quietly leaving the watchtower organization.. it's almost become disease like - and spreading rapidly, even acutely in lands where access to information is greater.. people who i've known for years have suddenly disappeared - it reads like a stephen king novel.. what have you noticed?.
I'd been contacted all of a sudden by three or four people who were in the process of leaving or had recently left.

i have been fading for years now and attend meetings very rarely these days.
but something happened recently to make me think about going regularly again.
a couple have returned to my congregation who used to be special pioneers here twenty years ago.
We asked them to come over and visit us next week and I am looking forward to it.
It will be interesting to read how the visit goes. Will you bring up any issues?

i was browsing another post where wtwizard implied membership in another group, and was asked what it was.
that got me thinking...since coming out the society, has anyone embraced another organized religion or group, public or secret?
if so, what is it, and what made you join and continue membership?
We are a support group that meet without an agenda at a restaurant
once a month.
That would be nice!

i have just heard from my friends back home that after many years of trying, australia has finally taken over the us as the fattest nation on the planet!!

considering we get one gold medal at the olympics per1,186 population and the us gets only 1 gold per 8,487, we are use to coming in on top of the us but this is one comp we dont want to win.
That's shocking! I think people have lost the art of simple home cooked meals and are going for the fatty takeaway most of the time.
