I wonder if they'll try and tell you that the WTS never put anything in print about 1975 (ie that it was just speculation by individual witnesses)? I was very annoyed when told this recently - by an elder.

number of remnant missing
by headmath inthe years 1931 to 1934 are important years as this is when the number of remnant peaked.
i have looked high and low on the net and there is no data for those years.. many think that 1935 was when the number of remnant peaked .
i don't think so, here is why.. quote from the babylon the great has fallen book.

Under_believer, believe it or not, these things are important to some who are only just discovering that it's "made-up nonsense." In fact this is exactly the kind of discussion that can get people thinking.

Broken, I agree they may be looking to disfellowship her. Great that you're not giving them any help in that regard!

You and your ex are so young to have to deal with these matters. Your ex probably feels very vulnerable, being pregnant, and couldn't see herself getting through it without the support of her parents. She probably still believes that it's "the truth" so she has to submit to the JCs and pretend to live her life accordingly. If she still smokes, it's only a matter of time before she's "in trouble" again - unfortunately for her. JCs are awful - and so is the guilt you live with afterwards.
Broken, give yourself some time to come to terms with things and gain some peace of mind. Hope you have some family who will support you, if not then some good friends.
Stay in touch - there's lots of support to be found on this board.

When you were a JW true believer, what were you most afraid of?
by under_believer init's been pretty well established that all religions use fear as a motivator, to some degree.
the jw's have honed this practice to a near art form.
what were you most afraid of when you were a jw?

Being tortured, or worse - having to watch family members being tortured. I still can't watch torture scenes in movies.

The bomb scare - Convention
by KW13 inone of the worst things that a lot of people are scared of, is terrorism.
its an invisible enemy, to be honest i've stopped watching the news since it just got me down.. at a convention at the manchester evening news arena (used to be nynex arena) in manchester, there was a briefcase found.
no one claimed it and in the end it was thought to be a possible bomb.

I was at an international convention in Sydney in about 1973 where there was a bomb hoax. There were about 30,000 people and we were all evacuated to an area outside the stadium. Everyone was calm. No-one was scared in those days because we were about to go through Armageddon (1975, remember?). It was even rumoured by some elders' wives that Armageddon may start during the convention so the bomb hoax seemed very timely.

Looking for some insight on why some people here do this
by free2beme ini left the witness religion in 1997, and when i left i never turned back and do not even own or read any of their publications.
i know it is wrong, beyond all doubt, so why waste my time at their meetings, conventions or assemblies.
why read information that is known to be bias, hurtful and not very well thought out?

I don't go to meetings but I browse through the publications so I'm prepared for the comments I get from family.

My spiritual journey
by marked ini posted the following on a rock band forum today.
the band in question are (more accurately, "were") a group heavily influenced by paganism, lyrically and instrumentally.

Letter to family - first draft
by sass_my_frass inafter a few weeks of being very angry with everybody, making an ass of myself, and being rotten company, a few people told me to start sorting this hurt and anger out, and an effective way is to direct it to the people who caused it - the people who shun me.
so i might send them this, or some version of this, in a while.
in october we're going to the other side of the country where they all live, to see my darling nan and maybe close things with the witnesses for good.

Sass that's a good letter. It speaks to the heart. I think it's good that they know how much they've hurt you. I think JWs who follow through with their shunning have no idea what it does to a person.
Even if you don't give them the letter, just writing it might have helped you.
