  I Saw Some JWs Last Night & They Gave Me The Cold Shoulder Like I Was Df'd

  i saw him, his wife and kids coming from a basketball game, going on the train.

  he looked right at me, i said, "hi!

  " and he put his eyes and head downward as if he couldn't say hello.

  Hi Min

  Seeing you are not DS'd or DA'd, you can still associate with your family (at least I believe that is your situation). Having been an elder, you knew all the rules and were able to "get out" with less consequences than others.

  You caused this family grief. You were one of those elders who did that to people who weren't as "JW-street smart" as you.

  OK, we forgive you because you were brainwashed too.

  HOWEVER, you now have the opportunity to apologise to this man. Obviously he is going to be traumatised everytime he sees you (JCs do that to people). So something in writing would be the kind thing.

  Just my view.

  Do elders 'frighten' you?

  i put 'frighten' in quote marks because i'm not sure that's exactly the word i'm looking for.

  i've been away from the borg for 10 years now, and it doesn't bother me these days when i'm called on by jws - most of whom i know as i'm living in the same area still.

  i can quite happily stand up for myself to them - although i have to be a little careful what i say as i was a fader and never df'd.

  There was one elder who I was particularly scared of. He always tried to set up appointments with me to go from door to door (this was after I stopped engaging in that useless activity but I was still attending meetings).

  Recently I bumped into him while shopping and for some reason I found I wasn't scared at all. He asked me how I was (fine). And how are you spiritually (yes he couldn't resist). I said, "Not quite the way you'd like to see it but I'm fine."

  I think being in a shopping centre helped - after all, what could he do to me? And he's never going to trap me in a KH or worse, group study (that claustrophobic little room).

  The "Fade" - Evaluating A New Phenomenon

  to what extent has the growth of the "fade" been facilitated by internet forums such as this?

  sure there were people who chose to fade in the pre-internet era, simply by withdrawing themselves, gradually involving themselves with non-witnesses to a greater extent, or getting in touch with other ex-witnesses covertly through the convention system/telephone and mailing support network that used to be more important before the advent of the internet.

  so the "fade" is not an invention of the internet era, not en entirely "new phenomenon".

  Hi erandir and welcome to JWD!

  No, you don't have to disassociate. Fading is more difficult if someone in the household is still going to meetings (because it's harder to move on, make new friends, start celebrating, etc). However, if you are prepared to just live a quiet life, don't voice your opinions and don't break any of the JW rules, you should be able to avoid disfellowshipping. Fading makes life easier for continued association with loved ones.

  Unfortunately my father has already told me that no matter what when I die I'm getting a witness burial.

  Tyrone, that's awful! Your father is a control freak (well, no different to the rest of them). Don't worry too much that you're not celebrating anything yet - that will come when you are ready. I'm only just starting to celebrate birthdays and I still have a fear that my JW family will find out. But I am progressing.

  Yes, it's a big trap that we're in!!

  "However, the facts of history in fulfillment of this reliable Bible prophecy identify primarily today the Soviet Union as the final "king of the north" and primarily the opposing Anglo-American combine as the last "king of the south." Yes, the prophecy touches our lives!"

  After that, the "light got brighter" and they didn't know who the "king of the north" was.

  the mail concerned the child abuse issue, quoted the nytimes article alleging 24k recorded abusers, child abuse policy & some other things child abuse things that elude my mind.

  today at the weekly watchtower brainwashing.

  You are right when you talk about the absence of genuine love. You may find this out even more when you say what you really think. Don't worry about helping others see the truth about "the truth." They are capable of doing their own research like you have. If they can't do that, then nothing you say will persuade them (many of us have tried, without success).
