That's sad. Hopefully they got the pain management right.

Urgent: Moral guidance required
by sass_my_frass inlong story short: my nan, mum's mum (mum's a jw), has two living sisters, aunty a and aunty j; none of them are witnesses and don't like jws very much.
they're all in their eighties.
my nan lives in the state i grew up in but my (great) aunts live in the state i live in now and are visiting my nan.

Graves of loved ones - JWs allowed to visit?
by Inquisitor inthis is not a question about attending funerals.
is it permissible for jws to visit the graves of their loved ones if they merely want a moment's reflection on the departed?.
is it permissible for jws to do this on the anniversary of the death?.

I had a conversation with some relatives about this topic (very dedicated JWs). They brought up several examples of JWs they know, who visit graves of loved ones. One is an elder. They also said they would like to visit the grave of someone in the congregation who died and whose family have all moved away.

Jehovah's Witness here.
by nimzo ini have a question about my religion.
when people turn apostate, why do they seem kinda... weird.
they turn back to false teachings and their bible knowledge even proves that.

Hi nimzo, welcome to JWD. Have you grown up as a Jehovah's Witness? Usually what we've grown up with sounds normal to us. Anything else will sound unfamiliar or strange. That's why people usually stay with the religion of their family.
Many of us who leave don't take on the beliefs of any other religion.
I am one of those - and I agree, most "religious" arguments sound ridiculous (to me at least, but I feel everyone is entitled to their opinion).

Saw best jw friend at club...didn't shun me
by tall penguin inback in may i went to a nightclub and ended up seeing one my best jw friends, a friend who refused to say goodbye when i was in the process of disassociating because he was so upset with me.
we'd known each other since we were kids.
our moms were close.

I presume he's about your age, tall penguin. In your 30's - that's when the confusion starts - if you're a questioning person and you've grown up as a JW. I wouldn't want to be that age again. No matter what he's up to, I hope it turns out all right for him.

Dare you have an opinion here?
by James Free ini have noticed that if someone has an opinion that does not go with the flow on this forum they often get insulted and shot down in flames.
i thought this was a discussion forum, but i am sadly dismayed to read so much intolerance of another's opinion.
if you appear to support the jw's in any way, even though people like me may disagree with you, you are entitled to your opinion.

Phew, oompa, I'm glad you added that second post.
I must have missed the intolerance, but I agree - everyone is entitled to their opinion. After all, most of us were JWs in the past.

His wedding was the last jw event I attended.
So where was his wife while all this hugging was going on??
This sounds like someone who is soon to be an ex-JW minus a wife.

I was really close to my granny even though she lived on the other side of the world. I went to visit the relatives a few years after she died but I could not get the JW side of the family to take me to the grave. They didn't give a reason for their reluctance but they took me to lots of other places. I couldn't work it out - it didn't occur to me that it might be frowned upon. Eventually I asked a non-JW relative to take me.
I'm not sure what the Aussie attitude is - we haven't had any deaths in the family locally. I've never heard of any JWs visiting a grave though.

JW Stance On Joining The YMCA
by Justitia Themis ini have been emailing with several jws in my congregation about the osce issue.
i pointed out the hypocrisy of not allowing us to join the ymca, but then having osce ngos.
one sister emailed me that a sister in her congregation just received a letter from the society stating that it is ok for her to to join the y. she needed to join for rehab purposes.

One of the local gyms is run by the YMCA and I know several JWs who go there. This doesn't seem to be a problem in Oz.

What can we learn from the recent upheavals on the board
by Lady Lee ini had this this in my head and even had it typed out but didn't post it but i see some still need to talk about the trevor saga on the board.. i was reading some of the initial threads where many people posted how they felt about what trevor had done.
people used the words; anger, shock, disbelief, hurt, sickened, duped, suckered, creeped out, confused, stupid, and betrayed.. given the situation those are all perfectly normal responses.
it isn't easy when we find out we have been lied to.

One of the contributing factors was that we are just not familiar with this type of fraud.
At the time that "Linda" died, I related the whole story to someone I know who is involved in the computer industry. The first thing he said was, "Are you sure it's real?" I was just staggered at this response and tried to defend myself. But apparently it's very common and usually includes dramatic events at times of possible exposure.
