the last talk at the convention was about serving loyally with jehovah's spirit-directed organization.

i had such a hard time sitting through it.

even last year i actually enjoyed it.

It amazes me that they survive with the Armegeddon scare and the constantly moving generation doctrine for close to 160 years now....mind control is an amazing thing.

Need Some Help With References Regarding Education, etc

i have a young friend who is deciding weather or not to go to a fully paid college, or work full time at a dead end job.

all the witnesses of course are discouraging school.

anyway, i want to find as many references as i can in the old literature in the 20's-70's that discourage education because the time left is "reduced" or the ones that even go so far as to say the end is a few months or years away.

what really does the watchtower provide to its followers?.

they take (and really demand) people's time, energy, and resources.

I always remember my parents telling me that in order to appreciate something, I would have to work for it....I sort of see this mentality with the WTS and salvation!!!

What Do You Like Least About The JW Religion?

for me, i think it's that they are 100% intolerant.

even if they are espousing an erroneous view and it is pointed out to them why they are incorrect, you would be "running ahead" if you still did not support the error until they state that a change in viewpoint has been made!

The control of the Borg over the members, the almost celebratory nature of looking at bad world events and the condemnation of others to make themselves look good, rather than pointing out the positives of their own org....

Why don't JW's have their own school for young people?

this is something that i have been asked several times and have wondered myself.

it would alleviate all of the uncomfortable situations involved with flag saluting, birthday parties, etc...

I think way too cost prohibitive, the pop density of JWs is not high enough in many areas to make it a viable alternative, plus the needs for accreditation for education through 12th grade is pretty stringent, and the pool of JWs with a college education (in many cases masters degrees required) to be the faculty is not all that deep!!!
