OK, from what I have heard.....
Food service cut out at conventions, shorter meeting times (less use of utilites at the halls), cutting back on Bethelites, moving out of the high cost area of Brooklyn. The moving of printing out of Spain.
calanders cut to half their size...makes it hard to write your time in!
soft cover books replace hard covers, more wear and tear but less cost.
making a seperate watchtower for study saving on printing.

The first of two district conventions for Jehovah's Witnesses in southeastern Virginia starts today at the Hampton Coliseum. This weekend's gathering, which is expected to draw a crowd of 5,500, takes place over three days.
"Typically people come for a day or part of a day," says Jerry Housner, convention overseer. "They're not used to sitting still."
The theme of this year's conventions –– they're repeated over two weekends to accommodate the crowds comfortably –– is "Keep on the Watch." It's taken from a passage in Mark 13:37 in the New Testament, in which Jesus Christ instructed his followers to "keep on the watch." Housner explains that, "It's being aware of what's happening in our world as it relates to Bible prophecy. And imitating Jesus' example of watchfulness, knowing that the end of wickedness on Earth is near."
He emphasizes that the Jehovah's Witnesses message teaches that the end of wicked behavior is near, but not the end of Earth.
The weekend's events, all conducted en masse, include Bible-based discussion, baptism on Saturday morning and a Bible drama enacted Sunday.
Seventy area Witnesses congregations will attend the event, which is open to the public. Housner notes that there is no admission or parking charge, no special seating (apart from accommodation for the disabled), no collection or required donation, and that all the reading materials are free.
"We don't sell anything during the convention –– including food," says Housner, adding that attendees are welcome to bring their own lunches.
The local conventions are among 319 being held nationwide in 81 cities.

my wife is attending the dc today.
i know she will be all dubbed up when she gets home tonight and i was wondering if there are any comments or questions i can ask or is there anything i should be ready to respond to based on her attending.
i know that the theme is "keep on the watch", i have listened to the audio that auntbee so kindly provided and from what it seems to me, they are merely driving home the point that folks need to be more faithful in there service because even though we do not know when the end it, it is so very very close.
Great idea.....non confrontational is quite important, don't need to get her in a preach mode!!!
You are corerct mouthy, when she gets out of any of these events all she can do is point out the bad in what is going on.....even though in my opinion and viewpoint, there are a lot of wonderful things going on as well. Also like the comment about how 'Jehovah can read my heart', for to me faith is a very personal issue between me and whatever I decide to have faith in!

how long does the society or christians say, "man has been on earth?
" according to the bible.. how long does scientist say, "man has existed on earth?
" which can be reasonably proven.. how does the neanderthals fit into the picture of the bible?.
Thanks OTWO, I would have to say I agree with that approach, with just a little research one is able to see that the stories in the bible are often times not unique to the Bible. It should be looked at as a wonderful teaching novel, not a factual scientific text book!!!
i don't feel i have to know the truth about how life started or where we're coming from etc, but can't help thinking abt it anyway now and then.
guess it's only natural.. right now i feel really clueless and that i have too little knowledge abt the darwin, big bang theory.... (i was always taught by the dubs that darwin questioned his own theory...but was it really so?)..
i have a close friend who's sure of the evolution but can really the complex and wonderful life and nature come abt by chance (even though he says it's not chance...).
I do not know a lot about this subject, but what I do know is there is more than enough scientific evidence to debunk that roughly 6000 years ago a man was created and put in a paradise and after time one of his ribs was taken to create a woman. Yes, maybe at one time there was a creation of something, but not in a garden of eden 6000 years ago....
july 2009 awake: "why am i afraid to share my faith?
" this article assumes that jehovah's witness children are ashamed of their faith!.
it says "define your fears" and "accept the challenge".
Yep, why be ashamed, YPA Vol I tells a kid not to hold hands, embrace or kiss until they find a person they intend to marry, no proms or dances, I guess marching band is out since you could not play the national anthem of what ever country you are in, excusing oneself from birthday celebrations, not being able to go to the Y.........sure sounds like a normal teen life to me.........

This is quite interesting.......does the society provide any defense when these scientific facts are posted to thier position that Adam was created in what was it, 4026 BCE??? Or do they just state that carbon dating and all the modern tools are inaccurate?
the following notes on fred franz's conducting of the morning bible discussion [17 november 1979] were taken by a bethelite and later given to ray franz:.
some persons are now talking about reading the bible, that we should read "just the bible.
" well, that's what christendom's churches have been telling the people to do for centuries and look at the mess that's resulted.
Each pres had his own twist on the porpoise of the org
I guess when there was an identified president, the focus was a bit more clear, seems like they have a GB right now with in essence no direction, seem very reactionary to me. About the only focus they seem to have in on glorifying themselves, the July Watchtower and the DC release on Acts both seem to all but deify the Governing Body...
