Excellent job OTWO! I agree it's definately autobiographical. More appropriate title should be "Do the GB/WTS do your thinking for you?", with the subheading "Tricks of the GB/WTS".

"Hey buddy, can you spare a dime?"
by gumb in"hey buddy, can you spare a dime?".
we can all help make the world a better place to live in without even involving our purse/wallet, and requiring only a tiny amount of time.
these 'dime time' acts of kindness to our fellow human beings can help reduce stress in others and therefore contribute to a happier world.

Giving up the last slice of pizza or homemade chocolate chip cookie when you didn't even get one. Holding doors open with a smile---whatever happened to this simple courtesy? And if someone does hold a door open, a pleasant "thank you" with a smile goes a long way to making someone feel good. Loading bags of groceries into an elderly person's vehicle. Smiling to all those you come in contact with or pass by and using simple manners contributes to happier people. Take notice to those around you wherever you are. Perhaps you'll notice someone who's calling out "hey buddy, can you spare a dime?" You'll be a happier person because you observed them and said "yes I can".

This topic reminded me of something I came across the other day on the web. It's a boyfriends public revenge on a cheating girlfriend that happened live on the radio. Pretty ruthless stuff if you as me.
I listened to the link above Drew provided. Boy, was that ever a harse thing to do to someone especially over the radio! Talk about revenge....sheesh.
Anyway, depending on the circumstances I think I could forgive.

Ex JWs that suffered to an unusual degree
by greendawn indo you know of ex jws that suffered greatly due to the policies of the wts?
i personally don't know any but i suppose those that left behind parents, spouse and children got a very bad deal since the wts dictates shunning from all these.
also those that lost relatives to the blood policy.

Hello!!!!!!!!! Like many ex-JW born and raised in borg and left I suffered a lot. To start with, when I was 12 my JW mother left my elder father for an elder in our KH. My parents divorced and I was raised by my JW father. I was basically forced to shun my mother who was DF'd for adultry. I grew up listening to all the gossip about her from my JW family and all the other witnesses that knew her. I was estranged from my own mother for years because of their stupid shunning policy and I will never forgive them for that. Because of the mental torment the JWs put my mother through she suffered several nervous breakdowns and became addicted to prescription drugs. Just when I got old enough to reestablish a relationship with her, she ended up in liver failure due to excessive drug use and died. Now that I've DA'd myself my father is shunning me. I took this so hard I ended up in the hospital for a week. Now I'm focusing on what I do have--my husband and my three kids. I love them and they love me. It's very difficult to shake the extremely bitter feelings I have. I am having a really hard time getting over it and if anyone has any suggestions on how to do this please share with the rest of us.

Has anyone seen the Noah's Ark video? This was the worst production ever. Poorly drawn figures attached to what appeared to be popsicle sticks hopping around the screen. Our family laughed throughout the entire film. Can anyone explain why this video was allowed to be released?
I'll make sure to find (since I don't have any) some WTs and Awakes to flip through to find my next hairstyle. A real stylin' doo for sure!
Welcome slmdf.

Undisclosed Revelation Book Changes show "Jehovah" is "The Lamb"
by AlphaOmega inas we all know, in 2006 there were some undisclosed changes to the 1988 revelation climax book.. these scans of page 127 (chapter 20) are identical except for the alteration from "the lamb" to "jehovah".. http://i15.tinypic.com/2qvzgya.jpg.
http://i17.tinypic.com/2nukpd0.jpg.
since this change was not listed in the september 2006 kingdom ministry, are we to conclude that it is not "a key change" and the alteration is merely semantics?

Great find! Thanks for sharing. One can only guess why it wasn't included as a change in the the '06 KM. Sneaky ol' farts. Someone should call the NY and ask which one is it--Jehovah or Jesus? Do they know, or is this "new light"?

Help! Elders are after me-need advice!
by love2Bworldly inhi--3 times this weekend 2 elders came to my door asking for me by name (my kids answered the door).
apparently my jw sister notified the elders about the letter she received from me several months ago and gave them my new address.
my letter was very clear about how i felt about the watchtower society and i have not stepped foot in a kingdom hall in about 15 years, and the last 8 years of that was sporadic at best.. why should i talk to people i did not invite to my home, when i know they are coming to condemn me?

I'm more worried they would get the wrong impression of me if I get all emotional and angry, I am very happy with my life and I don't want them thinking I'm a whacko apostate.
I completely understand how you feel. However, emotional and angry is exactly the response they are looking for. Remember, JWs think those who leave the borg are all unhappy and and angry people. You can find all types of quotes like this in the literature. So show them what a happy person you truly are. Blindside them with the kindness they aren't expecting. Be the bigger person. Afterall, you've made a happy life for yourself so flaunt it! These JW elders are just puppets. They don't really have a life except what is outlined to them by the WT. Keep us up to date. Hope all goes well with you. My advice is to get it over with soon--you'll feel better as this won't be weighing on you. Hugs

First Post
by Rethinking infirst time posting, long time lurking.. came upon this site on accident a few years ago and dismissed it as a site for disgruntled people; however, in the past months i actively searched for it as it stuck in my mind.
believe it or not, i practically read all of the topics.
i felt, wow, i wasn't alone in my thinking and feelings about some things.. it all started years ago in my last year in high school and then into college.

Specific banned shows, songs, etc...?
by AllAlongTheWatchtower ini know the society tells people not to listen to rock n roll cause its from teh satan, not to watch r rated movies because they're "worldly", etc.
but i was wondering if folks had any specific instances where one song, one show, one movie, or whatever was singled out as being particularly 'evil', and banned on an individual basis?
i was never a jw, but was in the worldwide church of god...the two are rather similar, i've seen many (and made quite a few myself) comparisons on the board; and i can remember as a child that every once in a while certain things would get brought up as being more evil and worldly than others.. examples of specific bans:.

we should open a thread about urban legends of JW's as I heard exactly the same story about Zucchero that asked that all JW's had to leave the concert (otherwise the demons would not help him...)
OMG, I heard the same story about a John Denver concert! My dad threw away my Pink Floyd album "The Wall" because of the pictures and my Eagles album "Hotel California". Then when he couldn't break it in half across his knee he was convinced it was demonized or something. Also, rumors went around our KH about Simon and Garfunkel's lyrics especially "Bridge Over Troubled Water". "Band on the Run" by Paul McCartney was bad too, but I can't remember why.
As a kid my dad wouldn't let me go see Star Wars when it first came out...way back. We had to walk out of the movie Raiders of the Lost Ark. I wasn't allowed to go to any concerts because that was way too worldly and that isn't the type of environment a "christian" would want to find themself in. Also, I wasn't allowed to watch Planet of the Apes, Star Trek, etc.
As my children were growing up, standards in our KH then were no Smurfs or Ninja Turtles. Toys like "trolls" were also no-nos. Some JW parents I knew in our hall wouldn't allow their children to play bingo games in their classrooms or learn about the olympic's history. Some wouldn't even tell their children their birthdates so they wouldn't be tempted. I always thought these parents were way tooooooo extreme. Come on, your birthday is a vital statistic afterall.
How trivial this all seems now. Thank goodness I don't have to worry about these things any more. I'm FREE!! I'll go watch a R-rated movie if I darn well want to and listen to my AC/DC cd on the way to the theatre as I smoke my cigarette.
