my mom called last night to tell me he passed on sunday.
he died peacefully and fairly painlessly.
my mom said she was talking with him, went to answer the phone, and 5 minutes later he was gone.

is it evil to wish someone dead??.
even if they are not a bad person but................ will karma pay me back?.
yes this is all about me.....................................will i be paid back for wishing?.
Vitty
To wish someone dead is a harsh thing IMO.....but...... there have been people in my life about whom i've said, "i couldn't care if they dropped dead tomorrow". I didn't WISH them dead, just cared about them soooo little that if they had died, i couldn't have given a shit.
I do appreciate being totally purple with rage about seriously bad things that people do though.

Hello Brenda
I'm sorry for your loss sweet but you also sound slightly indifferent about your dads death. A massive barrier has been between you for some time and it's natural to feel detached.
My dad died about 2 months ago but i cried not one tear......didn't know the guy. He was never interested in me....ever.
Hope all goes well for you.

.
i'm very new to this and please understand, but at one time or another most everyone here was a loyal and faithful witness.. if you disapproove of it or don't fit in as i don't.
why keep pounding at them it is like an obsession.. i would really like to know.
Hello Hambeak
Some people have suffered more than others, REALLY suffered as i'm sure you're aware. Different people deal with this in differing ways and from one day to the next they might be cool and then something triggers a tirade of anger. The WTS tries to hide behind a veil, a holy curtain but many, many people here know that it's an organisation that's as corrupt as any other religion that they constantly decried.
I'm not all that sure why you've asked the question actually. Surely you can see the answer?!?
Stay around Hambeak!

it is little wonder that many ask, why does god allow such suffering?
comfort for those who suffer.
comfort for those who suffer.
Hello Dansk
Your comment above about the gas chambers made me think of an interview that took place with a Jewish survivor of the 'death camps' that was broadcast o Radio 4 a while back. He said of god......'MENE, MENE, TEKEL and PARSIN, god has been weighed in the balance and found wanting'. An apt reversal of scriptural denunciation.

Briliant sound reasonings Norm!!
The more we look into it with a serious, critical but open mind, the more it makes no sense whatsoever.
The whole garden of Eden thing is preposterous, utterly false! A truly sick tale.....original SIN??? That's SICK!! WE are never good enough according to that premise. If our human father or mother constantly reminded us that we never 'met the mark', that we never did things that were truly good enough, then those parents would be classed as psycological abusers. It's a cruel story to keep us in psycological chains... but thankfully, i am emancipated from from this disgusting bile!
Norm, you've put into words many things that i think about a great deal.
Peace and Cheers

he singles out christianity, but so many belief systems have the same problem...
"christianity has a built-in defense system: anything that questions a belief, no matter how logical the argument is, is the work of satan by the very fact that it makes you question a belief.
it's a very interesting defense mechanism, and the only way to get by it and believe me, i was raised southern baptist is to take massive amounts of mushrooms, sit in a field and just go, 'show me.'".
Genius!!
Hicks was a very clever man and this quote just goes to prove it.
Nice one mate.

just wondering if you still abstain from celebrating christmas birthdays etc or if you do celebrate them how long did it take to feel comfy with doing it after you'd left the jws?i'm fading at the moment but although me and hubby have talked about spending xmas with our nonjw families and i told him i was going to start sending bday cards to my family, the thought of it scares me like its a big huge sin.does it ever feel natural to celebrate holidays?i used to love all that sort of thing before i was a witness but when my mum and stepdad wished me happy bday last month it felt really odd and i was uneasy.i find it v confusing cos i can sort of see that jesus wasn't born in dec. but maybe he can have 2 bdays like the queen!also not being able to send fathers day cards this year was the final straw for me i felt so bad about it so i have lots of making up to do but just hope i can enjoy it all without feeling bad.
i know they say some bday things have pagan origins but there are things jws can have or do that also are pagan.wedding rings for example.thanks
I don't really GET Christmas and i have no desire at all to celebrate the birth of an ancient jewish bloke who i don't agree with anymore.
Being a witness for 15 years may have affected my attitude towards Crimbotime but i'm afraid i just see it as one big commecial con nowadays, as many people do.
Easter? Nope.
Birthdays? Celebrating my 40th this weekend with a big party. I've accomplished alot in my life and i think i deserve a big 'pat on the back'. I won't subscribe to the 'self-hating' JW lifestyle anymore.
Party on people....

what things happened at your meetings that annoyed you?.
was it at a hall ya visited?
did it happen more than once?.
The brutality of some parents towards their children. Not just the smackings that happened for the most ridiculous reasons but the cruel mind games some used to play. Ooooh dear what a truly warped bunch they are.
My ex was relating to me the other day how she remembered one young father smacking his 3 WEEK old son for crying and saying "Now you know Jehovah thinks you're naughty for crying don't you?". Sooo much abuse goes on.
