This is a letter to the Editor of the Sunday Star-Ledger here in NJ a few weeks ago (October 2006):
“Shoe on the other foot"
"One wonders what Mexico’s government and citizens would say, think and do if
20 million Americans illegally invaded Mexico and expected the government to:
Provide free medical care;
Supply them with free education and automatic Mexican citizenship for their children;
Require bilingual interpreters at all hospitals and courts;
Insist on bilingual government forms;
Demand that Mexico accept American IDs;
Provide Americans with sanctuary cities, ignoring our multiple lawbreaking and
allowing us to remain free from arrest;
Expect Mexicans to learn English so we wouldn’t have to learn Spanish;
Fly the U.S. flag from our homes and cars;
Insist on courses in American culture at schools;
Demand driver’s licenses and college tuition;
Balkanize Mexico’s cities and towns;
Insist that police speak to us in English and require them to hire American bilingual
officers who are culturally acceptable;
and Permit the American government to have 47 consulates in Mexico to subversively
serve American illegal aliens.”
~Sue
P.S.: I wasn't the writer, but I wonder, too, what would happen if the shoe was on the other foot?

The Early Christians, In Their Own Words
Edited by Eberhard Arnold
The Early Christians is a topically arranged collection of primary sources. It includes extra-biblical sayings of Jesus
and excerpts from Origen, Tertullian, Polycarp, Clement of Alexandria, Justin, Irenaeus, and others. Equally revealing
material from pagan contemporaries -- critics, detractors and persecutors -- is included as well.

***Maybe we'll all be judged on our best day and everyone of us will one day be friends.***
Abandoned, that's the Christ-like attitude that was so sorely missing in the JW congregation. Can I quote you a year or even 10 years from now? This thought (hope) is timeless.

This discussion board is just the medicine I needed
by Backed away ina big thank you to those who created this board and for all the amazing people who post here.. truth be told (no pun intended) i have seen other religious boards out there but never felt compelled to join since i didn't feel qualified to speak one way or the other regarding their beliefs.
this board is another story.
i was raised as a witness but never thought so many people all over the world had a similiar past as i did.

My Mom Is Told To Not Take Food From My Ex Because She's "Disfellowshipped"
by minimus inmy mother told my aunt than my ex recently brought her some delicious food when she got out of the hospital.
my aunt immediately cautioned her to not take anything from her or socialize with her since she is "disfellowsipped".
my mom asked her who told her such a thing and she said, "well, you know you shouldn't have anything to do with her.

Your ex serves "delicious food."
Your aunt serves words of rebuke.
Regardless of either one's standing at the Kingdom Hall, which
act of kindness made a greater healing effect for your mom?
Just my 2 cents. Hope your mom feels better.

by roflcopter inso my wife just got a job at a huge company where a witness friend works.

How about public transportation? The Witness woman would be commuting to work with lots of lecherous men (maybe even lesbians) who could be chatting her up at the bus top, or sitting next to her on the train. What then? Orgies?
Seems they are saying women are safer riding with a variety of worldlies, than with just one dedicated servant of Jah. A young girl (I was one once) walking home alone is in a FAR more dangerous situation than accepting a ride with one of the brothers. It's revealing that a young girl's personal safety, her very life, is worth nothing to those elders.
roflcopter: You could inform the elders that you must now deduct $$$ from your regular donations to the Kingdom Hall/Wordwide Work to cover this burdensome extra fuel expense, wear-and-tear on tires, increased frequency of oil changes, etc.
Also, your car insurance premium may increase with added commuting mileage/time on the road. Would they kindly write a letter to your insurance carrier that it's necessary to prevent your wife from engaging in extramarital sex to and from her place of employment?
Oh, and now that you must get to sleep extra-early, to get up extra-early, and the both of you get home so very late now, you will no longer be able to attend evening meetings.
Is this the "yoke that is light" that Jesus spoke of?

Lil,
A few years before my study of SIS, my "fleshly" sister took a college course where she learned about Russell.
She told me he was a Millerite, an Adventist, and used the pyramid to come up with 1914, the sacred date of our youth.
I completely shut her down! "See, that's worldly knowledge, all lies from opposers. What did we learn in the Kingdom Hall...
Jesus said we'd be persecuted. We have the TRUTH."
No sense arguing with good little Susie-knows-it-all smarty-pants.
We never discussed it again. She's an agnostic today. I owe her an apology!
Peace to you too.

Who really is the faithful slave?
by Elihu/Elijah inas a ministarial servant i was surprised to find out that, some who had been appointed elders, who i was serving with in 2000 never really believed in god at all.
i was blown away by the fact that a person could have been serving for many years did not really believe in god.
if they did not really believe in god why were they here, and in what did they really believe in?
