Hello DebbieDebbie, are you any kin to PizzaPizza? (Just kidding) I have to agree with Sickoflies (SOL?) what is wrong with you teaching your child yourself? It would be interesting to find out from those "raised in the truth" who they learned more about reliion from, their parents or the schmucks at the KH?

Hello, I'm new here
by debbiedebbie ini left the jw's in 1990 and officially left or at least decided never to return again in 1993. i announced that i'd rather die in armageddon than live with these people.
they don't want to speak to me much anymore.. but i'm concerned because i have a 4 yr old child and i don't want to attend any church.
nothing against those who do.. but should i go for my child even though i will stare into outerspace until its over or is this a worse example than not attending at all?.

Jehovah as Satan - human sacrifice in the Bible
by hallelujah inin the bible there is a human sacrifice of jepthah's daughter as a burnt offering at judges 11:29,11:39, in gratitude for giving jepthah victory in battle.
now the wtbts and others more recently proclaim that this was only a sacrifice of her virginity and that by sacrificing her as a burnt offering what it really meant was that she was forcibly restrained from having marital relations and forced to die a virgin.
do any sisters see any similarity with the injunction to sisters to only marry in the lord???

Both are good questions. As far as Jepthah's daughter (or, for that matter, most "sacrifices" mentioned in the Bible) it always seems like someone else is doing the sacrifice. I'm not sure why someone who has everything would be pleased with someone who has very little giving up everything they had. This is what often makes me truely believe that I am better than God, as I would require a sacrifice whereby those who had lots would have to give to those who didn't have very much, rather than give it to somebody who doesn't need a f'ing thing.
As far as Jesus' sacrifice, here you get into all manners of gobbledegook logic and, ultimately, downright stupidity. The WTS taught that when Adam "sinned", he sacrificed himself to Satan(?), which threw some sort of celestial scales out of balance Thus, it would take the sacrifice of another perfect man for Jehovah to "right" the scales. This is all predicated by the notion that Johovah is perfect and requires perfect justice! (Oh, please, puke, puke, vomit!) Supposedly, it was to prove that a perfect man could withstand temptations and remain "perfect". But Jesus vs. Adam doesn't seem quite apples and apples, so the scales should have been somewhat over-corrected. Further, Adam may not have done what he did just for himself. As I recall, legend has it that there was this beautiful wife, wholly dependent upon Adam, that was part of the deal as well. (God: Here Adam, I give you this wife and she is your flesh and you must love, cherish, and protect her above all else! (Later) What??? You little punk, you chose her over me!?! I'll fix your butt!) Concerning your plea for "innocent blood", remember, according to current wisdom, no human is innocent, so, by "logical" extension your argument is invalid. In the case of Jesus, he was defined as the innocent lamb; but my idea of total innocence would not include volunteering for the job.

'PROPER' dress code for kids at the KH

The Bible says that the real God does not care "about the outer appearance of a man." But, since JWs have nothing to do with the real God, outer appearances have been raised to paramount heights. For me, this is the primary piece of proof that a JW congregation is nothing more than a social club and has absolutely nothing to do with a persons spirituality.

Can questions or opinions presented as such, be lies?
by DavidChristopher ini have been accused many times lately for telling and believing lies.
all i think i am doing is asking questions and letting my opinions be known.

I am assuming that you are speaking of people on this board as opposed to people in general. With this assumption in mind, the answer to your question is that most people on this board either were taught how to think by the WTS, or had their thinking processes altered by the same. Therefore, we tend to look for singular answers, the blinders we had were, in certain aspects comfortable, and still can be, so we use them in our "new" lives. It becomes a WTS version of Political Correctness, where certain words must be avoided, certain lines of thought suspect, and so on. One person on this board made a comment of how he had reacted at simply picking up a cross lying on the ground and how much that reaction bothered him because he had felt that he was "out"; but, we seem to forget that at one time the WTS and its doctrine was THE most important thing in our lives. Even if it was because it was the most important thing in our parents lives. Its hard to get over that. An interesting parallel would be the ex-slaves of the post Civil War era in the US. These people had been property all their lives, and then suddenly, bing, they were "free". To do what? Go to Washington to see "Marse Lincoln", and get their "40 acres and a mule"? It took generations to "get over it". Another good example would be the soldiers who returned from Viet Nam. Because of the F'ed up way the US military thought at the time, it was very, very common for a guy, on monday, to be sweating his ass off in a jungle located almost on the equator, with a squad of bad-assed buddies all armed to the teeth, ready, and willing to kill or be killed at any instant 24/7. Then, by wedensday, this same guy would be out, unemployed, and freezing his ass off in downtown Detroit. Talk about a mind f**k.

As a JW how do/did you feel about 6 billion people being destroyed?
by jwfacts inhow else can a person justify that jehovah will destroy 6 billion people, innocent children included?
i could never accept that i deserved salvation whereas almost no one else did.
it put me on permanent spiritual edge because i thought the slave is right so the doctrine of destruction must be, but my heart always knew it was wrong.

I am curious about this thread. Some particular questions: by what means do you see the death of 6 billion people being accomplished? If they are all killed by "natural" means, how will we know it is from "God"? For example, if some "Captain Tripps" type of bug escapes from some research lab somewhere, will that be blamed on God? If God were to alter, say, the DNA of the common grasshopper to where it breeds 10 time faster and is impervious to all but the most harsh insecticides, how long before the wheat/crops of the central US and Canada (I'm not sure how much wheat is in Australia) are replaced by fat grasshoppers? Would we (could we) see this as comming from God? Isn't it quite possible that for 6 billion of us to be erased that God would not have to do anything? Perhaps the big A is God NOT doing something that he is currently doing?

Tastes like chicken
by peacefulpete inhave we heard the true story?
my exhaustive research has revealed an unthinkable chapter in jesus ministry.....cannibalism.. john 12:2.

I'm morbidly curious. How many of us really want to wake up tomorrow and read a headline, see a "breaking story" on CNN, that we know, without equivocation, means that the "end of this system of things" has started?

Basic Doctrines
by mystified ini have not read the other posts yet.
i'm assuming, before reading, that this an anti-jehovah's witness site.
i would just like to make a couple of points, and would be interested in responses to them.

In answer:
you ramble. Apparently you find it difficult to get to the point. You give no precise idea as to what you are concerned with, what you want to know, or for what purpose you took the time to apply these words to my CRT. In short, you must be a "modern" writer. Try to be a little more succint, to the point, give me the benfit of being stupid. If I didn't know you were a JW, I would probably have guessed it. In 25 words or less, tell us what you want.

Does this make any sense?
by elliej inokay, this is even confusing for me, so please try to bear with me.. i am working on a "presentation" to give to a jw family member to defend myself when the fade comes up.
i want it to be something that will make them think and this is what i have come up with.. this person believes in the whole 1914 chronology bible prophecy crap and can't believe this isn't the truth when they are so right about the date.
but i see a flaw with the way it was calculated and i need input to tell me whether i'm cracked or this might really work- get him to think.. according to the wts, "in prophecy, a year averages 360 days, or 12 months of 30 days each... so the kings "seven times," or seven years, were 360 days multiplied by 7, or 2,520 days.

Its a nice thought. There's been movies (Charles Bronson?) dealing with the solitude of professional killers and so forth. Like the boxing metaphor that Paul used on the Corinthians, the idea is to present it all in ways that the greatest listeners can relate to. Any speaker will do that, if they are good. No comedian does a show in Phoenix doing jokes about Tacoma, at least, not unless they're doing a one nighter, forever. Certainly, being singleminded about anything is a "key" to success, but how many scriptures can you think of that admonishes you to be "patient", or "humble", or "meek and mild"? And how many can you think of that tell you to be fearless, trusting in the unseen, ready to give up your life for an idea?
The problem with the really cool scriptures that might fit any particular situation is that you can always find a half dozen or so to refute them. The purpose of a leader is not to shout orders or emote platitudes, it is to lead. That means to direct in a certain direction, maintain consistency, be cognizant of and uphold morale; but, most of all, to cause a unified movement for a single purpose. The problem with the Bible is not its content, it is the vaccuous nature of those for which it purports to speak.
