Do Unto Others
by SickofLies ina recent pew poll (http://ncronline.org/ncr_online/archives2/2006a/032406/032406h.htm) shows that the religious are more likely to favor torture than the secular.
bill maher referring to guest reza aslan's no god but god (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect?link_code=ur2&tag=onegoodmove-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&path=http%3a%2f%2fwww.amazon.com%2fgp%2fproduct%2f0812971892%2fsr%3d8-1%2fqid%3d1143361264%2fref%3dpd_bbs_1%3f%255fencoding%3dutf8), said he was surprised how liberal and tolerant the prophet muhammad was.
reza explained that in all religions the prophets don't invent the religions, but that "they take the social, and cultural, economic and political milieu they live in and and reshape it they recast it.

Why be afraid of Freedom?
by SickofLies inthere have been a couple of threads started lately (and i'm sure many in the past as well) of dubs ask us apostates what they have since leaving the borg.
most people have responded that they enjoy their freedom, the ability to think independently.
but freedom and independent thinking are shunned by the dubs.. so i ask the question, .

by minimus inthe word's out to invite anyone and everyone-----as this could be the last celebration (per my mother as she heard it at the hall).

i'm thinking about going to the memorial and when the wine gets to me say out loud "One, Two Three and then chug it bottoms up". ; then when the cracker gets to me i'll yell out loud "COOOOOOKIE" like cookie monster and then gooble it up spitting crums everywhere. ; man i just gotta figure out some way to get it on video.
LOL, make sure you post the video on this site so we can all see it.

Okay, you have two of each founder species, and seven of a few species. So, what, a dozen species x 7 means you have 60 'food' animals, everything else is breeding stock.
that is First thing you do is have a Bar-BQ to thank god for killing everyone but you. So, how many animals down are we now? Then god tells you you can eat animals, and the lions start looking at zebras in a completely different way...
Which part of myth don't people get?
Oh my God! Your right it can't be true! No wait, God said it happened so it must be true because God doesn't lie. QED

Well maybe you should just start studing and get baptized and solve the problem that way.... NOT!!
We get a great number of people in your situation on this board. There are many questions to ask yourself live, if we have kids am I ok with them dying because my wife doesn't want them to have blood? Am I ok with my in laws shunning me because I'm not a JW? Would I feel ok if my gf got disfellowshiped and shunned by all her friends and family because of me?
I would suggest you research the witness and present her with the information you find and see if she would be willing to leave and live a normal life with you.

You then brought up the RNA world hypothesis. I think that the "molecular fossils" ;present within cells is definitely evidence that there's something to that hypothesis. But AuldSoul raised a very valid point about just how much more info we lack. How do we get from just autocatalytic strands of RNA to forming the crucial dynamic between information encoded nucleic acid strands and the generation of proteins? What was the first ribosome ;like and how did it come about?
Now like you said: we're here, ;and I agree that to harp on all the things we don't know has limited mileage when it comes to yielding practical benefits. But I personally think acknowledging them can help us ;be ;more open to paradigm shifts.
No doubt, I agree that AuldSoul brought out some very good points, that's why I spent time and wrote a careful reply to the questions. I totally agree that there is much we don't know and that these are very interesting areas of research, I would find science boring if all the answers were already there. There is a good chance we will never be able to answer the questions brought up with 100% accuracy, that’s why I say it isn't a big issue, because we can't go back in time and see what happened. All we can do is create artificial laboratory conditions that may emulate what conditions were like and then study what happens. But even if we were able to evolve a complete civilization this way it's not guaranteed that this is the process that led to our being here. Thus I don't spend much time looking into these kinds of issues as I am doing research into more practical areas of evolution and biology mainly creating viruses to deliver gene therapy to humans.

My Story
by XJW4EVR ini was adopted into a jw family in southern california.
my birth mother gave me up after 6 months (the terms mom & dad refer to my adoptive/real parents).
she gave me up due to the fact that she already had a three year old boy, and back in the late sixties it was not as socially acceptable to be a single mother.

When I first came here it was my first time ever really doing any research on the borg using outside info, and I saw what this place was all about and decided that it would make me feel a lot better if I could finally tell my story to someone. Thats whats great about this place, you have friends here you can talk to without ever getting judged or having to worry about being shunned. I encourage you to finish your story as it will do you a lot of good to get this stuff off your chest.
