I think you should give the book back. The book has been studied, underlined, and has had time and love put into it; you would be showing contempt not just for the WTS (which would be ok) but also for your mother. Of course we would all like to see the book burn, but you burning it isn't going to help her, this would have to be something that would have to come from her.

Iron Maiden rumour
by stapler99 ini wonder if anyone has heard of this, or whether it is completely made up... the story is that iron maiden (the rock band) took pictures from the revelation book and put them on their album covers, and were therefore threatened by the wts lawyer dept., demanding that they sent them the covers to be destroyed.
.
i don't know why im would want to plagarize the smelly revelation book anyway ;-)

Why do elders talk to me and smile, and ordinary JW's shun me?
by JH inif i meet an ordinary jw, most of them will shun me.
if i meet an elder, they will look at me, talk to me, smile and make me feel as if i'm still a brother in good standings.. .
who's in charge here the elders or the ordinary little jw people?.

That is interesting; maybe it is because the elders don't fear that others will look down on them for being "un-spritual" for talking to you as they have strong credentials in that area already . Besides, being rude to you isn't much fun so unless they are very self-righteous they may decide it isn't worth it.

I have found that clearing your history doesn't get rid of the auto-completion feature showing you what you have typed. Guessing that you are using some form of Windows I think you can go into the AutoComplete tab in Internet settings and clear it all there.

Post number 6666
by greendawn inas if three sixes are not bad enough we have here four of them.
i take this opportunity to damn the beast 666 of revelation, strangely enough moses lifted up the copper serpent that symbolised the christ as the future saviour.
yet the serpent is the symbol of the devil so how comes christ came to be associated with it?
-
stapler99
Why are both Christ and the Devil associated with the serpent It's probably just a coincidence, you shouldn't read too much into these things. You can of course make the link between the copper serpent and Jesus being a saviour, but I don't remember this symbolism occuring anywhere else in the Bible.

Remember the Panorama programme on JWs a few years ago? Question
by evergreen inyes, many will remember the panorama programme shown on channel 4 (uk) a few years ago.
the one that highlighted the child abuse scandal and the disgusting manner in which the borg deals with it.
then when the letter was read out to the congregations a week or so later addressing this issue by dismissing the programme by simply saying that two witnesses were needed before a person could make an accusation.

I don't know whether this was just our circuit overseer or whether it was a more general thing but at the next circuit assembly after this was broadcast we were told that such programs were produced by apostates and were not aimed at the general public but were aimed at Jehovah's Witnesses to try and break their faith, and that we would be better off not watching these programmes at all. That's just plain silliness.

This is an odd example of a Witness at my door, any one heard of this?
by free2beme inabout two weeks ago i was in the front yard on a saturday and washing one of the cars.
i looked down the street and saw two woman in dresses walking from house to house, with a young child in a suit.
of course, i knew they were witnesses and i knew they would be at my door soon.

I've heard of similar things happening in Britain although I have never actually seen it, it is not that common and not done everywhere.

There were two editions of this book, I don't know what the differences were between them apart from the cover changed from the handwriting style to somethin more legible.

The Bible may contain information of historical interest. For example Pontius Pilate, or King Belshazzar of Babylon were thought to be made up but later archeological evidence showed that they existed. Also it gives us knowlege about the language and culture of some ancient peoples.
But there are also a lot of fabulous stories that there are no reason to believe. Do you believe in the creation account? If not do you believe in the Flood? Was Abraham a real person? If not was Moses a real person? Did he go up into a mountain and receive the Law from YHWH? The old testament contains precise geneologies which can be used to pinpoint the years of the events it talks about. Claiming that some parts are to be taken figuratively and others metaphorically leaves one with questions like, if Abraham existed, what about his father, or his grandfather, etc.
If you discount all of the Old Testament to focus on the Gospels, then you are forgetting that the "proof" of Jesus's messiahship was to be found in the Hebrew scriptures. Jesus also referred to events in the Old Testament so if you accept the Gospels then you must also accept (some of) the Old Testament. But how can you tell what is "metaphorical" and what isn't? The Bible was written by men, not God. -

WTS statistics question
by parakeet indoes anyone know how the wts tallies the number of jws worldwide?
i ask because so many on this board and elsewhere, including me, have gradually faded away from the jws, have become "inactive" in wt terms.
are inactive jws included when the wts publishes the total number of jws worldwide?

That has reminded me of a change a while ago where instead of putting field service reports in a box at the Kingdom Hall they were now to be put in a box at the book study. If what you say about book study conductors is right then this would make it easier to fake them.
