hmmm, my mom has been calling me a apostate for the last 8 months... just not to my face. I still go to the house to eat every now and then, she doesn't listen to everything that 'brothers' say anyway... 'their just men' in her own words. We've gotten into a few arguments and we sort of agreed not to talk religion.

It's now official: I've "turned apostate."
by Confession inthumbnail details: lifelong jw and former elder with 30 family members in.
came to realize it wasn't the truth at age 38, just over two years ago.
have been fading with my 19 year old daughter, making two, major, long-distance moves.

Weak in the Faith = Lose Privilages
by RULES & REGULATIONS inhave you ever lost any privilages due to being spiritually weak?
i wasn't going out in servive as much, not commenting and wasn't married to a witness.
i was taken off the ministry school talk # 2,couldn't pray for the congregation, was taken off the sound equipment, couldn't pass out literature, couldn't receive a blood card and finally couldn't receive any books because i wasn't considered part of the congregation.that was fine with me.. what were the signs you received from your congregation telling you that you were weak in the faith?.

Why are you complaining, I love to hear stories like this from this christian cult. All of this rigidiness serves as a vehicle to help people free themselves from this high control religion, it is actually a blessing in disguise. I hope more rigid, self important elders are appointed, the religion will fall that much faster.

Another reason to not keep all of your investments confined into one country. Which is why ~40% of my portfolio is in Euro/Pacific companies. I learned my lesson from the tech bust. Sure, it was great watching those gains multiply in the early years, but after 2000-2001, things went south pretty fast.
I'm with Jourles on this one, I also put 40% of my portfolio into a international mutual fund, did 30% this past year. the other 60% I put mainly in a large cap value fund and did about 22%. My personal stock picks are doing about 10% although I'm pretty confident they will pop by summer (I invest once a year in the summer for a one year period to reduce my capital gains tax). This year, I'm probably going to put 50~60% in international because that market is still hot. I anticipate the US market not doing as well this year because of all the debt, but there are some attractive stocks that I think I will purchase shortly such as GM. I put my portfolio where my mouth is... let's have this discussion same time next year.
I must remember to fill up the contribution box at the kingdom hall....

I'd probably do a little more than call the sheriff, I figure two can play that game. but if you don't want to go to that level, maybe a few peel off stickers of WT bulls**t on their windshields should do the trick. (you need to go to the hall during the meeting)

Do you, too, see JW chronology numbers everywhere?
by GermanXJW ini regulary look at my digital alarm clock and it says "19:14" and i think "hmm, used to be the end of the 'gentile times'" than i take a look at my number of posts and i have already passed 1914, 1918, 1925. when i look at car plates i get reminded of year numbers having been hammered into my brain.
well, this is not really serious, but i get always reminded of my jw past.
i have to add that chronology was something important to me and carl olof jonsson's book "the gentile times reconsidered" was an important one for me.

hmmm, the only number that freaks me out is 666. The other numbers make me grin (607, 1914, 1975, etc..)
