I found this article very interesting - it talks about how the exact same greek work proskuneo is translated as worship when referring to God yet obesience when referrring to Jesus in the NWT. I looked this up in their Greek Interlinear - it's true - it's the same word and can be shown to them in their own book if you can get a copy of it.

I talked to my daughter today
by ESTEE inas many of you may be aware, i am disfellowshipped and live in the same city as my daughter...we work a block away from each other in downtown vancouver.
occasionally, i drop flowers off at the reception desk for her, with my home card, my business card, etc.
well, today was the day when i decided to take it a step further.

(((((((Estee))))))))
I have this very strong feeling that this is not over and you need to keep doing what you are doing. Have patience - it might take a very very long time - but your daugther WILL see the love in you and will respond. Do not give up!
I wish so much that I had a mother that loved me as much as you love your daughter. I have a 5 year hold daughter now and just hope that I always show her the unconditional love like this.

How did you stuck in the JW borg ???????
by run dont walk in.
i was born into it, and had a rough ride getting out, not much fun growing up having little respect (didn't want to use the hate word) for your parents/family.. i can honestly say my parents had no idea how life works, as is the case for most jw's.. how did you get stuck in it, and how long did it take you to finally walk away (or still trying to) ???
(took me years)

((((Scooby))))) - keep reading and hang in there! I love your posts.
I was born into it - all the rest of my family is still in. Baptised at 13 - was DF'd at 19, reinstated (dumb mistake) then DF'd again at 24. But it wasn't until about 10 years later that I started to REALLY break free. I still thought they were the truth and I was just someone with a bad heart - even though I was living a good clean life (married, great kids, good career, etc) and trying to do the right thing.
I read Crisis of Conscience - that was the first step for me. Then I found a few websites like this one and started to really research the history of the JW and their doctrines. About 3 years ago I stumbled onto a church (through a weird twist of fate) - the pastor there was able to see right through many of the JW twisted doctrines and mind games and helped me to see the truth in the bible.
I feel like I finally free November 2002 when I was baptised as a Christian in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - no denomination - just a Christian.
Now I'm working at getting my family out - along with anyone else I run across that will listen.

DID JESUS LOSE HIS FAITH?
by plmkrzy inin god?.
jesus spent close to 20 years convincing people he was the savior and the son of god.. .
he did such a good job of it that 2,000 years later a large portion of the world still believes it.. .

yep. A reminder of the prophecy - that he was the Messiah.
Good thing it wasn't me - I would have said something stupid like "I'LL BE BACK! (in Arnold's voice)"

JW's not happy people
by wannaexit ini've noticed a lot of discontent among my jw friends.
i've had some express to me how stressed out they are because the meetings take up too much time and the assemblies are too long.
( a lot of complaining about this international assembly coming up).

The 70 Years of...ISAIAH 23:15
by logansrun inthe seventy years of isaiah 23:15
so much has been said about the seventy years of daniel and jeremiah in reference to the desolation of jerusalem on this forum and elsewhere.
of course, as we all well know, the society interprets these seventy years as literal, occurring from 607 bce to 537 bce.

It's the same way that they arbitrarily decided that the number 144,000 is literal, but the rest of that scripture in revelation is Figurative. And that the great crowd are standing before the throne of God "figuratively" but the 144,000 are before the throne of God literally.
Just pulled it out of their butt is what they did.

It has never been real clear regarding if Jesus even actually spoke those words, or if someone inserted them and it stuck as though it actually happened.
As to whether it actually happened or not - I'm taking it that it did because it's in the bible. But I don't ignore that there could be arguments to the contrary.
Anyways - yes, you're correct in that it is a prophecy about Jesus from King David. Jesus was repeating it (the hymn). T hink of it as a last minute witness - someone knowing what has happened to Jesus and seeing him on the cross, then hearing this well known Jewish hymn about the Messiah - suddenly puts it all together (you know). It would also have been a witness to those there that DID believe in him already - confirmation as they remembered the hymn and the prophecy.

In your experience, do JW's show hospitality?
by Gopher inand i don't just mean "formal" hospitality that is scheduled on the announcement board for visiting speakers and travelling overseers.. i mean real, from the heart, love of strangers (xenophilia in greek).
xenophobia (fear of strangers) is the antithesis of hospitality.. when you visited other halls where nobody knew you (and you weren't the guest speaker or the travelling overseer), did people go out of their way to make you feel welcome?
or did they mutter to themselves, "i wonder who the stranger is?

I once brought a return visit to the meetings. Noone would talk to him because they assumed it was my "wordly boyfriend" (which I didn't have). Sheesh.......good thing I guess because he never came back.
