Are You Health Conscious?
by minimus indo you watch what you eat, exercise properly, and get the proper rest?
or----do you not worry too much about your health and believe that we're all going to die sooner or later, anyway?
-
Dawn
except every 28 days when chocolate is not safe around me Oh Yea!!
I am very health conscious - but in moderation. I like my beer & margaritas - I also like an occasional sausage dog and nachos - but I exercise almost every day for an hour (I jazz dance and lift weights) and I eat 3-5 servings of fruit, 2 servings of milk, limited red meat, take antioxidant vitamins, etc. I know I'm going to die some day - but I also know that I'm growing old and I want to make my life the best while I can. I want to be 75 and still going to senior functions having fun, not 75 and in a nursing home because I can't breath or walk due to bad health.
Not to say something unforseen might happen to me - but I'm doing my best to make the best of the time I have here.

Reverse Shunning
by StinkyPantz inmy mom calls every few months to "hear my voice".
whenever this happens i am very sad and very angry all mixed together.
i am torn.

(((SP))) I have two children, one almost 18 and one in grade school. Although I was raised a 'dub I still can't imagine shunning my own children. I am so sorry for what you are going through. I agree with the advice you were given to screen the calls, take the ones you feel like taking and ignore the others. You ARE worth caring for - so start first by loving and caring for yourself.

Maybe some incredibly heartless, thick, cretinous morons choose cremation to avoid paying for a stone
Excuse me.......could you please explain this? Do you feel this way about all individuals how choose cremation? Or was it just a shot against the JWs?

"Serving" as a woman
by Dawn inthis would somewhat apply to anyone who "served" in areas as a 'dub but especially to women.
there were always those areas that women simply were not allowed to serve.
and even the most menial tasks such as serving lunch on a quick build or cleaning toilets at the kh required "good standing" and an approval by the elders .

how we have to get under the yoke with Jesus as his load is mild and refreshing
You know.....now that I have begun to learn who Jesus really is, and have taken on some of the responsibilities (yoke) that I feel HE wants me to do - it isn't hard at all. Instead of feeling like a chore it's just something that flows out from me naturally and comfortably. And it energizes me.
Jesus' yoke is light - it's the 'dub yoke that overwhelmed me.

how everything you do is controlled by the org
EXACTLY!! Even a party in your own home was controlled as to who you could invite, what you could do or watch. gag

And even the most menial tasks such as serving lunch on a quick build or cleaning toilets at the kh required "good standing" and an approval by the elders I guess I have always had a servant's heart - I want to help people. Ultimately - I served a lot on these small jobs and was also turned down a lot because I had a tendancy to get in trouble....
So skip ahead 15 years. I'm now at a new church. A couple years back they needed help in the sunday schools and asked for volunteers. I volunteered to help in my daughter's class. And.....behold......that was it - no discussion if I was approved, no talk with the elders, just a big THANKS!! and what days can you be available. It's embarassing to admit now - but I was stunned. When I told some of the people there why I was shocked they were even more shocked! They couldn't believe the level of control at the org.
Well, I enjoyed the kids and the sunday school so much that I started doing more - and now am one of many volunteers for the children's music camp - we meet every wednesday night and currently have 94 kids enrolled. Well....still no discussion about approval status, how many hours I have shared the word. They didn't even mind that I have not officially become a "member" because I am still questioning some of their teachings. Just a lot of THANKS for making yourself available to help us.
My brother (an elder) was telling me recently that he and some friends are working "quick builds" almost every weekend - and they made up some fun t-shirts that said "I'd rather be Quick building". They were counseled by other elders and are no longer allowed to wear the shirts at the quick builds.
How lame. Serving is supposed to be joyful - it is supposed to be something that empowers both the person doing the serving and the person being served - like me with the kids. I come home feeling great.
It just hits me - serving under the JW org in ANY status is a heavy load. Even when it's supposed to be something fun.
How sad.

It's like this:
You grow up in an abusive household. You stay because you don't know any different and there are people there that you have ties to and love.
One day you make a mistake and your dad throws you out of the house.
A friend takes you in and you go to live with their family. In that new home you find love, acceptance, and healing. This new family tells you that they want to adopt you into their family permanently.
Your abusive father comes back and says.....well...if I clean up the house a little will you come home?
Uh........NOT!!
I was a 'dub - but have now found a true relationship with my Lord. To use a scripture so often quoted by the JW's in Romans chapter 8:37-39 " For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. "
God is NOT the Jehovah that the dubs portray him to be.

News and Iraq
by Yerusalyim inok, this is me on iraq again...i'm aggravated.
why isn't the press reporting all the progress being made over there?
sure...death and destruction sales newspapers...but the media is now shaping the news.

Yeru: Thank you for the post. It's good to hear that the majority of the Iraqi's support this.
Shaumus: The oil does not belong to America. It belongs to Iraq. The Iraqi's are not responsible for the Americans actions - I agree with you completely.
I don't know if we should have gone into Iraq in the first place. But now that we have - I think it is our responsibility to finish the job of rebuilding and to support our troops still over there.

Placing a newspaper ad for support group...
by Dawn ina few weeks back i posted about trying to place an ad for an x-jw support group:.
http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/58343/1.ashx.
some of you gave me very good advice - that basically i still have ties (my mother) which would preclude me from being a very good administrator for the support group.

A few weeks back I posted about trying to place an ad for an x-jw support group:
http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/58343/1.ashx
Some of you gave me very good advice - that basically I still have ties (my mother) which would preclude me from being a very good administrator for the support group. I still wanted to start one and was thinking maybe I should go back to the paper and speak with the manager about the issue of anonymity. I prayed about it - and each time got this feeling that I shouldn't go. Well...interestingly...I found out tonight quite by accident that a JW's work at both of the papers here where ads can be placed. Hmmmmm - what do you suppose a 'dub would say to my prayer about THAT being answered??
Ok - so for now starting a public support group is on hold for me. But I'm not done yet. You see - there is this popular christian rock song right now that really strikes my heart - the lyrics are
But if we are the body
Why aren't His arms reaching?
Why aren't His hands healing?
Why aren't His words teaching?
And if we are the body
Why aren't His feet going?
Why is His love not showing them there is a way?
There is a wayThere are so many lost x-dubs out there that have been damaged by that organization and they really need to know the truth about the org so they can begin to heal and to be able to choose for themselves what they will believe without mind control.
So here's my new plan....I have a good friend who was raised as a JW until she was young teens but has been out for years - never baptised. Unlike me, she has no ties left in the org and could care less what they think. She told me she would place an ad for me - in fact she hopes they give out her name and address so the 'dubs will stop coming to her house . So I think I should have her place an ad with this website address such as...
"Jehovah's Witnesses: are you an ex-member who has been damaged by shunning - or do you have questions about the history of the organization and it's doctrines? www.jehovahs-witness.com
So........here's your chance - give me your feedback (please please please!!) - I really value your opinions and support. Thanks!
Oh.......and stay tuned........some day I'm going to have a ROCKIN' support group!
