Marriage material in JW

i grew up jw and was your average blonde, blue eyed florida girl.

i of course being a normal girl had raging hormones and was always looking around at boys.

i was a pioneer though and homeschooled, so i only met jws and was always of the mindset that i had to marry a jw.

There definately wasn't much to choose from! The guys always outnumbered the girls and there was so much competition.

I fell madly in love with an elder's son when I was 18. We had plans to get married, but his parent's didn't like me (maybe because I would think for myself and voice my opinion? ). They forbid him to see me and then picked out another girl in his hall and told him he had to marry her. He did it!

Now I realize they did me a huge favor - at 18 I was too young to realize what a @$$ wipe wimp this guy was and that he would never be able to support me financially or emotionally. Funny - they think they saved their son's life and have no idea that they really saved mine.

PS - his marriage didn't last very long. So they found another woman for him to marry and she's twice his age. Weird!

i think that pretty much says it all.we can all whine and groan about how the society has wronged us and how they are so self preserving and wrong , evil, false, controling decieving, self righteous,and whatever.those who speak of giving up or god is dead or now i smoke pot and god loves me or now i commit fornication and its okay or those that get drunk and say thats okay.man some of you sound like the apostate definition according to the society.the evil slave.in order not to allign yourself with satan your job i think is simple.stop doing wrong.

quit trying to have sex outside of marriage,smoking pot,lieing cheating and stealing.i dont care who you are you dont want to die.

ive tried it twice and am glad im still here.im no wuss either former power lifter very veril and have 4 children.some of you kill me with your live for today mentality.i have a hard time believing that you chose to leave rather than being disfellowshipped and just feel bitter.

What's Your Budget For Christmas Shopping???

My husband and I save through the year for x-mas so that we don't end up with credit card bills in January. The budget should really depend on your financial situation. One family might budget $1000 and another can only spend $500 - it just depends on what you can aford without going into debt. It's really the thought that counts. In fact, my friends and family all love my homemade gifts the best (I make christmas candy and kahluah, then wrap it up in pretty jars and boxes).

My advice is to just have fun and don't worry about it too much. If you overspend you'll end up regretting it in the long run and that just ruins the christmas spirit.

Christmas tradition - for kids

i initiated a christmas tradition with my son when he was little and have continued it all these years - thought i'd share it with you in case you have little ones.. since my kids just can't wait to open their presents, i wrap one special gift for them to open x-mas eve.

it's always the same thing - brand new pajamas and a cuddly toy for bed time.

my kids absolutely loved this christmas eve tradition.

Hi 3rdEye. That depends on what your beliefs are. For me - I teach my daughter that Christmas is a time to celebrate Christ, but she also knows that's not his ACTUAL birthday - just the day chosen to celebrate it.

Is the word "bulletin" negative?

at last nights meeting my dad gave the announcements and he said bulletin board.

after the meeting an elder came up to him to tell him that bulletin is a negative word and to say information board next time.

whats up with that?

seriously...........doesn't this elder have ANYTHING better to worry about - like say, an elderly brother/sister that needs rides to the meeting. Or perhaps a neighbor on the block that has been ill and could use some meals home delivered. Maybe he could worry about whether the flock fully understand the entire blood doctrine so they don't refuse medical treatment that is actually approved now. Or perhaps he should be worrying about Br. XXXX who has been privately reproved for fondling his 3 year old neice and is now offering to help sister newly singled that has a young child...

NAH - let's waste our time with the friggin word BULLETIN BOARD! OMG this whole thing drives me hutty!

I've been out about 14 yrs now. My son knows about the JW background as he was about 4 when I left and he continued to go to meetings with my parents until he was in Jr. High. Thank goodness he decided they're (JW's) full of it. My daughter doesn't know about it - she came along LONG after I was out.

I'm so glad that both of my kids have been raised with holidays, birthdays, normal lives.

Do you and your significant other share religious beliefs?

sometimes, i think my husband is much more church oriented than i am.

i still get upset when i attend church, but lately he has been putting the push on me for us to go back to his church where he grew up in.

he would like to start taking our daughter so she has a somewhat structured religious belief.

She went to the assembly with my JW mom and enjoyed herself...I went to the beach and to Hooters with my ex-JW dad and also had a great time

I'm a christian who regularly attends a non-denominational church. My husband is pretty much evolutionist/athiest (with a small % of belief that there MIGHT be a God). He doesn't mind me taking my daughter to church with the agreement that she only goes when she wants to.

Someone else mentioned here that if you don't teach your kids, someone else will. That is VERY true.

Perhaps you could go "church shopping" - find one that you're both comfortable with. It really doesn't matter WHERE you go, what matters is the relationship you have with Jesus. Church is just a place to go and worship, meet other people with the same basic goals/beliefs, and a social arena. Some churches have great extra-curricular activities for kids (like camp outs, festivals,etc.). Also - there are churches that don't pass the plate - the church I attend has a box in the back that people can drop $$ into, but no plate is passed. My advice is don't force yourself (or your kids) to go somewhere that you don't feel comfortable - you'll just end up resenting it more in the long run.

Religion? Or twilight zone episode?

my grandmother on my mothers side has cancer and is getting ready to undergo chemo again.

when the family got together for thanksgiving this year i had a discussion with my aunt about her view of life after death, it was a little odd.

well more than a little so i thought i'd post it to see what you guys thought.

Mormons believe they will become Gods of another planet if they're good.

The truth is - it ALL sounds like the twilight zone. I mean, honestly - whether we believe an intelligent being molded humans from clay, or we believe that some ocean sludge accidentally came together in a chemical reaction that then grew legs, crawled out of the ocean, and eventually formed into a human over millions of years - both explanations make for a good science fiction novel.

Maybe we're all Gods that have existed forever and we're just dreaming this crazy mess up? Ok - just kidding....
