Is there new light on separation/divorce?

i had a chance to thumb through the bible teach book (which was a waste of fifteen minutes of my life that i'll never get back ...) and i had a question about the section on family life.

i believe it stated that separation was allowed in some extreme situations (not named), but that divorce was only allowed in cases of fornication..

i was never a jw, but i'm currently watching a jw family member go through some crap in their marriage.

My sister DA'd herself several years ago and married a worldly guy. He was later put in prison for about a 10 year sentence. After he went to jail, she got reinstated, but she was not free to remarry just because he was in jail. He submitted a letter to my sister stating that he was having a homosexual affair with another inmate. That gave her grounds for a divorce. Fast forward a few years and he is about to get released. My mom tells me that they still love each other and plan on getting back together after he gets out. I asked my mom "I thought he was gay??" My mom said that my sister and her asked Bill to write that letter so that she could get divorced and possibly remarry and she told me that the letter was made up.

Imagine my shock. My parents refused to see me (but would still talk to me on the phone) but they took part in a scheme to get my sister divorced! Where were they when I wanted a divorce?????

After that I asked my mom to no longer contact me.

Just goes to show you how f*&^%$ up that religion is.

Anger!!!!

yesterday, when i was driving through holland, michigan, i was a little lost looking for the human resources office.

i was heading down a busy divided four lane street unfamiliar, when i looked up and there it was, a kingdom hall in all it's radiant three day quick-build glory.

and for the first time, rather than just the usual cringe, i felt angry!.

I'm angry that my parents and siblings shun me but they welcome my brother-in-law into their homes and he molested my sister and me (they know that he did it too). If anyone ever touched my two kids I would probably kill them, not welcome them over for a meal. It makes me feel like I was so unimportant to them.

I'm angry that they gave up their relationship with my children, and have never seen my daughter who is 3 years old. She is the sweetest girl on the earth and they just don't care!

When I do pass a KH I think "nah nah nah nah . . .I'm free of this crap and you are not!"

Would you change the way you left if you could?

if you were put in a similar position to when you left the jws, would you choose to leave in a particular way because of your experiences?

if you had nothing to loose from family etc, would you be tempted to leave with a bang, or to get some sort of revenge on those who shun you?

I wish I just DA'd myself at 18 instead of being DF'd at 26. I wish I didn't give them the satisfaction of DF me.

If I had DA'd myself then I never would have married my first husband when I was 19. Then again, I wouldn't have my wonderful son if I had not married his dad.

All in all, I think things happen for a reason. I'm a lot stronger because of how things panned out. It makes you stronger when you have to face the world alone with no family and no friends to support you. I refuse to let stangers in Brooklyn have such an influence on my life anymore.

How do some of you, find so much time to be on this board?

i have noticed that some posters are here a lot, and i was just wondering how you find so much time to do that?

between work, coming home and playing with my child, working outdoors in the yard, and enjoying the weekend in the outdoors doing fishing, hiking or just getting outside.

i have little time for places like this and yet some are here "a lot!

I used to get on at work when I first joined but we recently had a memo go around the office stating we shouldn't be wasting time on the web. So now I just get on at home, but finding the time to do that is far and few between.

Your greatest turn of luck

what was your greatest turn of luck in life, finding a treasure or winning the lotterry, a great spouse, a good teacher or something else?

for me it was investing in a flat that saw a big increase in its value in two years.

I think my greatest (besides being disfellowshipped) was meeting my future husband. He treats me very well, loves my kids from my previous marriage, and loves me for who I am.

why can't witnesses be like normal people?

because they have to think about every single possibility that might or could occur.

what if someone could be "stumbled" by my course?

I got sick of the micromanaging style.

EVERYTHING you do they have to have a say-so!

"Don't wear your hair like that/dress like that . . . you might stumble someone"

"Don't drive that type of car . .you might stumble someone"

Even telling a man and woman what is appropriate or not appropriate in the privacy of their own bedroom!

I remember being at a Distric Convention once and a mother was in the bathroom beating their kid so bad that another sister went out and grabbed an attendant and they had to intervene.

I also remember a couple who went to my hall and they would bring a wooden paddle with holes drilled in it and they would bring it out and show their kids and the kids would cringe. Makes you wonder what went on at home with the paddle.

My mom used to brag about spanking my brother when he was 6 weeks old because he was crying at a meeting. She said he was old enough to realize that crying would get his way. My dad was especially cruel to my brother. My sisters and I would witness my dad beating him with a belt numerous times. I was the youngest and never got that kind of torture. My sisters and I would stand there and cry when he was being beat. He ran away from home when he was 16 and committed suicide when he was 23.

OK...I Just Have to Share....

i put my house on the market today at around 12:45pm... the sign went in our front yard around 1:20pm...2:10 the realtor phones and says that someone wants to see the house 1:30 tomorrow (saturday)....then he phones back at 3:45 (i'm out picking up lucifer from work) i phone him back around 4:00pm...he says the people want to see the house at 5:30pm (today)....9:30 we get an offer, and we sign the papers....i am sooooooo happy...lol...but they have 20 days to get an inspector in and their finances in place....so may 11th, if all goes well, my house is sold!

i just had to share..lol....i have been phoning everyone!

My future hubby and I just bought a house ourselves. It is a real buyers market were I live. The house we bought is a new construction and it's been on the market since last November.

in my case, it was always the length of the meetings that bothered me.. no matter what meeting it is, you have to get there prepared, and that means lots of time reading the darn literature.. another thing that would irritate me, is all the magazines that come in faster than i can read.. i'll let you guys add to this list.. .
