Looks like you had a good time!
I'd like to travel abroad but I have this fear of flying (I WILL fly but I don't like too and pretty much scared the entire trip until the plane lands).

Were "Theocratic Activities" A Burden To You???
by minimus inif you go to an assembly or convention, you are made to feel that everything is joyful, wonderful, "happifying", paradisaic, unified.
going to 5 meetings, never missing them, preparing for meetings and doing regular personal and family study and pioneering, if at all possible, raising your kids to be perfect little ministers, etc.......all these types of things are supposed to make you feel wonderful!

No matter what you did it was never enough.
I found it nausiating when at the assemblys and the speaker would say something like "Are we not thankful for this rich spiritual abundance blah blah blah" and everyone would start clapping like they were so happy.
God how annoying!

When I think about my parents marriage. They were two of the MOST unhappy people I've ever met. My mom told me on numerous occasions that she wished she never married my dad (but then would add that it was worth it because she had her kids).
My dad was very emotionally abusive to my mom and would swear and cuss at her all the time in front of me and my sisters. Four letter words regulary spewed from his mouth - especially in the car after leaving the Kingdom Hall. He would call my mom the most awful names. She would just sit there and take it. She believed that she could never get divorced and still have her JW family. He was also an alcoholic and she went to the elders several times over it - nothing got done.
They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2004. I obviously wasn't invited to the "celebration" but it made me sad to think of her wasting 50 years on my SOB dad.
I may be d/f but at least I am in a happy marriage - I'm happier then I've ever been.

Did anyone else wonder why?
by Jerohobobonadad ini always thought that if you want to do 6 or 60 hours a month in field service, why make a big fanfare about it and become a pioneer or whatever?
i always thought if you want to go out loads, then go out loads; why do you need a group of "elders" to approve of it and make an announcement?
i've read about a few on this board who got turned down for pioneering.

My mom wasn't approved to pioneer because I was "seeing" a brother from another hall and they didn't approve of it. We never really dated, he would come and visit my hall and sit with me. Thats about it.
It made me sick how they would try and interfer with EVERY aspect of your life.

IF....
by Khrysanthemum inif you could choose just one person to free from this religion, who would it be and why?.
i would choose my mom.
my dad is also a witness, but i think he just stays in for my moms sake.

THANKS!
That would be nice, but they are very "hard core" Witnesses. Hey, thats ok if they don't want to see me, but they are missing out on one VERY cute granddaughter (if I might say so!)

My mom.
I haven't seen her or my dad in about 10 years and they have never seen my 4 year old daughter. I am kinda used to not having them around but when big events happen in my life, it would be nice for her to be there with me.
I recently got re-married in June and my son gave me away, he also danced with me (in place of my dad). It was very touching, but it would have been nice for my mom to see that I'm not really that bad person she thinks I am.

by aoxo infool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.
well it seems that my first big mistake leaving the j-dubs was continuing to be trusting of others.

I get these e-mails about once every two months. About 3 months ago there was an article in my local paper about a woman who got scammed in this to the tune of over $30,000! Poor woman will be a heap of trouble for a while.
