Sorry to hear of your loss. It's a shame that he lost his life when he was supposed to be enjoying it to the fullest with no financial worries.

Is there Racial harmony among the JWs?
by Amazing inwhen i joined the jws, racial issues were not really discussed much, other than some mention in the material given to me during my bible study in the "truth" book.
our kingdom hall had only one dark skinned individual, who is portguese, and one of the anointed.
i believe that he is now deceased.

Whenever a mixed race couple who were JW's would marry a few would comment that they didn't think they should marry because it would be "unfair to raise mixed race children in this old system of things" because they would be teased at school. Well heck, we got teased all the time for being a dub and I am not of a mixed race. I think the people saying that were really racist and were covering it up by their "how unfair it would be to the kids" comments.

The Great Taboo Discussion---Suicides among former Jehovah's Witnesses
by The wanderer in<!-- .style1 {font-family: arial, sans-serif} .style2 {color: #ff0000} .style3 {color: #000000} .style4 {font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; } --> the great taboo discussionsuicides among former jehovah's witnesses to write about this discussion neither appeals to me nor does it make me feel comfortable to discuss it.. however, it is necessary to consider in light of all the trauma, negative experiences, and personal traged-.
ies that have happened to individuals on this board.
(what inspired me to write this subject was a bone chilling account .

This thread makes me so sad. My brother killed himself when I was 12. He was living in Wyoming and jumped from an observation tower that was located in a national park. His fiance had broken up with him and he was very depressed. My sister also attemped suicide and was in and out of mental institutions (my brother-in-law molested her and me). Sometimes I'm amazed that I turned out half decent (although my JW family would disagree with that).
What my brother did devistated my parents. My dad refused to believe he was dead for a long time. He refused to attend his funeral because (in his words) he wanted to stay home "in case (my brother) decided to call".

Hardships and Assemblies
by Sunspot ini just left a post on the "pa convention" thread concerning some of the hardships and difficulties that jws had to (or some here still have to?
) endure just to either get to a convention or what they go through after getting to the convention.. having to trot around from designated doors to the restrooms (rather than being ordered to use the door they told you to) no matter where your family was sitting..... or having you and your family have to climb way too many stairs on the last upper tier to find seats.....while plenty of empty seats remained on the ground floor that were never used that whole day?.
or the designated wts-regulation-sized cooler you had to lug into the stadium because you weren't allowed to leave the site to get a snack or a drink?.

I was shocked when I read of them covering the mirrors . .I never saw that at the assemblies I was at. They did however turn a lot of the mens rooms into ladies bathrooms during the convention. I always felt bad for the guys.

we knew a jw couple who applied every year to bethel and giliad until the age cut-off (age 35 or 40?).

I hated "past the bloom of youth".
That just sounds so stupid to me.

When's the last time you went to the Kingdom Hall?
by JH init's been a little over a year for me.. about 15 months..

About 6 years ago. A Witness girl I worked with was getting married. She knew I was d/f but didn't care. The Kingdom Hall I went to was far enough away from the one that I was d/f from that no one recognized me.
It's been 10 years though since I actually attended a meeting though.

What would you notice first if you went back to a Kingdom Hall?
by JH infirst thing i'd notice is how the old ones got so much older and how the kids became adults and are taller than me.. next thing i'd notice would be how long and dull the meetings are.. *yawn*.

I'd probably notice that they are still taking about the same things and rehashing stuff.

I'm afraid of spiders as well. There was a big black on in our garage the other night and I freaked out until my husband could get out of the shower and kill it for me. Normally he will pick them up with a tissue and take them outside but this sucker was so big that I insisted he kill it! I didn't want to take the chance on him coming back into the garage.
