Greys Anatomy

anybody see greys anatomy tonight?

there was two amish girls on it.

one was shunned , the other wasn't because she wasn't baptized.

Well I was wondering if 1) someone was going to mention tonight's episode; 2) if Grey's was going to do a no-blood or religious episode (they all do at some point)

I thought it was pretty good. Considering the Amish are a lot like JWs. Let's remember the girl who was rapped and the Amish told the judge they wanted to handle it their way, which meant they would shun the boy for a while but no one said what "a while" was and in the end cause the girl took it to the "worldly" courts, she got shunned and the boy was reinstated or whatever the Amish call it. How typical of a male run, over the top religious group!

So little knowledge

so many people here and so little knowledge of jehovah's witnesses.

there are still people here associating jehovah's witnesses with the watchtower society when that is not the case.

so many people look to the past not the future.

Grissom666 - what do you hope to gain? what is your motivation here? you cannot think you are preaching to people on this board? if you really were a JW, you would not be here because visiting apostate sites if forbidden by the religion.

And as for people stuck in the past, if you do not learn from your mistakes of the past, you can never move towards your future. Sexual molestation is a real problem in the religion. Treating people like second class citizens is a real problem in the religion. The list does go on of course, but those are to name a few issues that engulf the congregation.

You question people who bring up the past. Well truthfully I do not care what Russell or Rutherford did. Yeah I know their stunts and their claims to fame. I do not care, but to cast aside another's interest and questions is to go contrary to the teaching in the Bible itself, when the christian congregation was encouraged to not take what was said at face value but rather to question and research.

And as for so little knowledge ... hee, hee, hee ... you are kidd'n right? Besides the fact that we have people on this site who know the religion and its origins backwards and forwards, you have people who are generational in the religion and have lived it and whose families have lived it.

Well peaches, my guess is that you are going to have to experience the religion and all its ugliness all on your own. Good luck to ya, cause clearly, based on your postings, you are clueless.

I would shun them too because the Andersons did evil things against Jesus' followers.

Grissom666 - Too bad you don't believe in shunning us, because that would make you go away.

As for JWs being followers of Jesus. I hate to tell you this, but being a 3rd Gen JW, I never saw much Jesus going on in that religion.

And as for your prior comments, well thank goodness we have peeps like you to keep us all resolute in our way of thinking, because of you and your condemnation of anything that is outside YOUR box of right and wrong well that just reaffirms ME AND MY HOUSEHOLD that you are a fruit loop short of a box!

Maybe you should go to some other site and haunt them for a while.

Guys - I don't believe this negative ruling destroys the lower court case - it is an interlocutory appeal. Here is what Barbara said on a prior thread:

For those who are not familiar with the events that led up to this appellate court hearing on April 14th, I filed a civil lawsuit against the above Defendants on November 7, 2002, and which my husband, Joe, joined June 2, 2003. (If you want to read details of our lawsuit, go to Randy Watters, Freeminds.Inc web site and click on BARBARA ANDERSONS ANECDOTES FROM BETHEL and then click on LEGALLY ESTABLISHING AND DEFENDING THE TRUTH.) On August 8, 2003, Defendants filed a Motion to Dismiss. On October 6, 2003, a hearing was held in Manchester, TN. To sum up the major argument of the Defendants: It is not permitted in this country for a court to inquire into church discipline for whatever reason.

On November 3, 2003, the judge ruled that the Plaintiffs could go forward with the lawsuit. This meant we could progress with discovery, depositions, etc. However, our attorneys were notified on November 26, 2003 that Watchtower attorneys filed a Motion for Interlocutory Appeal, which meant they were appealing the decision of the judge. The reason for appeal was on the grounds of lack of subject matter jurisdiction with regards to the 8th cause in our action -- Wrongful Disfellowshipping. The lawyers for both sides went back to the local court in Manchester, Tennessee on February 5, 2004 to argue for and against. On March 23, 2004, our lawyers were notified that the judge, who denied the Defendants Motion to Dismiss, stayed all proceedings pending the resolution of the appellate process, which finally was addressed April 14, 2005 in the Tennessee Appellate Court in Nashville.

Interlocutory means that the WTBTS stepped in and took a portion of the case up to the appellate court. Now that the appellate court has ruled in favor of the WTBTS, that portion of the case that was being appealed (i.e., disfellowshiping) is out of the case. Most likely this will mean that plaintiff's counsel will amend their complaint dropping that portion of their claim. However, it does not mean that the lower court action is null and void. Unless I am missing something here, this is not a huge loss, it is just a minor bump in an otherwise hilly road.

But as was said by Blondie, let's let Barb or others who are party to the action tell us where this puts the current lower court case, my guess is that absent the "wrongful disfellowshipping" count, they are going ahead with the rest of it.

This may just relate to the interlocutory appeal which was pending before the appellate court. This does not necessarily mean that they lost in the lower court, just that they lost that portion that they were appealing. Before we say shucks, too bad, let's find out what the "loss" relates to. I am sure Ms. Anderson will fill us in, as she posts here from time to time.

thank you for your inquiries regarding the barbara anderson vs. watchtower tennessee appellate court hearing, which took place on thursday, april 14, 2005. accompanied by steve and joy imhof, from panama city beach, florida, and our attorney, jerre hood, from winchester, tennessee, we drove to nashville to attend the 1:00 p.m. scheduled appellate hearing.

this hearing was requested last year by defendants in the case, and they are: the numerous corporations of watchtower bible and tract society; watchtower spokespersons, j. r. brown, and david semonian, and certain elders of the manchester, tn congregation of jws.

My mom was raised a JW. From what I can gather, my father became a JW for her. They knew eachother in high school. He was a smoker and when they banned the practice, I believe he got DF'd. I am not 100% certain because it was never discussed in our family. You would think it would make it hard on us, but really it did not. I am the baby of the family, so I don't know what it was like for my older siblings, but it was pretty easy on me, one being a JW and one not.

When I was younger, my mother was not a tow-the-line kind of JW. My dad did not fight the practices and did not celebrate the holidays, it was not a big deal. Though one time my parents had gotten into a fight and my dad decided to take us on a holiday shopping spree, but after we drained the bank account, he realized he should not give a girl a credit card and set her free in a mall. If my mom did not want to do something she would blame it on her non-JW husband. She got lots of sympathy, but I always knew it was BS, her blaming my dad for something she wanted/did not want to do.

My father died when I was younger and my mother was on her own. It was hard for her because she never had to work and she had it pretty good. Eventually she had to get a job and she became bitter and more of an over the top JW. I think she never thought she would get old and have to address the issues she had to address and that is why she is more over the top now then when I was a kid.

The WTBTS did not destroy my faith in humanity, it destroyed by faith in faith and organized religion. The thing I realized even in the religion was that people for the most part are nice and open minded, it is the over the top religious fanatics (like JWs) that are narrow minded freaks and not the other way around.

Yeah, a good elder's wife told me that if she could hollow out her book and put a good juicy novel in it and pretend to be following along, she would do it in a heart beat.
