as an unabashed star trek fan i find all the references to the witnesses as "the borg" on this site really charming.
when coming up with my name i just thought "what is anti-borg?
Because there are times when I feel like Alice Through the Looking Glass. Also, the Looking Glass can mean a mirror, so self observation. It is also an theater here in the city that I have some connection with.

well................ive been in the jw religion my entire life, until last summer.
im 20 years old now, and miss my family and friends.
i left because i did alot of research about the jw religion, and i found nothing good and alot of truth.
I agree w/ BB, but don't be surprised if you never hear from her again. When I first started fading a friend of mine who was like a big sister to me, essentially told me off. Several years later I heard that she was very sick and I sent her a card that said ... No matter where either of us is in life, I will always love you and if you ever need me, I am here. I never heard from her and I imagine I won't because she also was raised a JW and all her family are JWs, so it would be very frightening to her (I am sure) to leave the religion. And as you know, the religion is right or wrong, either you are in it 100% or not, so that means that if you are not in it (especially for those who use to be in it) then you are not to be trusted or associated with.
I feel for you, really I do. Many people here have been in the same spot. Hang in there. The sadness will start to lessen, but for right now it just really sucks doesn't it.
some people can spot a "gay" person by using their built-in "gaydar".. can you spot a witness easily?

My JW raised GF's non-JW hubby can spot them a mile away. First, he guessed that someone he worked w/ was a JW (but probably not active) and he was right. He saw her at the KH when he went with his wife to the Memorial. The chick was embarassed to see him there. He guessed because she never said God Bless You after someone sneezed and she would shy away when it was the holidays or someone b-day. Then he guessed that the neighbors across the street were JWs because they did not socialize w/ the rest of the neighbors, no flag, no holiday gear ... but the biggest thing to him was that they always seemed angry, never any smiles on their faces. Then one day my GF saw them getting in their car and in the hubby's hand was the NWT that she recognized. So he was right, once again.
recently a woman i worked with for three years, passed out at work.
she has three kids and is very nice.
i did not do things with her away from work, but talk to her every day.
Nowman, I too have a very close GF who was a heroin and meth addict. She had to go thru rehab and she knew that once she got out that she would have to have an all new environment. She moved away from where she grew up, she made all new friends and started a career. I suppose that is how we became friends, as I was part of the new crew. I am fortunate to have her as a friend. It was not til years into our friendship that she told me about her addiction. She also told me that she still craves it some times. I give anyone huge credit for kicking a habit like this, as it has got to be pretty tough and is a life long struggle.
that's my suggestion.
i wouldn't trust most anybody.
Pin - you must not have family still in the religion, otherwise you would not tell people to piss or get off the pot. People here are trying to figure out a way to continue to have a relationship w/ family members that are still JWs and that means having to walk a fine line between being able to be yourself and being quiet about your feelings for the religion. To minimize what people go thru is generally based on a very narrow view on a subject, which always reminds me of the black and white mentality that the WTBTS teaches.
Mini - I was fortunate in that I had jw friends who had faded already, so I was in good company already. But even then, there is one GF who faded but she still considers herself a JW and so we cannot have an open and honest convo.
mine are switzerland, germany, japan, sweden, and china.
I have traveled enough to know that it is not just the scenery, but also the people and the food and the personality of the country. I love Australia and Spain. Of all the countries I have ever visited, these are the places that I would love to actually live in.
i have a teenage daughter and she is very lazy.
we have to get on her constantly to get her room clean, when asked about her progress, her answer is always"i am working on it".
then when we check, it is usually worse than the day before.
I will tell you what my mother did when I left my clothes on the floor. She would scoop them up and hide them. Till one day I only had one outfit to wear and then I was in trouble.
i've been on dates with very nice women.
but we just don't match up in the beliefs departments.
so...any single non-religious women on here?
Dude - as a chick who is single, I have to say 1) I agree w/ the creepy Toby McGuire avatar, people are visual, so you may want to take it down and put something else up in its place; 2) not all single women are into the christ, where are you meeting these women, the Salvation Army?; 3) since you seem ok w/ the idea of mtg someone on this site, why not join Match, E-harmony, Perfectmatch, etc., there are a ton of on-line places as well as Just Lunch which will set you up w/ someone.
I think you need to just let it happen and stop hanging out at the Branch Davidian compound, because those chicks are whacked. I agree w/ restrangled, use opportunities that arise in your every day. It may just happen w/o your having to work so hard at it (and w/o women trying to lay hands on you ... and not for the good reasons but to bring on the speaking in tongues).

lots of churches baptize those willing right at the church why do you think the jws don't do the same?
would it be too "discouraging" in congregations where there were no new ones baptized for a long time.
maybe they are trying for a bandwagon effect?
JeffT - do they encourage long study times. I remember when I was little they use to say that once a study finished the Truth book that they were ready for bapt'zm. After they did away w/ the Truth book they replaced it w/ the Paradise book and said that after they finished the Paradise book and one other book they were ready. Then it became the whole they should be ready in 3 to 6 months. It all depended on how soon the end was near. If they really thought it was close then people should be dunked regardless of their beliefs, if they let you in the door they were sheep-like. But then they had congos of people who had no clue what religion they were in and people were breaking the rules left and right. So I think they slowed the process down. But I have been out for so long now, I have no clue if they are of the one book or 6 month rule.
so my wife is still very close to me.
she acts like she hopes i come back to the meetings but.
she doesn't really expect it.
