I think the Poms would take issue w/ you saying that Australian slang is the "Queen's English". But I could be wrong because I am not British.
I have an Aussie Slang Book because I traveled through out the Land of Oz for months on several occasions and early on I had no clue what people were saying to me. I kept the slang book because some of the phrases are hysterical. If I remember correctly it also explains where some of the phrases originated.

Sorry dude, but the coin flips in both directions. The guys had all the power (and still do from what I see). Based on the fact that the chicks out number the dudes, that fact alone gives a guy the power to do what he wants.
A couple of examples - a good ol' pioneer sister's son was a double-lifer. He was openly dating a sweet JW girl all the while quietly sleeping w/ another JW kid. When girl 2 realized that all his sweet words were simply empty words she did go to the elders. But this young man's mother had a strong hold on the elders in the hall and she convinced them that her sweet son must have been lured into a sexual affair w/ this slut of a JW girl. The boy went to the elders and cried and said how sorry he was (and I know this because he came out and told us, "if you ever want to get out of something all you have to do is cry") and that was it. The JW girl said she was not sorry because she loved him and guess what ... yup she was DF'd. This young man continued to be what we referred to as a "serial dater" because you know the JW view of dating ... "dating w/ a view to marriage". He went thru a chick a month. He finally settled down w/ the dumbest JW on the face of the planet. But what is funny is that his family (all strong JWs) seemed to have recreated history and forgotten about his wild young days.
Another kid I grew up w/ was pioneering while going to HS. You know how the JWs eat that crap up. Well he too was leading a "double life". Eventually his conscious (I know that is not the JW spelling of it, but I cannot remember what it is) got the better of him and he fessed up. Because they did not want to lose a male pioneer and because he "really" seemed sorry he got out of it, no worries. He left a few tainted JW girls in his wake. I know of 2 girls that are now in their 40's and not married that still carry around the scarlet F on their chest, but he married a good pioneer girl and they have gone on to have clones of themselves. Stepford JW children if you like.
i'm a 4th generation witness.
however, i have jw cousins with grown grandchildren (that makes 6 generations), and two of them are married--all in the "truth.
" if they have kids, they will be 7th generation.
I am 3rd gen. My sisters kids make 4th. My nephew is btz'd and is pioneering.
okay, so my guy and i have been together for 10 months and we usually are ok together.
but there is something that has been getting to me and i think its unusual, but please correct me if i'm wrong - he won't let me sleep over at his house.
and he hardly ever stays at my house, he's maybe stayed here 3 times in our whole relationship.
I agree College. It does seem odd to me, I would also wonder if something was up. And I don't think that makes you insecure.
everyday, that i read, write, think and talk about the watchtower society makes me think whether or not i have really left it for good.. .
i fail to see the good in reliving the past in this way.
the discussion board features individuals that have 3 to 6 years on the board and individuals who have left the organization more.
I guess to me this is not a black or white question but rather a matter of personal preference. Each person here is here for a different reason, some may be similar to others, but each of us take w/ us our own experiences. Each of us heals in a different way. There is no right or wrong. I do understand that for some people here it has allowed them to move beyond the WTBTS. But I could see where some people might find it more mental bondage then mental health.

As for the statement about Catholics. Well, as far as the ones I know, it was common knowledge that certain priests had problems w/ the young boys. If you were old school (like from the Ol Sod) you hoped your son was not messed with, but knew that it could happen. This did not change the ones I know that were raised Catholic and they are still very good Catholics.
As for JWs ... the WTBTS will not admit to something unless it suits their agenda. What would frighten me is if they did admit to it, because I would wonder what they were up to. For the current rank and file, they will say that these things happened long ago and that Jah has now straightened it out and the elders must call the cops instead of "dealing with it w/i the congo". To them that is the big hurdle, not the "two witness rule". Most JWs think that the average person is hung up on the idea that the elders never reported it. They do not understand that it is not just one issue, it is a multi-level problem. Elders reported it to the WTBTS and keeping it hidden. The victim being made to feel like they are either liars or have brought it upon themselves. The WTBTS keeping track of these people but keeping it quiet. And the judicial system never becoming aware or involved in the problem so as to get the perv out of the hall, out of our neighborhoods and into prison.

A friend of mine sent me her actual obit notice when she died. It was a huge deal and tons of JWs turned out. I think it was your true christian revival mtg kind of thing. Everyone got all pumped up. You know the whole go team, go mentality.

No there is not. But the courthouse is a very small place, even in big cities. The courthouse is filled w/ people who love to gossip. If any of the clerks were friends w/ local counsel for the WTBTS, then they would hear about how the copy clerks were all pissed that they were having to copy thousands of pages of documents.
for about a week now, there's a fella where i work who has made known his plans to take off...well, it started out thursday & friday of this week to go to belton, tx.
i know he is a jw (he don't know i am an ex-jw), and so figured he was going to the annual picnic... err... i mean assembly.
anyway, things changed at work, and he had to come in thursday morning for something work-related.
It assembly week-end here too in Dekalb, IL. A GF of mine told me last night on the phone that she was not going because she thought she might be getting sick. Yeah, it is cold season and you certainly don't want to be around thousands who could make it worse. I know her husband well enough to know, if she does not go, neither will he. So that is two less witnesses at the convention.
