i was hoping to get some feedback from those of you that have laptops.
i know what i need primarily in terms of system specs so i am more interested in feedback regarding brands.
if you have a laptop i would be interested to know the brand, whether you bought it new or used, how long the warranty was, if you had any issues with it during or after the warranty (and whether these resulted in you having to take it in or send it away for repairs), if you would buy it again, if you recommend the brand on the whole.. i am currently leaning towards toshiba having met a few people that had bad experiences with dell.
Nosferatu,
I had one of those at work....but they didn't like to be dropped (or put down heavily).
If you were going to go any distance you needed a trolley

hello, i'm new here...but i've been reading the forum for some time, but this is the first time i've posted.
i am stuck.
i am a non witness and have been seriously dating a witness for about a year now.
I suspect that he has a decision to make that he doesn't want to make (or won't make).

here's my new pink scarf, knitted in five days.
it's pink and long and very fluffy.
it absorbed a lot of hyper energy, as i'm coming off a very stressful month at work.
I like the scarf jgnat.
Might amuse you to look at this http://www.abc.net.au/sydney/stories/s1701443.htm
A bit of a knit-in that has really taken off for all

Hello City Girl & welcome!!
I am not a witness - my wife is studying with them and has had a number (!) of concerted attempts using all sorts of ploys & tactics to get me to join in - this has been going on for the past 5 years.
My response? No way in the world would I consider joining the JWs after having read & researched enough to sate my curiousity. PLEASE read, ask questions (especially in this forum) and above all do not be duped into thinking that you can be a ceremonial JW. They do not exist.
Beware also the "love bombing" that a potential recruit is subjected to: Believe me, I know but I am sufficiently cynical to se past that.
Hope you find what you are looking for here - I certainly have.

i have finally connected my dvd, vcr and tv to my computer.
everything is working so far except the sound.
(still working on that part.. so i`m sitting here and get the bright idea to take a screen shot just to see if it would capture the video.
A really useful piece of freeware is "Hardcopy" at http://www.hardcopy.de although I do have a licenced copy.
You can do many things with this - including capture small sections of the screen. Also supports a large number of graphics formats.
Many be of use - better than <clrl> Print Scrn

no i was not there, but i always have to watch this intro and then the actual document over and over in my dreams at night.
i have a hard time believing how horrible we humans can be.
doing something for the sake of seeing if we can do it and never stoping to think that maybe we should not be doing it.
Chernobyl was a disaster of mammoth proportions - we will be living with its legacy for who knows how long. Sparkplug's comment
"doing something for the sake of seeing if we can do it".
also pretty well sums up the way humanity gets itself into these situations: a significant contributing factor to the Chernobyl disaster was fact that an experiment went very very wrong and that many / most of the control / safety systems were disabled.
Science and its allied technologies are great, but without controls they can be disasters waiting to happen: many scientists / businesses / governments seem to be either oblivious to the consequences of their actions or are uncaring of those consequences.
Sparkplug, I feel your dismay at what happened there, but it is even more frightening to realise that it is really just the very prominent tip of an environmental iceberg.
Think also of Bhopal and other similar places - they have similar sorry stories to tell. Exposure, regardless of whether it is nuclear, chemical or biological is an apalling thing to inflict on anyone or anything, and the path back from that exposure can be either difficult or impossible.

Information on Chernobyl is on the International Atomic Agency Website at www.iaea.org - Search on Chernobyl
watching my son grow is amazing.
he is into everything, thoroughly enjoying exploring, growing and learning every day.. i was reflecting how as each day passes, he learns more and he knows more; and thinking back to my childhood.
the more i learned, the more i knew.
The most important lesson that I have learnt in the past 20 years came about through working with one of my former University lecturers. When I was a student we were all in awe of this guy - he was the truest academic that you could imagine and had the most phenomenal knowledge of his area of expertise.
He was also, I found out 20 years later, one of the humblest people that I have known.
His secret to learning & gaining knowledge? He was always willing to listen to others - someone can always teach you something worthwhile, no matter how good or how brilliant you think you are.
Be prepared to say "I'm dumb - please tell me what you know"
You may be surprised at what you might learn!
