  Jehovah's Witness Ghost Story

  i was about twelve and a young "brother" invited me to stay the night at his house.

  my mom wanted me to be make friends with witness families, so getting permission was not that hard to do.

  his mom and dad picked me up at around five and we went back to his house.

  I do happen to believe in ghosts, as I lived with one growing up in my house. It too was an old home, built in the late 1800's. I never considered it to be a demon, and it never did anything bad to us. In my case, the ghost was an older man. I am certain that he was the original owner of the house.

  It could be quite possible the kid you saw was indeed the one that died. I think this is another perfect example of the fact we don't know exactly what happens after death. I personally do believe in heaven, but maybe heaven is different for each individual.

  In will be interesting one day, many years from now, to find out.

  trick or treat - jw style

  when i was young, i remember my dad handing out witness tracks to the kids when they would come to the door.

  come to think about it now, i am suprised that we never got vandelized later.. in fact, i remember one guy coming to the door with his kid, he only lived a few doors down.

  my dad gave some big speech along with the tract, upsetting the man enough that he stopped and went back home.

  As I grew older, I was aware of witness get togethers, usually out for pizza or something, and would attend those events. They would do anything to avoid being home when the trick or treaters came to the door. Some of course would turn off all the lights and pretend that they were not home, again to avoid the kids.

  I am still not sure what I think about the holiday; it sure isn't one of my favorites, but I think that the witnesses sure over react. I don't believe any of the kids are intending on being evil. They simply have an excuse to dress up and play.

  Anyways, the question I have, is what did you do as a witness at Halloween?

  Will God intervine?

  or is this life on earth only a testing or proving ground for an eternal life elsewhere?

  as jw's we were taught that god will intervine in the world and bring the earth to a unified state under a theocratic government.

  so, is man capable of maintaining the earth without intervention from a "higher source"?

  I agree completely Jim.

  I do believe that God indeed does have a plan, but for us earthlings, there has been so much speculation from thousands of religions........ I will continue to do what I posted above, and live my life the best that I can, and for me, that is accordance with the type of attitude that the bible says to have. I am not perfect by any means, but belief in God I think is better than the alternative.

  What do ex-JWs owe the public?

  recently ive wondered what we as ex-jws "owe" the public in general and even current jws.

  what i mean is - what do we owe them in the sense of warning them about this cult or , if theyre already in, helping them escape?

  most of us here probably agree that being a jw has a negative impact on an individual but how many of us here have actually helped someone leave the jws?

  I think part of the answer is to educate those that are not witnesses. They have not been brainwashed yet.

  That way, when they are approached, they will already know to stay away from the cult.

  I remember as a kid, looking over at my dads papers at the meeting, and seeing notes from a meeting on who to have as new elders. I remember one guy, with his name crossed out, with a note saying too young.

  I remember thinking that paper was much more interesting than the meeting.

  Is Disagreement REALLY Fanning A Flame?

  i won't specify a particular subject, but it seems that when someone throws mud at another, there are 2 options.

  either accept it or reject it.

  if you or others defend a position, especially after an attack, that's "fanning the flames".

  There really is no reason that we can't agree to disagree on subjects here. Other than that, lets have fun, and maybe learn something along the way.

  We can always learn from other peoples viewpoints.

  Do You Ever Miss It?

  i was in a hormonal state the last couple of days, feeling a little melancholy.....sometimes when i feel like this, i miss being a jw.

  don't get me wrong, i have not intention of ever going back.

  i've come to realize what i miss is the naivety, the black & white thinking, allowing the organization to pretty much guide my every thought.

  I miss some times as a kid, but not the meetings. I think it is easy to associate good times with what was going on in our lives at the time.

  Just part of the process of growing and getting older.

  I saw Britney from about 2 feet away, she is definately good looking. I have had the opportunity to be around quite a few celebrities, and yes, some do need the make up. But there are many, that are quite incredible looking.

  But all in all, they are people.
