It annoyed me any time someone had to make a showy display, such as a big prayer at a public place.

Are you allergic to something?
by JH insome people have to almost live in a bubble, because they are allergic to so many products.. probably there is a difference between being allergic, and just plain sensitive to certain products.
in any case, are there things you just have to stay away from?
i can't stand cinnamon it totally burns me up.

KM in 1974 praising people for selling all their stuff and pioneering?
by ithinkisee insomeone on this site mentioned they got a km off ebay that praised those that sold all their belongings and preached.. does anyone know which km that was?.
interesting, when going through the society's cd-rom i noticed that the drama for the district convention in 1975 was about noah's ark and was something along the lines of "there's still time left!
" (i'm paraphrasing).. -dm

My mom actually got talked to about her lack of faith by planting a garden that wouldn't be able to be harvested until after 1975.

I sure hope it lives up to the hype. For me the last two were disappointments.
This is the last one, so we need to go out with a bang!

Love & Marriage: Easier w/JW-Out or Non-Believer?
by prophecor inmany of us have spouses within & outside of the borg.
others are married to those who never shared our beliefs.
for those who are no longer practicing jw's, how are you navigating your relationships with your spouses or signifigant others?

My first wife grew up as a witness as well as myself. Horrible marriage, made more difficult by the unrealistic demands of the WTS.
My second wife, also grew up a witness. However, we met after we had both left the organization. For us, it has been perfect. We both remember what it was like to be in. My parents are actually out now, but hers are still very active participating in the pioneer work and the other is still an elder.
We can each understand what it was like, because we were there. I would imagine it being much more difficult trying to explain to a partner what it truely was like if they never were involved. Some things are just too difficult to explain.

I had trouble refusing to have a life.
There is so much that life has to offer, but as witnesses we had to either give up, or never enjoy 99% of it.

What was your favorite thing about service?
by Dustin ini used to love break time.
especially if it was afternoon service, and we stopped at taco bell.
i used to be damn good at eating tacos in the car without spilling anything.

Growing up a witness, I went out in service at least once a week, usually with my parents.
The whole ordeal was horrible, but when we would get ready to go home, that was by far the best.
My parents never took breaks. Hard core door to door rain or shine for at least 2 straight hours. It sucked.

Do you hate dressing up?
by Nosferatu ini can't stand wearing suits for anything.
i wore them so much while i was a jw that i prefer to never wear another one as long as i live.
hell, i wore jeans at my wedding!.

I still wear suits from time to time, which I don't mind too much, depending on the reason. But, I still catch myself referring to them as meeting clothes.

I only caught a few parts of it. It was cool to see Ron Howard there, even after all his success.
As far as Henry Winkler, my aunt knows him very well, and apparently he is very nice, and fun to be around. Not stuck up at all.

filthy kingdom halls
by what_Truth? ini don't know if this is wt policy, but our hall had a policy of assigning bookstudy groups to clean the hall.
the few times my family actually showed up (along with anyone else) that the hall was always in a disgusting state, especially the bathroom.
the woman's washroom had the most revolting smell you could ever imagine.
