I will not follow another dogmatic type religion, where they teach their's is the only right one. I have enjoyed several non-denominational churches, but still have not found the "one" that I would go to exclusively.

There was an older lady in our hall, that was just a sweetheart. Older, raised 5 kids, half on them on her own after the father passed away.
So sad, she worked so hard, and yet had nothing. All she had was the organization. It was her only time really out of the house, and would never have friends other than witnesses.
She was not happy, you could see it in her eyes. She passed away recently; was a sad life.

Unhappy Believers
by JH in.
did you know any brothers and sisters that attend(ed) meetings regularly, but deep inside seem(ed) to be very unhappy about being a witness?
i ask this question because many people are just blind followers, who don't dare question the leaders and follow like sheep.

I think most hated going, or still do. They go because of fear, or don't know any better.
I think few are those that are excited about being a witness.

I imagine that there will be much talk about getting more ready for baptism so that doesn't happen again.

Christian priorities and holidays
by jurs ineven when i was a jw i thought it odd that witnesses gave so much importance to holidays.
when i was studying, i was bogged down with how awful they were because they are pagan and how wrong it was to celebrate.
it seems to me like more attention was donated to the issue of holidays than what the meat of christianity is.

Many of what I consider to be "true" Christians, celebrate Christmas as others do, but they DO consider the basis of what Christmas originally was all about. Oh, they agree that Jesus was not born on that date, but they say that is not the point.
It just seems so much more innocent and pure than the WTS taught. These are well meaning people, and they respect the holiday for what it stands for, and enjoy it to the fullest.
I do think Jesus would appreciate that, regardless of petty details. Perhaps it is something that needs to be done once a year, to make us appreciate the little things in life, to bring joy and happiness. Oh sure, we can twist it around and say how horrible for the families that cannot afford it, etc. I have seen many times though, where a family may not exactly be able to afford a lot of toys and gifts, but the spirit is there, and they enjoy it to the fullest, maybe even more than many who use it only to buy stuff.

Embarrassing moments on stage
by freedom96 inas a kid growing up with an elder father, from time to time we would have parts on stage at the meeting or assembly.
my dad had a certain talk he must have delivered to a couple dozen different congregations, about families.
during the talk, he would have my sister and i cause a scene during the talk, in which we would ultimately run on stage argueing.

As a kid growing up with an elder father, from time to time we would have parts on stage at the meeting or assembly.
My dad had a certain talk he must have delivered to a couple dozen different congregations, about families. During the talk, he would have my sister and I cause a scene during the talk, in which we would ultimately run on stage argueing. We even had props like toys that would get broken, and then he would talk about how to solve the problem.
That wasn't as bad as having a part on the assembly, when you had a couple thousand people looking at you. I remember very well one time, my family and another one were discussing bibical issues on stage. A nice theocratic type of get together, each of us saying giving a comment. I was young, probably about 12, and my younger sister was on stage too. All of this had been planned for quite some time, so that we would all give the perfect performance. As everyone would give their thoughts, it was coming to me. Everyone had about 1 minute of a prepared answer/ comment. Well, my little sister does her comment, and then takes mine too. The microphone comes to me, and I have no answer at all. I said, "I was going to say what she said." and that was about it. Just felt very embarassing, with so many people watching. Never did hear the end of it for a few weeks.
But I am sure that doesn't come close to some good stories that are out there.
Any good embarrassing assembly parts? Or at the meetings?

How DO you do it?
by alfie inthis is not a question to get too personal, but how do so many of you find the time to post so much?
i have trouble finding time to read a few posts, let alone respond to or begin as many as so many of you folks do.

Self employed, so I can get away with it at work. Sometimes it is nice to have a little get away and see what is going on here.
Otherwise, once in a while when I come home and am relaxing.
